Who else was dumb like me and tried unscrewing it counter clockwise with the force of Kratos and is now struggling going the other way?

Arrrrg, ( pirate eeeyyee sound) i be in the same pickle this gentlment seems to have found himself in. Tis the sea that decides which way she turns and wheather or not she be gett'n on or gettn' off . Tis the sea indeed... (puts tobacco pipe back into mouth and fades in the shadows once again...(please read in a pirates voice... like a pirate in the corner of a sailers bar that's talking about an old sea monster legend) (thank u)( trust me you will hear the voice I'm talking about)

I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use ru-vid.comUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

Yes, you were right about showing us how you did it before posting this video. I am a woman and I need to see from start to finish of how to remove, change, wind the string etc. on a weeder.

This video tutorial was definitely a big help for me. Often times there is something simple, that corresponds to another something simple, that I am overlooking. In this instance, it was the tool punch (I used a smaller, Phillips head screwdriver) to hold the trimmer head in place and remove the replacement spool clockwise (not counter clockwise). Those two simple, yet important, instructions made all the difference. Works like new. Thank you for sharing!

Let me tell ya something about Echo trimmers. They are THE very best trimmers out there. I've had mine since 1999, and to this very day in 2018, it's still going strong with no problems whatsoever. With an occasional screen cleaning which all trimmers have to have done to them in the exhaust, which gets clogged up with carbon deposits which will accumulate on the screen, and of course, replacing the gas filter, this machine still runs excellent since the day if was purchased since 1999.

Thanks for the video. Have had the same one for 7 years and living with a struggling current spindle and had no idea how to change. You would think Echo would put even a basic instruction piece inside the replacement unit. Can't wait to give it a try!

My echo trimmer will not budge. I locked it with a screwdriver. Update: I saw another video where a guy had a similar problem and said he might use his channel lock pliers to loosen it, but was able to to eventually get it off. Well I have vice grips that will lock onto it and with some FORCE was ale to break it's hold and remove the old spool. New spool went on fine. Thanks for the video.

Hey Jeff. Have you any knowledge of the nylon spring nut tension/how far turned once in place? ~ Nylon nut with offset squares at one end..reverse thread. All the way down doesn't leave any spring to function I feel..shy of that the nylon nut(steel threads) is barely on the threaded shaft but nylon collar job moves well on the spring... ...I was having trouble and second guessed myself I wound the line wrong direction, so I did it opposite. Nope, methinks I just wound it crappy and was failing..line vanishing. After the Second guess and wound the other direction..it bound up and orange noodles popped out and I noticed the nut came unscrewed. ~ I found the online manual and mentions nothing of the spring nut...say spring replacement steps. ~~ No worries if not. So don't waste time replying out of decorum. ~ As trade (can't see inside your garage what liked) for putting up with reading my sentence frags...in your travels looking for old mowers to fix up..if ya run across an old Dietz lantern with a ruby red glass globe(not painted glass) grab it no matter what condition the lamp is in. Ruby globe alone can easily fetch fity bucks if not more. More pleasure just keeping it and getting parts for an old crap lamp. That after market is alive and well. tips me hat ~

OK.. so maybe when YOU were a kid, you learned the secret to changing an Echo Trimmer Head. I must've played hookie that day... Anyway, all you need to know is punch (or drill bit) inserted thru u shaped cutout to "lock" it in place. Turn right (or clockwise), it will prob come off easier than the lid to your drink container. Screw the new one on. It took me longer to watch the video, much longer to find a punch-thingie, than it did to take the old one off and put the new one on! Thank you, Jeff!

I have a 2011 SRM-225. I've searched avery video available and they all say to spin to the right or clockwise. All this does when I insert the tool to lock it, is unfeed the line...basically just clicks with no grip. Please advise what I am doing wroung as counter-clockwide just tightens it more.

Hi Jeff, when you get one of these trimmer heads off, and you want to remove that nut that holds the adapter on, what on earth do you grab hold of to give resistance? I have an Efco trimmer, and have to put an adapter on for the new Efco head I've bought, but getting that nut off is proving very hard. Thanks if you can help.

I have a general question regarding 2 cycle oil. My edge trimmer runs on a 50:1 oil gas mix. When I bought my edger it came with reddish colored oil (as opposed to the blue oil). Is there any difference in the oils? Are they interchangeable so long as I keep the 50:1 mix ratio consistent? And lastly is there any risk of short term or long term damage if I go from the reddish oil to the blue oil?
