I have been using noise reduction wrong this whole time! You genuinely helped me out, I watched several videos on Audacity trying to get that nice crisp sound and explained so simply and easily for me to follow - thank you so much!
I like to see what frequency the noise is. Highlight the area, click on Analyze, and click on plot spectrum. If all the noise is below 100 HZ, I use EQ and use the high pass filter to cut it out. if you just have 1 frequency buzzing you can cut that frequency out with the "notch filter" if you do use the noise reduction you can start out low such as 6 or 9 dB, and if it is not enough you can click on effect and repeat last effect on the top, or repeat it by clicking on clicking on "Control + R" Also to really see noise use the "Spectrogram" view. To use the spectrogram view you will see a down arrow on the left side of your track. Cick on the down arrow and you will see options. You can click on the spectrogram or multi-view to use the spectrogram.
@@Buzzsprout Next time came right away. The day I posted my "I wish I'd seen this before", I did a podcast with someone with barking dogs and a spouse talking in the background on my interviewee's end. Thanks again!
You are awesome..!!! Crisp and Short video with full of meaningful info. Best thing in video is, you explained each step why we are doing that. God Bless You.
Great video! Super helpful, to the point! It's exactly what I was looking for when I googled "how to remove background noise in audacity" perfect, thanks!
Hey, thanks a lot for this! Just what I was looking for... Now I'm trying to figure out what exactly those other two settings mean or do, the Sensitivity and Frequency Smoothing Band. I'don't think I understand the explanations in the Audacity manual ... but I'd be keen to understand the settings better. And also: which one would I need to tweak to prevent the results from getting a tin-like sound?
It's really tough to pull off since your computer will struggle to know which is which. This article walks through some of the options: www.thepodcasthost.com/equipment/microphones/record-with-2-usb-microphones/
I was hoping someone would have an Audacity tut lol I have some recordings on my android from another room, but theres a super loud fan that comes on at the worst time.. some tuts were having you let the PC/program detect it, that simply wont do. Audacity is such a great little program though!! I've made some real fun sound effects & mashed some music with the filters & tools, its kinda criminal how free it is 😂🤫
Hi I'm trying to find tips for reducing sibilance in realtime on Audacity- My Husband does a podcast and uses Audacity, but there seems to be ALOT of background noise. Is there away to rid of majority of this before recording/in real?
The more you can reduce it in your recordings the better. Check out our blog post on acoustic treatment to get some ideas: www.buzzsprout.com/blog/sound-treatment-for-podcasters
The "Repeat Noise Reduction" function can be very helpful for further reducing persistent background noise. However, it's important to use it sparingly as overuse can distort your audio. Always trust your ears and adjust according to your specific needs. Keep podcasting!
I am happy to learn this tip. Unfortunately, the music audio I am working on has been clipped such that there are no seconds of background only (cars and trucks driving by). Is there anything else that I can do to improve the sound quality?

Thanks for the help! I also get noise in between my sentences. It's kind of like an echo and the only way I can get rid of it is to cut and paste a quite part which takes forever and can sometimes leave clicking noise. Takes forever to edit a chapter this way and can get frustrating. Could this be caused from my mic. I use a Yetti in my closet. Thanks so much all of your help!
Evert time I do noise reduction in Audacity afterwards my voice sounds like if I were talking into a empty bottle. Please, any suggestions? I will deeply appreciate it.
How do you remove a background noise on top of a playing music? For example, a car honking while the music is playing, hence they overlapping each other.
Hi, my recording; the location is a bar.. music &crowd.. i need to shazam the track.. but it is lots of crowd noise. i have tried your method but it also volume down music .. help pls
Unfortunately there's only so much you can do in your situation. Noise reduction will only lower the crowd noise, not eliminate it entirely. So adjust the settings to where you notice a bit of noise reduction without it affecting the music volume and that is the best case scenario
Hi Nyla, here is a full tutorial on How to Edit a Podcast in GarageBand. Hope it helps. 😊 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mATGO5ayrzc.html
AWESOME VIDEO AND CONTENT! What microphone are you using? What camera is shooting this content and what SPECIFIC LENS are you using? THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!
@@Buzzsprout Thanks bunches for the response. I forgot to ask. What lighting are you using here? BTW... Love using your platform for my podcast. #thanksinadvance
You'll want to export your audio as an MP3 file (not MP4, which is for video). Here's a tutorial we did on exporting audio from Audacity that should help - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P5WdjYHwxMQ.html
"Residue" is basically the audio content that is being removed. If you select this and preview - you should hear just the noise, plus whatever minor elements of the main audio are being inadvertently filtered out along with the noise. In fact, you can play with the settings while previewing the residue - when the residue is as close to being only noise as you can get it, that's probably the optimum setting for noise reduction. If you hear a lot of the "main" audio in the residue, your settings are too aggressive and you will distort the audio content that you are trying to preserve.
You want noise to remove, how about the sound files I have from AM radio open reel tape from when I was an on air dj Talk about noise .Thanks for the video my friend
Is any way to remove the claps from a live concert where the concert is taking place on specific period (clap and background present in the audio clip in the same time)
Great question! Yes, Audacity can effectively remove background noise for a variety of sounds, including talking, hollering, TV blasting, and loud crashing or wall pounding. However, please note that these types of noises are variable and not constant, which makes them more challenging to remove. It’s always best to try and record in a quiet environment to minimize the amount of background noise. I hope that helps! 🙂
@@Buzzsprout I asked this question as the ideal solution isn't necessarily an option. If it takes a massive effort to get clean audio, in effect there is no point in recording. But thanks.
