You're the man Marty! I couldn't figure out how to get the alternator out after the four bolts were removed. I could wiggle it back and forth but it would hit the intake manifold. By placing a wedge between the manifold and the head like you showed, I was able to wiggle the alternator out.
Thanks for the video. I took all your exact steps and it was easy enough. My 2008 535i has twin turbos so there are two additional vacuum lines running off the squeeze/quick connect up top, and I ended up slicing one of them which caused an engine fault / reduced power errors when I throttled. Luckily it cut right where it attaches and there was enough slack to redo it. However, I was not able to get the bottom quick connect off no matter how hard I tried. Might be a slightly different connector with turbos? Made it a pain to slide the hose back on.
Thorough video, great work! I'm about to do the same on a '04 530D but it does'nt loook quite like this down there unfortunately. Will search for another video. Just wanted to thank you for helping people with tools save some cash :)
Is the procedure ur using to do this alternator the same for the 2008 BMW 535xi I believe the only difference is the xi is all wheel drive but I know sometimes that can change everything
Hi @@TellyGarcia-w6o i’m not gonna lie to you, brother. I’m not sure. Just study the engine bay and compare it to the one on the video. It might be the same sorry but thank you for watching. I really appreciate you. I hope it helps you.
Hello Boosie Parson yes water can and will damage your alternator short it out . But like everything else you might get lucking I’ve had water fall on mine a few times but luckily it still working thank god . Thanks for watching I appreciate you
Rustam Ayvazov sorry I didn't have that problem. but I had a few guys ask me the same question. one of them said to use a pry bar and have a friend help you and pry on some bracket not sure where ? it's on the comments below
Excellent video brother really appreciate it, quick question u mean to tell me that you dont have to take the engine oil filter housing off to get to the alternator?? Thank u
@@yasharahlaqadash6694 Hello no you don’t have to replace the battery . I’ve don’t a lot of alternators on bmw and never have had any problems. Thanks brother appreciate you
HI Michael sorry to hear that but the new one went right in. i did have some trouble taking it out but not much????? if i have any ideas ill let you know.
Marty, great video. Do you have to replace the intake gasket before you put the intake back on? What is the torque spec. for the bolt and nuts? I can see there's a lot of work ahead of me. Thank you
k tom you can use the same gasket I did mine 3 yrs ago and still doing good. I didn't torque anything I go by feel I'm used of it .but there are certain job I do torque
k tom I had two other guys tell me they couldn't get the new alternator back in and when I did another one it happened to me too ??? Luckily I had another alternator and that one went right in.
Did you have issues reinstalling the new alternator? I found mine is wedging between the oil filter housing and the lower mount bracket. I know it came out without help, but going back in the new one is not fitting. It is the right model and such. Not sure why I am having fit issues.
Ted Bacon I've had two other guys tell me the same .try another one that's what one guy said he did and it went right in ??? he said it looked the same but one went right in and the other one he couldn't get it in ??? I didn't have any issue
I think I'm going to mask off the vents and do some mechanical adjustments on the top mount holes to crest clearance. I don't have the luxury of getting another one to try. It's either remove the housing or modify the mount holes for clearance with the oil filter housing. I can't see a pry bar working either.
Ted Bacon any update? This SOB has given me hell when trying yo reinstall. Cant get the new one in to save my life... Ive turned, wiggled it, applied force and nothing... Did you end up modifying or taking the oil filter housing off? Getting rid of this car as soon as its up and running.
Hi Marty, I have a 2008 BMW 535i and this video it great, I am having a problem install the alternator it just won't fit. I had to pry it out when i removed it but now I can't figure anyway to put it back in. the oil filter,a/c,coolant is in the way . any ideas?
Hi Lin pin sorry not sure my guess $700.00 to $1,000 ? What you can do is call your dealer and ask them or a mechanic shop and find out for sure . Thanks for watching I appreciate you
Cleveland Collier it's been a while I don't exactly remember the setup but you have to pull the intake manifold up to get the alternator out and all that plastic wouldn't let you pull it up far enough to get the alternator out
I haven't needed a swivel. You'll need T60 for tensioner for the belt. E10/E12 racheting wrench if you want to take off oil filter housing. 11mm for intake manifold bolts. screwdrivers. 13mm for cabin filter area. I think my alternator bolts were 13mm. 10mm to disconnect the battery. a pry bar. and some extensions. If you decide to remove the 2 T30s holding in the plastic pipe going across the front of your motor, you can to give you some more room for the access to the tensioner and you'll need a serpentine belt breaker bar for that. They're extra skinny. E10 and E12 sockets also. Should be it. I overestimated the number of tools needed and brought my entire box back home from work.
Marty09933 when they first changed the alternator the car started with a jump but died right after, so I had no way to charge the battery, so I went and bought a brand new battery, now the car is giving all kinds of codes and won't start at all
should be the same as you took it off pull on the tensioner . are you having a hard time putting it back on ? ive got another video but have not uploaded it yet that show a different way to put and take off the belt.if its too tight i put a socket on the crank shaft bolt in front of the motor and turn the crank shaft by hand and at the same time push the belt on the pulley as you turn the crank shaft it will slowly start to climb back on the pulley as you turn the crank shaft

Christopher Ayoub I didn't have to use a beaker bar mine went right in but the other guys had a hard time one of them said he used a crow bar I don't know what size.
