How to remove and replace a PSP Go LCD screen

In this video I remove a damaged screen from my original PSP Go and replace it with a new one.
This is quite a lengthy procedure that requires plenty of patience.
You will require:
- a replacement PSP LCD screen (obviously)
- a small cross head (Phillips) screwdriver, I used size PH0
- and ideally some plastic pry tools (but not essential).
It is quite fiddly and if you have large hands this could be rage inducing.

Excellent video! Followed steps no problem to replace my screen. Did have to backtrack a bit because the power switch was not lined up, looking back you got lucky in placing it. Just make sure your switches are matching folks!

I actually replaced both my screen and battery to get it to work when my psp go qouldnt charged at all and it looks brand new. I bought another psp go 2 years ago for $110 and it came with a charger, case, sleeve, and memory card.

only downside, the speakers and the headphone jack not working :\ i cleaned them all and everything and still nothing, i cleared the cfw and once again nothing! :\ but hey probably the cheapest psp go out there lol

I'm sure you've checked but is the volume all the way up? Also you could check you haven't enabled bluetooth audio; and apparently there are also audio connectors in the charging port so you could check that the port is clean. Otherwise I'm not really sure what could be causing that, as both the headphone and speakers aren't working it's not like something wasn't reconnected.

Thanks for this, followed while I replaced my screen n it looks 100x better. I did break the little black clip that holds the shoulder buttons ribbon in place though, luckily i got it in place, working, then superglued it lmfao. So long as it works and holds Im happy enough with it though lol.

At 6:27 when you take the two silver and two black screws out. I could not, for the life of me, get the two silver screws out, I think I may be close to stripping them too. Any advice? I've had no other problems with the other screws either, just these two. So far, I've put all the parts and screws away and am planning to attempt it again in the near future.

Hi, sorry for the late reply, I used a PH0 cross head screwdriver. If the screws are stuck there are some tips that might help here www.wikihow.com/Remove-a-Stuck-Screw They are very small screws so I'm not sure how well those tips will work. I hope you manage to remove them :-)

Are the screws replaceable? If so, what kind of screws I should get? I picked up a used PSP Go for cheap and it's a bit worn out. The screen is scratched, the screws have some dirt and rust, and the screws for the right sliding mechanism are either damaged or lost.

Hi, they are standard screws but of varying lengths etc. I used a PH0 screwdriver to unscrew them but I'm afraid that's about all I know. If you google PSP Go screws there are some people selling sets of screws, but they're not very cheap. You may be better off buying a damaged one from eBay, and maybe get lucky on a 0.99 auction, good luck :-)

Great video, honestly. But you do not need to pop out the headphone jack and analog stick. Those two things can stay attached to the mainboard by the ribbon. There's no need to remove those two things. But thanks for making this video! Also, a pair of electronics tweezers works great for putting the blue ribbon back in. Good luck!

Hi, the screen I bought actually seemed better in quality to the original one; seemed brighter and sharper. Could be that I got lucky, or perhaps the manufacturing has improved?

The sticker that holds my screen in place was stuck on my old screen, now I have to put it al back together, order a sticker and take it all apart again. --' Did yours stick on your faceplate?

Hi, it's been a while so I can't remember completely, but I don't think there was any sticky left on mine either. I would guess that's just there to keep dust out; the process of screwing everything back together should hold it in place. You could probably get some double sided sticking tape and cut it into strips or something if you wanted to?

The wide black cable that connects to the screen would most likely be the one to check, it can be a bit tricky to snap into place, so you could try removing and reconnecting that ;-)

Hi, first I would check that it's not just loose - otherwise: I have seen some cables available, there is one here www.ebay.co.uk/itm/401181796143 I would think it's not too complicated to replace as long as you make a note of what was removed. If you get to about 9 minutes into my video you're pretty much at the point where you could swap the new cable.

Hi, I used size PH0 if that helps. There are some tips here www.wikihow.com/Remove-a-Stuck-Screw although they might not work so well as the screw is so small. I hope you managed to get it out.

Hi, I haven't had any problems charging my Go. But I do have a Fat model that had problems; I replaced the battery with a third party one and that did the job :-)

Hi, I would re-check the cable that connects to the screen, it may not have snapped into place (I had to press fairly hard and evenly across the connector). Otherwise try reconnecting your old screen (if you have it), to see if you're getting the same issue, and if that is the case it may not be the screen that's causing the issue, it could possibly be the cable. Or possibly it could be that the new screen you have is faulty. I'm afraid that's all I can guess, I hope it works out ok for you.

