Thanks Blair. My videos are getting better. This one was around video 300? Some of my earlier videos not so good. Lol. It is totally doable if you have some tools and the patience. One thought though, I don’t remember if these have a built in regulator or if the computer handles the charging. Just FYI. Most new vehicles have a computer controlling charging amount produced by the alternator.

Thanks for your comment! The next thing to note is does Ford use the main computer to control the charging, or does the alternator have a built in regulator? It is possible it may not be charging but just replacing the alternator may not fix the problem.

Not only Ford, but all the manufactures now. The latest is the starter hidden under the intake manifold! (Toyota & others)

I had to remove my alternator to replace the block heater and this video definitely helped, as I got stumped while trying to remove it once unbolted. It wiggled around exactly like yours. I couldn't find any videos that actually showed the process of the alternator being removed. So thank you 😎 I got it out with a big screwdriver. For removing the alternator plug there's a little rectangular hole/slit on the bottom of the plug that I fit a very tiny flathead into, once the plastic was pressed down this released the plug very easily. Thanks again

Excellent video! The content is clearly and completely presented and provides the viewer with a true picture of what is involved to get the job done. Many of the details such as socket sizes, tool types and descriptions of how to actually remove connections, are invaluable and not commonly shown in other videos.

Thanks for the great review, Greg3268. It is a learning process just figuring out how to record some of these videos. Limited space for camera, lighting and room to work really make these hard to shoot, plus your usually in a panic to do the repairs. Nice to hear from you and stay safe.

I just used the ratchet strap technique and it worked like a charm. But here the designed way to loosen it. The captured Nut for the bottom bolt slides to take up the gap. Loosen the lower bolt three or four turns and tap it with a hammer. This will slide the nut and loosen the alternator Shazam. If you have already removed the bolt be sure to thread it in a few turns for you tap it in. Just take a good look at your replacement alternator

Went from under to take the belt off, pulley and alternator bolts. Still going but figured I’d do this while I had antifreeze drained since it might help to move hoses. Thanks for the video

The 3 wire connector has a clip. It's located on the inside towards the center of the alternator. There's a small square hole beside the 3 wires that you put a jewelers screwdriver in to release it. You can see it on your new alternator. Don't force the plug out, you might break the clip and then it could come loose in the future.

Thank you for sharing.. I am just now getting ready to start taking mine out of the truck.. I thought there was a 3rd bolt that I had to take off because the alternator was given me a battle.. so took time to look up a video and yours reminded me of my same troubles lol so thanks again for sharing

Hope you fix your issue. Not sure if these are controlled by the computer or if they have a built in regulator. Most of the newer vehicles regulate the charging now.

i have replaced ALOT of alternators however i couldn't get this one out.....glad to see aa video where someone has the same struggles as the common Joe....-thanks alot for this video!! i thought i had missed a bolt to talke out...just stuck like yoours was. Great job!

Thanks Paul. I am just the common Joe, except my name is Mark! Lol! I am thinking if truck up on a hoist, it might be accessible from underneath. Some of the early 2000 Chevy vans need upper intake removed to get alternator out!

Here’s the trick I did for removal. One you remove the both bolts thread the bottom one back in just enough so it doesn’t go back into the bracket. Hook a come along or good ratchet strap to the bolt and around the other end of the strap to the frame rail. Use a pry bar or pipe as a guide to allow the strap not to interfere with other components. A few small cranks and it will pull right out. Don’t wrap around the pully. You won’t get the leverage required. You’ll understand when you try it.

Tip for rubber hose. Twist it with pliers to break the seal and it will pull off easier.

Great video. I looked at others that leave details out or make it seem like a quick 20 minute fix. I appreciate you showing what it is really like having to work on the stuff. Although you don't seem to get as aggrevated when working on this stuff as I do. Lol

That is one reason I started posting these videos! Easier to try to do a repair if you can see all the good and bad. My newer videos have even better lighting. Getting a camera in these tight locations is also a issue.

Video was a good 2.5 years ago. Clip will have a locking tab you need to push and then should pull straight out while holding tab down.

I have good luck on plugs using soapy water with a good hard stream by rinsing out as much dirt as I can it does a couple things, gets rid of the dirt enables the latch to work correctly and lubes it up so it pull apart easier. I have not broken any since implementing this. And I do it on all plugs no matter how clean they look.

I had to go back and look at the video, & you are right, somehow that video clip of the final connector removal did not make the video! Off hand, I don't remember how it attaches as this was done over 2 years ago. It has to have some type of tab you squeeze that locks the connector in place. Maybe take you camera and try to record a small video as you move the camera around the clip. (Yep , not much room there) Play it back & you should be able to see how it clips into place. Also, are you a subscriber, Tony? Hope all goes well.

I changed my alternator out and replaced it with a new one . But my truck will not start , in fact it has no power the dash lights won’t even come on . Could you help ?

Check your powers and grounds. Battery is hooked up? Very odd that no dash lights. I guess that also means no horn. If it started before you changed the alternator, something has changed. Does the battery have power Elricon?

Did this alternator a couple years back. All I remember is it was not easy! I wonder if you can access it from the bottom? On a hoist, I am sure it is easier!

Easy way to remove alternator: Back bottom bolt out 3/4 of the way. Tap on the bolt with a hammer a few times. Take bolt all the way out. Falls right out.

@@KevinLauscher Yes, I agree from the bottom would be the best. (So would a hoist) These are meant for folks who have never worked on vehicles, or ones with limited knowledge! Plus, these are done kind live, that is I have never done one before so not sure how to approach it. Quick example as to how your explanation is overly simple, had someone complaining that I didn’t shown enough about how to disconnect the main connector. I thought I had shown enough. My newest videos are now all about 8-11 minutes tops.

The answer is no Bradley. I believe the 4.6 has the alternator in a different location and is a different style alternator with different mount etc. I don’t have a video on that replacement.

I wish Bailey's, but not a fan unfortunately. But timmies, yes! I think if up on a hoist, might be a lot easier, maybe. Those duck arms sometimes come in handy! There is a laid down creeper that hangs over the engine! Wish I had one of those! I should look into one. I see it is called a topside engine creeper.

Tap alternator at 3 o clock with a hammer to loosen it ! Belt goes last on water pump pulley!
