I have dark facial hair and it makes me feel EXTREMELY gross, unconfident and just straight up horrible. I recently got my whole face waxed at a salon. And I couldn't have feel any better after it. Yes, it hurt and it felt as if my face was on fire but it was SOOOO worth it! My skin seemed to appear so much more cleaner, clearer and healthy. And I also felt so much more confident after it. Definitely recommend it. I do have sensitive skin and my face was red afterwards but that to me as completely normal. But, obviously make sure you get a patch test done to ensure you don't have an allergic reaction to the wax💕.
I have a friend with black facial hair, she hates it and feels very self-conscious about it, she's getting laser hair removal. I had for years never even realized she had it until she told me. Sometimes we are our worst enemies.
I have watched a few of your old videos recently and just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate how you are always so honest and down to earth! It's refreshing to hear someone just be themselves and not be cookie cutter!! xx-- Rachel
Dear Shannon, I just want to firstly say that I love you so so much! I am a mom of three boys and you are literally my only reason for watching RU-vid. You've helped me get through some really bad days over the last few months. I have recently had a baby boy who I love to death but it can be overwhelming, with the lack of sleep and struggling to get back in shape. Your videos here and your blog channel have kept me so calmed and comforted. I feel like you're my friend. All your advice has made me feel so comfortable in my new body after my third child and made me HAPPY. I workout and eat healthier watching you! You are so inspiring to me. My 4 month old even smiles at the screen seeing you, Hamish, Zeus and Lewis. I feel like over the past few months you've become apart of my family. Thank you for uploading even at a impossibility difficult time for you. It makes me respect you so much more as a human. I hope that all your worries leave you life soon. I love you dearly. Xo
Honestly this video has made me feel so much better about myself. As someone with PCOS, my self esteem is quite low because of the hair that grows in places that society see's as disgusting/wrong for women to have. Facial hair is something that gets me down the most because it makes me feel so "un-womanly" if that makes sense. This video and all of the comments has shown me that I'm not the only person who deals with this and that it's completely normal. I know facial hair is normal anyway but it's just something I thought not a lot of women had to deal with. x
really happy at your little disclaimer about hair removal being personal preference, and how we shouldn't feel pressured to do things about body hair that we don't want to do c: just gotta say that i really appreciate it!
I have to say that epilating is the best facial hair removal process i have ever tried. I have PCOS, and i used to have dark, thick hairs on my chin, cheeks, upperlips, etc... I started epilating once every 2 weeks, and the hairs on my face have significantly reduced! I only have to epilate once a month now :)
You are one of the most down to earth beauty vloggers out there and I think that's part of the reason I've been such a faithful long time subscriber. Keep being you, Shan.
Thought I would share my hair reconsider. I use an epilator on my arms and the lower setting on my face. I would recommend that you cleanser the skin before and after and follow up with a moisturise. I also am in the process of getting laser done to my underarms,Brazilian, legs and snail trail and I can't recommend it enough! I'm up to my 7th treatment and I have no hair growing back on my Braz and underarm. My legs are finer so need more sessions. If you struggle with hair I would suggest you look into laser :)) I also am going to laser my face in the future 😋 xx loved this video
She already mentioned laser didn't work for her as she has finer blonde hair on her face. It wasn't successful at all. I understood, as I imagine it would likely get better results facially with someone who has darker hairs / regrowth.
Laura Williams yep, laser hair removal does not work on baby blonde hair. The most success is on the thicker, darker hair and the starker the contrast between skin tone and hair color the better it works. IE fair skin and dark hair.
I love the fact that ur so real. and the fact that ur not making anyone feel as they have to remove any hair on their body. Sometimes these vidos can seem like hair is such a horrible thing but ur just so real and raw.
Thank you so much for mentioning that no one should feel pressured to do this! Because it is so true and doesn't matter if you do it or not! ILYSM SHAN!
I have it too luckily my peach fuzz isn't dark EXCEPT like a random one or two in the mustache area and then of course the one long black hair I randomly find growing out if my effing chin lmfaoo I'm super fair too I pluck the dark ones out asap
Guys what shall I do, I have really thick black leg hairs, even when I shave they look hairy because of the black dots and they grow back within a day. What should I do?
