Absolute props to you man, this will help sooo many people all around the world 🤙 Alot of work which you didn't really have to do for everyone, your an awesome dude!
Thank you thank you thank you! I’ve been wanting to do mine myself and have been scared cause there’s no videos on it. What perfect timing!! Can’t waiting for the rebuild vid so I can get started.
Really appreciate this vid. As an owner of a 20+ year old Impreza, I'm aware that more and more things are starting to need attention. Videos like this, that are systematic and properly narrated/explained go a long way to reduce the level of intimidation I feel when I pop the hood lol. Thank you!
I'm very glad you put this video out. My motor recently spun a bearing. So I want to do the rebuild myself lol. Most likely will or just get an IAG bottom end and go from there
For 30:41, id like to point out only 04 Forester XTs also have the same clutch setup as in the video. 05 and newer have push styles like the WRX. Pull style clutch ftw!
Thanks to you and videos like this I have learned so much about my car, and become confident enough to take on a transmission swap. Thank you for everything, and I hope you keep making these ridiculous walkthroughs once in a while.
Can you tell how awesome this video is. It's very timely giving I'm rebuilding a 2012 hatch. You're the best Tanner! Keep up everything you're doing.🔥🔥🔥🔥
Its worth noting that I have a GR and replaced my block with an RA and its not compatible with the secondary air pump. It was fine for me because live in the wild west so there are zero rules on that stuff but if you live in California or something you might be hosed if you don't use a regular 257 block for your car
Secondary air pump mounts up to the Heads, the shortblock doesn't make any difference. If there are no ports for the air pump then you may have the wrong heads on the car
Love the content definetly cant wait for the next vid very informative I have a VB but honestly contemplating in also getting a hawkeye or bugeye project.
Question 🙋🏼♂️, you had a pop up on the screen about the wrx not having the clutch fork slide pin. But my wrx does have that? Does that mean it’s a aftermarket or different oem style transmission? I only know that because the clutch I did on it. But I am now pulling the motor and just watching your video to re fresh my memory lol
Would you make a video on what to do , if you suspect you got water inside your intake while going through deep water , like the procedure on what to do to make sure you dont damage your engine furthermore....
@@Smeedia it wasnt like deep water , in my situation , i dont have any liner on my tires or in the bottom part , soo if i run through like rain water , water get up easily , and a couple of weeks ago , i changed lanes while driving and i didnt notice half of the street on my right side where the intake is , had like a bunch of water stuck , and all my right side got into it , and my car lost power and them shut off.
Nice video! What do you recommend is salvageable after something like a spun bearing oil fed wise? Assuming you have to get the heads inspected and turbo rebuilt etc?
Thanks for doing this! Really helpful to understand it all and make it feel less intimidating. That table of parts was 10k? If I have an old ej that I just want to get working as cheaply as possible with oem parts, is it possible to narrow down what parts are needed? Could I reuse a bit more to help keep it more of a budget rebuild?
@@Smeedia oof, I think my 2011 is only worth like 7k for the whole car lmao. Always figured I could rebuild it if it blew but can’t justify putting more into the engine than the whole car is worth. Unless I can get that down by reusing more parts. Otherwise guess I’m selling it if it blows lol. Still gonna watch the whole video anyways because it’s fun to watch. Thanks Tanner!
You used to the crank bolt to hold the company23 tool for the driver side cam bolts. Why didn’t you use it for the passenger side? I’m trying to do the same thing
I’m going back and forth between getting an RA block for my OBXT or just refreshing the ej25 block in it. I just bought it at 250k miles. What’s your recommendation? I’m not looking to make a ton of power. I really rather have reliability although I know the mod bug will bite. I have an Audi that will get the all-out treatment though so i definitely don’t plan on going all out on this. 400hp max if I choose RA.
Where did you get the oem harness? I've had a dealer send me the wrong harness for my 07 and won't take it back... Looking to avoid that problem in the first place. Thanks!
@@Smeedia just being able to see some step by step engine removal is HUGE. I am below amateur level. So I need to start with some super basics. Plus I'm editing my subiefest video so now I have something to listen to. 🎵 to my 👂
Just took mine off the jacks and me and my brilliant mind drained my alternator wouldn’t turn over and I freaked out. Jumped it threw every light on it when I jumped it, I mean every light! Reset the ECU. Than everything was fine🤦🏻♂️
Don’t buy a. Subaru. .buy a better car thats peace of shiit. Of car. Save your money buy a. Better car. A tip from. A.friend That’s if you like fix motors. Car shit
@@davidbarber2010 tell me you've never built race cars without telling me you've never built race cars. Anytime you do power mods outside of factory spec on any car you lose reliability until you beef up all supporting components. I managed a open class Volvo 740 rally car; the motor has more money than the car, the cage, suspension, and the dog box combined.
gotta let you know youre the main reason why im not paying someone 2k to replace my clutch, these videos are the most detailed and in depth, its hard not to have the upmost confidence in working on my subie. truly is so easy to follow
HUGE PROPS to you! the time and effort put into this video is INSANE!! You deserve every second of watch time for this video. Keeping this in my list of important videos to use once i work on my own EJ255!
