How to remove and Install a Walker mower Deck (In 2 min or Less)

Changing a deck is super easy and makes me proud of this machine every time I do it. I go through the steps to remove and install (reinstall) a walker mower deck twice once so you can see how quickly it can be done and the second time describing each step. Deck removal starts about the 2 min mark. Also you will have to forgive my dog Luke he wanted in the video around the 3 min mark.
Also I didn't mention in the video that one of the biggest reasons I reinstall deck at an angel is so that the first support arm stays in place while adjusting the second arm.
I hope you enjoy.

Thanks SO much for taking the time to share your experience with the rest of us here. My son and I struggled (and failed) to install my mowing deck for about a half hour yesterday, took a few hour break, watched your video, and did it in about 5 minutes after learning the few essential tips you showed us. Thanks again!

Same problem here and I am still having problems getting the shaft back on. Had the neighbor come over and he had it on in seconds. Whoop Whoop, all is well.

The first time I removed the deck from my Walker it took about 10 minutes. Installing it took about 15 or maybe even 20. It is so much faster and easier with your method, especially how you handle the PTO shaft! Thank you!

Great Job. You delivered a great instructional video with useful info, and you explained and demonstrated well. With your years of experience, your videos will be well received. I just bought a 2011 MTGHS with 23 hp. It is in relatively good condition, but I want videos like this to help do the tasks necessary to keep it maintained. You make the type of video that makes RU-vid great.

Thanks from Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 for your video, I recently purchased a walker and had the buyer remove the deck for transport and didn’t know how to put that spring back on, but now I know to lift the seat up and connect it, 👌 thanks again mate

Edwin Paulin Yeah, for a long time it had me stumped too, I actually pull the springs off when the deck is raised up in the maintenance position but the method use in the video is easily as good.

Thanks for the video. It made it easier for me to understand what the manual was discussing. To make it easier to install the PTO coupler onto the PTO, you can get a tool that will hold the the spring loaded Quick Disconnect Ring in the withdrawl position. Walker provides this tool with all new purchases. I had to ask the dealer for one because they forgot to make sure it was with the Owners Manual. The tool is called "Coupler Insatallation Tool". This holds the spring loaded collar back to make it simpler to put the coupler on the PTO. Once the coupler is in place, the tool is removed and allows the ball bearing ring to snap into the recessed groove on the PTO. You don't have to use the tool, but it helps hold it back as you line up the coupler to the PTO.

I wish you had more subs. What a great vid. I just bout a walker made in '95 that had it's motor fully redone for $2700, MF has a 62" deck and is a beast. The god damn bolt that holds the middle 2 blades on snapped my first 5 minutes mowing. Hopefully the guy didn't cross thread the bolt in but I've finally got the time to extract it today! Was gonna take the deck off and take it to my pops who's got all the tools I should need. Wish me luck with my new love, I've been using a weed eater on my 12 acres for the past 2 years. Needless to say the only shit that gets mowed is the around the house and trees lol shits as tall as me

It is a shame that I am just now learning about the pto shaft coming off that easy. I have always done it the hard way. Lining the deck into the pto shaft. Thanks for this tip. Can't wait to try it . Hopefully mine is not seized up at the ball bearing as you talked about.

PTO splined/catch neck to the deck... They get grass/dirt wedged into them, then superheat over time. It ain't coming off, if you have had the same deck on for weeks. Still doing any required lubrication on top of it, first rub the surfaces with the same nano-tech anti-seize lube that car mechanics use for wheel spacers etc... FWIW. It's always amazing how dirt can get into a closed join on a lawn tractor, no matter how closed off the joint seems.

Huge thanks for taking the time to make this video and sharing your knowledge - I think it's the most useful one I've watched on the Walker. It should be part of a 'new-owner' package! I'm a private owner but regularly swap between 48 and 52 " decks on my own and have always struggled - these few simple changes are going to make life a whole lot easier!

Great video, I have a ton of Walker how-to's as well on my channel, you explained this process very well. I would like to add to put a little grease on the PTO box shaft and the spring fitting for the driveshaft as I have seen the splines wear and get loose when they are dry and rusty. I have been using and repairing Walkers for 20 years now and for prob the first 4 I never pulled the deck tilt pins when I removed and installed the deck. Those flex joints with the pins in tilt position are so much easier to line up to the shafts coming off the mower.

I cannot begin tell you how helpful this was for me. I have a very bad low back and cannot spend more than a few seconds bent over at a time without causing myself a week's worth of pain. Very well explained with great clarity, great specifics, and no 20 minute intro with funky porn music in the background. Thanks a ton!!!

so glad I found this video. I've been wanting to learn more about this type of mower. We got an old one like this from my father in law and I love using it. I will probably be scared to try messing with it the first time but the second time I should be okay. I guess I'm gonna have to learn how to do stuff about it to keep it functional for a long time. Thanks so much. Stay safe and God Bless!

I cannot tell you enough how much I appreciate this video! Your thorough and detailed explanation of each step along with the tips, and the WHY behind each step made it absolutely invaluable to me. I'm a disabled/retired veteran and firefighter/paramedic. Once upon a time, things like this came easily to me. Now, with a very bad back, I have an extremely limited timeframe where I can be bent over. If I push it too much, I'll be laid up for a week, two weeks, maybe even a month. Seconds count. So thank you!

Road Rage208 It may look like that and it probably is but there is play in the system. I have taken my gear drives apart to repair them and even though I do set them to 90° there is play. Once it starts moving they set themselves back to 90° from each other.
