Hey Eric, I loved the video. Quick question though - what is the size of the rear emblem? I don't think this was mentioned in the video, and there's a lot of controversy as to the "correct" size - 74mm, 76mm, 78mm...
I replaced mine without problems, too. BUT: there are a dozen things that can happen here. On the old logo, the two pegs might have become brittle and they may break off. Then you have to pull them out with a pair of pliers. The two nylon bushings can be reusable, but every new logo comes with two new bushings, I replaced them. What took me most of the time was to clean the lid under the logo. After decades, it can be quite a mess. But apart from that, it‘s a pleasure. :)
Wow! That was crazy easy. Thank you for the vid. And hear t thought I have to bring the vehicle into the shop. (laughing) talk about labor charge. Thank you again 🙏
Thanks for the video. Just one problem, you've probably been told this already but, a "Beemer Fan" is a BMW motorcycle fan. A "Bummer Fan" is a BMW car enthusiast, or "Bimmerphile" if you prefer. It's true, look it up. Again, thanks for your content!
1) Do NOT use a screw driver of any kind. Use a plastic body tool. This emblem shown was previously removed and an original emblem is stuck on much much harder. The procedure is correct, but the ease is bogus. I promise that a screwdriver is going to leave a nasty mark. 2) On removal the grommets in the trunk deck will come out some. They will need to be lightly hammered back with a small plastic mallet/hammer. If you don't the emblem will stick out a tiny bit and wobble because it won't seat all the way. I found all this out the hard way. Don't you.
Can’t wait to buy a new emblem and customize it, wanna do a black and orange color scheme and hopefully get some orange headlights in the future as well ! Great vid bro
Why didn’t you replace the grommets before installing the new emblem? My body shop friend also recommended double stick tape to make sure the emblem adheres properly.
Hey man!! Thank you, I'v replaced both on my E38. Hood and trunk. I was afraid of scratching the paint, but your tutorial saved me and my paint haha. Thanks!!
Video is a little fake, or say not as applicable, usually there is plenty of dirt below the old emblems, and they’re falling apart and really hard to remove. In that case it is helpful to remove the actual emblem first and the metal disc below after. Still good work here. 👍
That shit wasn't easy at all for my X3. That's because after prying it off, you have to then scrape off the glue/tape that's applied before you can put a new badge on. That took me over an hour. 🤔
Same for my 135i. The hood emblems seem to be standardized. The trunk emblems vary in size and attachment method. On my 13 year old 1 series, the emblem just fell off when the adhesive failed from time/heat. So like you I'm going to have to scrape off all of the adhesive and find a suitable replacement for the new badge. Very doable, but definitely not in 30 seconds... 😂
No way would I use a screwdriver! I used a wood spudging tool that I made. My 88 M3's emblem did not come out easily, the pins were stuck in the rubber grommets and even though I pried carefully the pins broke on the original emblem. One pin came out by turning and pulling with pliers. I had to drill and tap the other pin with a 4-40 tap to pull it out. The new one went in easily and I heated and re-used the blobs of black sticky stuff that help hold it in place. The new, real OEM BMW badge for $50, was not as nicely made as the original and much to my dismay, the new emblem no longer sits perfectly straight. I had bought a cheap eBay copy and threw away that bad looking one.
That really sucks. I just bought a cheap EBay one for my e38 and it doesn’t sit flat either it has a slight tilt to one side too. Hardly noticeable but still makes me mad. I ended up using a screwdriver and microfiber and ended up scratching my paint when prying. I’m absolutely livid.
Good video but bro u should’ve gotten an OEM emblem for the trunk. That’s an M5 right there man lol ! Silver back is fake emblem real ones have black on the back and a certain SKU #
