I just use close curved mini scissors and cut all her tear stains off being really careful. It keeps the area really clean, looks really good, and I barely have to wipe her eyes. Cutting the hair doesn’t stop the dogs eyes from watering from allergies though. When you cut the hair too much around the eyes the fur doesn’t catch the tears and makes your dogs eyes water even more

Hi, I had researched that vets do not recommend using hydrogen peroxide for cleaning tear stains.. Is it really safe to use it on my dog, and is it really effective? No hate, just want to be safe and sure for my dogs.. Thank You Very Much!
@poodlemom
@poodlemom 3 года назад
Hi Aiko! Oh no worries thanks for your kind comment and sharing your thoughts. Vets do not recommend it because of the safety hazard, hence, the many reminders and disclaimers that I placed. But in my experience, it was the only thing that worked that none invasive and not a permanent or lifetime product to use on my dogs. Don't get me wrong, there are also medicines that work. Such as Angel Eyes, Eye Vita and more, but you have to keep using the products regularly to sustain the clean tearstain free eyes. Once you stop using them, the stains come back which is why I don't like using them. Not to mention the many safe and unsafe chemicals in the said supplements and of course the costs of these products. So, it really depends on you as the owner on which of the available solutions work best for you or you are willing to risk. In my case I chose the peroxide as the lesser evil of the many options I have. ^^ But no pressure, do what you think is best for you own pups! I hope this helps! Cheers!

Hi Poodle Mom. I have a maltese and don’t do any of this, i use makeup remover pads and dissolve 1/4 teaspoon of salt in hot water, wait till it’s warm, then wipe her eyes. Very safe, that’s why I only use this saline wash method. My dog also eats chicken, rice and vegetables, she has no tearstains, except when we came home from a 4 month holiday. It took about 5 days to get clean using the saline only. Try it, you have nothing to lose. Not sure if it works on every dog but it does on mine. Good luck.

I think the number one tip should be first and foremost you have to discover what was causing the tear stains? My dog is currently going through bad bad tear staining, it's really atrocious. I'm beside myself in grief with how bad it looks. But she still has times of tearing each day so all the tips and tricks in the world do not solve the problem. My vet thinks she could possibly have clogged tear ducts, so I have to take her to a doggie opthamologist in March. In the meantime I basically cry every single day at how bad it looks and how I can do absolutely nothing about it. So your dog did have tearing at some point, did it stop or is it still an active case? Your dogs are really adorable!

Thank you and I totally agree on less chemicals the better. Thank you too for respecting my own choices. As for Summer's eyes, I honestly think it's the effect of the lighting of my phone camera only. As I have stated many times in the video, I do not do it regularly, only when needed. Thanks for your insight. As a lawyer, I am very familiar with how disclaimers work. Also, no one is alleging that her dogs are not well cared for. My point is that if you are going to use chemicals on or around your dog's eyes, it's best to get the opinion of a professional. My concern is that subscribers may be unaware of the serious consequences of putting a potentially harsh chemical, like hydrogen peroxide, on or around their dogs' eyes, based purely on her recommendation, and without any real professional guidance. I would certainly feel terrible if your dog went blind from the use of hydrogen peroxide to clean his or her tear stains.