This has been so helpful. Thank you! Is the follow-up video out yet? I’m about to put my new motor back in and just looking for gotchas and all your great tips. 😊
@@Smeedia hey! Thanks mate! By coincidence, I just finished my install tonight!!! 😂 but I decided to sleep on it before I start it with fuel connected, so I’ll watch your upload first for sure!!! So funny.
As someone whos been wanting to rebuild my FXT once i get the funds for all the parts, i really appreciate having such an in depth video ill be able to reference from a source i trust. Keep up the great content!
I'm trying to be super cheap with my EJ20, can I reuse my head gaskets? Rod started knocking but I caught it as soon as it got bad. Like doesn't knock at idle
Hey Smeedia, love the video it's gonna help me soooooo much! I was wondering could you also do a video similar to this for manual swapping a 4EAT with a 6 speed STI? I know you made some videos about manual swapping but the're no where near as in depth as this video so if you could I would greatly appreciate it! Keep up the amazing content
Watched the entire thing and I can say this seems so easy to you now, the most that I’ve done about a year ago before starting my engine teardown was a timechain cover. I can say this was a big undertaking to rebuild an engine from scratch . My STI is very rusted so I broke many fasteners, it was a pain. I estimate I worked on my car about 18hrs a week for a year almost so almost 1,000hrs!!! Today is the third day I drive it and le me say this is the smoothest STI I’ve ever driven, no CEL fully stock with all emission control, the rpm is at a solid standstill at idle. After all this work this is so rewarding and I love it. Thank you for the help friend!! Jon
DUDE my new Bible !!!! thanks so much .my son a i got a 06 sti because of you 430 whp .wish you could go over it before we drive it.... lots of work done to it i would like to verify from ya ...have a good day bro we love the videos .....
i have no plans to ever do this to a subaru, but i thoroughly enjoy these types of vids. between you and devin doing build video's like this, it's really fun to watch.
I'm telling you man, my idea I had a while ago of releasing rough cuts of extended video format would have a crowd of people interested. Make those members-only videos to avoid algorithmic BS. Think about it this way too: you can drive more memberships by making those videos a membership feature. And anyone who has YT Premium (like myself) gives you good revenue per minute watched cuz that's how premium pays. Fairly confident it would make you some extra $
@Smeedia I mean for this format yeah. But for some of your more vlog style that are not meant to be nearly informative. Rough cuts for members wouldn't be withholding any extra information, just more filler content for members
A great video brother. This will help alot of people. I love your videos. You know me Mr stock for life on my 2020 STI. I can't wait to see this build. World Rally blue all day baby. Oh yeahhhh. 👍 stay safe.
This video and your how to build EJ20/25 video is how I was able to rebuild me EJ25. I got it tuned after the rebuild and it is making 440 HP. Thanks bud! Couldn't have done it without you!!
Finally got my first WRX a month ago. I have been trying to soak up as much information as I could since. This video is just what I was looking for! Thanks brother!
Do you have any suggestions on what parts not to use from an old engine? I believe my 15 STI has spun a rod bearing and I am going to tackle the repair. I did not plan on sending the block to a machine shop and just do a through cleaning. The engine only has about 50k from a warranty swap. So my plan was a new crank and bearings while check/plastic gauge the rod that spun. I do not plan to reuse the oil cooler and I am going to install a bigger oil pan and pickup. Any other suggestions or do's or dont's?
man it would be so nice to find a list of all of these parts, with numbers and qty. or something even close. Heck even a common bolt size/thread chart. Love the vids!
In process of dropping a new long block in my 17 STi. I heard u mention the avcs solenoids and not reuse them. I'm fairly certain it spun a bearing and had fine metal all throughout the oil. Should I plan to buy all new OCV assemblies? Or can they be cleaned? I already ordered new gears.
Another good video, but NO, NO, NO! I'm NOT going to pull my engine again for at least another 2 years, when I go to swap the clutch and add more power! Sheesh! Just finished putting mine together, it's smogged, and tags are up to date again! Been years at this point, STI longblock swap, 6 speed, dccd, STI rack, 4 pot/2pot, etc. Finally, I'm putting on the fun parts, finishing break in and tune! Of course, I'm kinda traumatized at this point, every time I drive it I'm dreading a check engine light. lol If it's not covered in this, don't forget to remove the 02 sensor, even if it's not hooked up. Nothing like destroying a band new $200 part cuz your buddy was on that side of the car and didn't notice it smashing into the frame. Also, if doing an STI swap from an ej205, don't forget to seal the cam caps! Nothing like a good start up where you find an oil leak and have to pull the motor, and strip it apart again. Ask me how I know. haha
