We have a 1 year old Cavachon who has had tear stains for some time and we tried many recommended products with no success. We chose to devise our own strategy using common sense and a few borrowed ideas. Our vet said it was mostly hereditary, so many dogs have no issues, Bo's stains started off a medium brown and would sometime become quite red and eventually black, right at the lower corner of his eyes. We chose to believe that established stains could only be removed with scissors. Luckily, Bo is a calm dog and seems to know we are fixing a problem that he can't with his paws. First, we trimmed out all of the stained hair. We were patient and allowed time for shorter hair to grow out a little so we could get below the stains, Be patient and steady trimming the darkest spots below the eye corners. This took about a week and the old stains were gone. The most important part is diligent daily treatment, if possible, and they make perfect sense. First, we cut a microfiber cloth to about 4x4 inches. We soaked the cloth with as hot of water as our hands could stand. we roll up the cloth so it is about 3/4" when flattened out. We would re wet the cloth and squeeze out just enough water so it doesn't drip. We add regular baking, about a half teaspoon that will be placed on the bridge of his muzzle, just below the eyelids. The heat does not bother him at all, in fact he leans into it. We hold until the towel has lost its heat (about 2 minutes) all the while massaging his tear ducts down. They are just below the corner of hie eyes. He enjoys this and I do it for a moment any time I pet him. The tears would then drain from the duct to his nose, as is natural. Then we would take the cooled towel, find any visible baking powder and use it to massage in the areas down the snout where stains may accumulate. No stains for over two weeks. We do it close to bedtime when he gets his teeth brushed, fur combed, nails filed and finally the compress. An absolute success, and it only takes 10-12 minutes. And distilled water made a noticeable difference in 2 days.

I wipe down my poodle's eyes with saline solution. Then I use a diluted peroxide solution below the eyes. Then I rub corn starch below the eyes. I bought a grooming arm for this specific purpose which is essential to keep her still- and I give treats during the treatment! Her eyes look great! It also gets her accustomed to the grooming arm when she goes for a professional groom.

Hi, you have an excellent video. I want to share with you a common item that you can place on the corner of your dogs eye lids. It is coconut oil, put a little bit on your finger tip and massage the tear ducts. Do this three times a day consistently. Also give your dog a little bit of coconut oil to eat. I give my dog a half teaspoon in morning and a half teaspoon in evening. He is 14.5 pounds of muscle. My dog is allergic to the carpet in the building, they spray it with chemicals. My dogs right eye leaks when it is wind or cold out. I bought sunglasses but he is not having it. 😊 Dogs are very similar to us and they get stressed out. When you to the States can you Facetime him or do something similar by just calling and saying his name with endearing words. Forget about what people say about medication, you do what is right for your dog. Many times natural things do not work especially if a dog or a person is in alot of pain. Or a dog or a person got hit by a car. The dog or person may need a small shot of morphine or something compatible to it.. People are so judgemental about others, these people need to stop being so insecure. May you always be blessed with inner contentment, love and prosperity. 😊😇😇😇🧡🧡🧡💛💛💛💚💚💚💖

Thank you so much! I know that people use coconut oil. Are use a tincture that is made with avocado oil and CBD as well as THC. I’ve seen other videos where people have used these types of oils I have in the American Eskimo and he is getting more comfortable with me around his eyes. I use a very light amount of that tincture and warm water Along with a wipe that is made for dogs. It seem to work pretty well. Can you tell me if I should be doing something different or rather? What is your feeling about using cannabis and or cannabis extracts on animals specifically dogs more specifically small dogs. Thank you very much , I really enjoyed this video. Very informative. ☮️💚
