How to remove a washing machine motor pulley

This method would work for any heat fit pulley on a shaft. Given the heat applied and the heat of the bearing at the end I believe that no damage was done to the bearings and hence the motor.

How to remove the tachometer, is it left or right threaded?

Good video, I've removed the motor from my Bosch WFF2001GB/01 and found the DE bearing seized. I was just going to go with the pullers, but I think I'd better get a heat source lined up as well. If it goes ok, it'll save me £236 for a new motor.

Just to let you know that I wrecked another pullers trying it again, even with the pulley red hot. I usually get these machines for free or up to £20, so I would question ever buying a new motor for that price.

Would you mind mentioning tne washer brand / model - the shaft looks similar to my Fridgedaire Galley front load but cant quite tell by the mounting frame - thanks

No idea, it was a long time ago, maybe bosch.

Might be worth to carefully use an angle grinder or Dremel (shielding the motor from metal bits).
@bootsowen

But then you have broken the pulley.

Having watched this, I've decided to cut the pulley off with an angle grinder...……….

I'm thinking this too. Have you done this yet, if so how did you get on?
@nickrudd2568

Yeah im gonna do that, I need a flat keyway putting on the shaft (its going on a diy varispeed sanding disk) so i'll use the pulley to protect the rest of the shaft while im grinding the keyway in.

How do you remove a washing machine compressor? I undid the bolts but it’s connected to a long tube behind it.

What part do you mean when you say compressor

Were you replacing the bearings and if so what were the symptoms. Im trying to decide whether it's the drum or motor I'm hearing. No rumble from the drum but a high pitched squeal when on spin.
@bootsowen

Hi, you would rarely, if ever, have to remove the pulley from the motor. if it is a squeal it may be the belt slipping. Or the bearings or the motor bearings. If I was competent to work on machines I would do a test spin with the back cover (if you have one) removed and listen to it.

Really easy to determine whether its the drum or the pulley. Go to the back of the washing machine, remove the cover to access the drive belt, slip the belt off the motor or drum pulley, then spin the drum independently. If the drum spins silently, you know its the motor. If its the motor, it could be the bearings or the brushes that need replacing - or both.I had the same conundrum, but could diagnose whether it was drum or motor in a few mins. Hope that helps

@@bootsowen Did you manage to get the pulley back on afterwards? I've got some new bearings to replace and am trying to get the pulley off to get at the bearing. If i can get the pulley off, the bearing is easy, but i'm not sure about putting the pulley back on?
@rayner1guerra

I did that without heat.

@@bootsowen The tachometer sensor that has a magnet inside that is encapsulated in white plastic, which is on the motor shaft in the Kenmore Elite HT3e washing machine motors. How to remove them to replace the bearing? Does that white plastic with a magnet inside have a thread or is it put on with pressure?
@bootsowen

Pressure I think. but easy to break.

I tried to remove the pulley with bearing puller and heating with no success. The pulley was damaged. Later i do it again with other motor, but now I pulled with bearing behind the pulley. That way I could successfully remove the pulley.

Thank you for your hard work video, I have damaged electro motor ball bearing problem, and can't remove that shitty pulley after destroy 2 bearing puller.. Will 1800W electric heatgun do the same trick?
@bootsowen
@bootsowen 5 лет назад
I don’t think a heat gun would do it. It needs to be red hot to get it off. And a lot of force on the pullers. I tried again on another motor and broke my pullers. You can get little induction heaters on eBay that might do it.

it comes out very easily on a press even without heat...but needs to be a strong press

A normal ratchet-able bearing tool will also work. The puller in the video is for pulling tiny bearings.