Hi, it's likely that if the ribbon cable is damaged you will need to get a replacement part; sadly I haven't seen this sold as a spare part, but you could try to buy a broken PSP Go on eBay and then just use the part from that?

Hi, the plastic flap should clip back in if it comes off. Otherwise you may be able to hold it in with some tape? :-/

Hi, thanks for your comment :-D I found replacing the screen a fairly easy process it just takes a long time :-) I bought my screen from eBay some time ago, unfortunately the seller no longer exists. I searched for a genuine (new) screen and assumed that's what I received. Unfortunately I don't really know about the ones on AliExpress. I didn't pay much for my screen (about £10), so I personally wouldn't expect to pay much more. I hope you find a good one ;-)

Hi, there are parts on eBay if you search for PSP analogue stick, I haven't tried any of them myself. I've seen caps and also the whole part; personally I'd probably buy the whole part, but only if it is genuine/official.

Hi, it could be the screen or the cable that links the screen that has a problem. And in some instances another hardware issue may cause this. Unfortunately I'm not really sure what it could be, but if you find a replacement screen that's cheap you could take a gamble and hopefully that may be the cause and fix it for you :-)

Hi, the replacement screen is the front of the PSP (no plastic in between), you should see it at around 9:20 in the video.

My screen is black still, I didn't use a new screen, i was cleaning the screen because the last who owned this screen spilled something under, but the screen was turning on. Now after cleaning it and putting back everything together, the screen stays black, and I only hear sounds.

Perhaps go through the steps again and check that the cable that connects to the LCD screen is completely connected; that is the only part of the process that would effect if the screen works or not (as all the other connections are related to controls etc.), check it is firmly connected. If you're still not getting any power to the screen I can only guess that perhaps while cleaning the screen something may have been damaged (especially if it wasn't completely dry when fitted), otherwise I'm afraid I can't think what could be causing your problem, good luck :-)

I only got some scratches on my Go. Is it possible to just replace the plastic on the front? :O

The front of the screen on the PSP Go is actually the screen part; you can see me remove it at 9:07 So unfortunately you would need to get a new screen part. You could possibly buff the scratches out with Displex but I'm not sure if it would work without damaging the plastic. I have used Displex on an original PSP and it worked ok (although requires a lot of patience).

If it's not turning on and there is no power light then the problem may not be with the screen, I would try taking it apart and checking all the cables are connected properly to be certain.

that does sounds cool, but unfortunately I don't really think I know the PSP Go that well enough to advise anyone; most of what I do know has been trial and error ;-) Perhaps one day I'll gain that knowledge :-)

Thanks dude i need this for repair my psp go, btw can i ask you, my psp go have sound but nothing show on the screen. The question is wheres the problem on lcd or flexible? Please reply my comment, thanks again btw 👍

Hi, if the screen is blank but sound is working it's most likely the cable, I would check the connections to the LCD screen, make sure they are firmly attached and the pins are undamaged, also check the cable itself for any damage. Otherwise it's possible the screen may need to be replaced, a new screen should also come with the cable required. It's always a gamble replacing a part so I hope it works out :-)

@@calebtombado1114 Hi, you can use this video at 8.52 and 9.43 to see the cable and connector. It's also possible there could be something else causing it, there's a video here that shows a loose chip causing the problem ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mKTsO-me1kM.html As I don't have this issue I unfortunately can't reproduce it in a video, your best bet is to Google: black screen with sound psp, to see some other causes/solutions. what are you replacing the screen? what happened to the stock screen? did you crack the screen by dropping it?

Hi, I originally bought the PSP from eBay; the screen was scratched and had some dead pixels. I still use the PSP (with the new screen) and it's working fine today :-)

Hi, I think it has similar fittings to some other connectors so maybe compare with those in the video, but based on the replacement parts I've seen, it's probably just a case of sliding out the old cable and sliding in the new; might need to wiggle left and right gently to remove.

Very very helpful video, vey well done. Can someone help me with a link to buy those tools, I've saw a few on ebay but they look a bit cheap on ones on the video looks like a very good quality. thanks in advance :)

Thank you :-) The screwdriver set was a "Draper PSS31(FFP) Precision Screwdriver Set" the pry tools were just cheap ones I ordered on eBay, as long as they're plastic they shouldn't do too much damage.