I have the black dots too. It's not really a big deal because most people with dark hair have that. If it really bothers you then you can always wear tights or leg makeup/fake tan.
this is so helpful. Shannon is brave for talking about this. just last week I damaged the skin around my mouth trying to remove my "girl-stache" because I didn't know what I was doing.
Shaving the face is called dermaplaning and estheticians usually use a surgical scalpel. But you can do it with an eyebrow razor! Just make sure to moisturize well. Don't use a body razor on your face! (Im a licensed esthetician who has tried all of those methods)
LOVE this video!! Totally have used all those methods except the epilator! Going to get one! Also, can we just mention how relatable you are to your audience. Great Job Shannon!
Every time I used hair facial cream, the skin underneath would be SOOO much lighter! It was so obvious and my makeup wouldn't sit right on top and you're right it would remove TOO many hairs! You could see where there were no hairs whatsoever and where the itty bitty hairs were! Definitely going to try the epilator!!!
i tried all methods of hair removal possible (i have sensitive skin) cream hair removal CHEMICALLY BURNED MY SKIN :( Sugaring made my skin so dry and broke it out. wax broke it out. threading broke it out badly.(also so painful) shaving is probably the only thing that didnt irritate my skin! hope this helps someone w/ sensitive skin
laser hair removal destroyed my chin area (made me breakout) REALLY BAD - not sure what it was doing but i never got pimples until i did laser!! Waste of money and didn't work as my hair is really light :(
Laser/IPL isn’t permanent, anyone who tells you it is doesn’t know wth they’re talking about ... the only true permanent hair removal is electrolysis... If you’re going to shave your face (or any other sensitive area), use a dedicated Shave Oil (like the one by King of Shaves). Baby Oil (unperfumed) is fine for non sensitive areas though, and both will leave your skin moisturised. Though you can wash is off if you have naturally oily skin on your face.
I'm so glad you finally did this! I use a cheap trimmer, it's kind of between a razor and an epilator. It's better than shaving because it's not pulling on your skin or running a blade over your skin, the little guide just gets the hairs raised off your face. Although I do notice a little irritation and occasional ingrown hair around my lip area.
please dont do this girls if you just have tiny barely noticeable blonde peach fuzz! theres nothing wrong with natural hair. Once you start doing this it just looks worse everytime it grows back! a good primer will flatten your hairs and look fine with foundation on top, no need to remove them! :)
She said that there isn't anything wrong with natural hair.... there's nothing wrong with deciding to get rid of it or do nothing about it. like for me, I know my peach fuzz isn't really noticeable but I still get rid of it just because I want to
Okay but some girls still want to remove their hair. It's up to them, not you. And your hair will not look worse every time it grows back. Stay in your lane
Ive been in the hair removing business for over 15 years, Im qualified to say that razoring your face will most likely increase your hair growth and cause you skin irritation, epilation will increase irritation to the area and cause more hair growth, waxing will increase your hair growth, the skin is very delicate and each and everyone of you has different factors, age , hormones, genetics, etc, hair and skin are complicated as is the body, please seek out educated experienced professionals to help you combat these issues! Please be sensible!
I'm a qualified beauty therapist and I would say the best way to remove unwanted hair on this face would be to wax it, waxing over time will cause the hair to grow back more sparse and could grow back thinner
I have dark hair and have done laser hair removal on several areas of my body, many times. Sadly, it is not permanent unless you do the keep up on it (several times a year) and it is just way too expensive! I have been waxing my upper lip for years and the hair is now thinner but because it's dark, it's still a nuisance. I would be interested in trying that machine. You have beautiful skin (even without makeup on) by the way!
Only the first time? I've been having it done for about 7 years and having my top lip done still makes my eyes water like crazy 😁 the eyebrows aren't so bad though and I've never had my face done so I can't comment on that one, you're so lucky it doesn't hurt you though 😊
I only get my eyebrows done and it barely hurts, and that's only because I have very sensitive skin. The most painful part for me is the thread running across my skin!
Its so good to see someone talk bout this with confidence. I have peach fuzz on my face and also down the centre of my neck, only really noticeable in the sunshine and when i put make up on. Ive been so scared to remove it incase it grows back black but i might try the epilator!
I learned this from a pornstar. LMAO. Use neosporin to shave your face/body! i used to get really bad razor burn, no matter what i used it was horrible. i just put a thin layer over my skin and shave like normal. then i wash my face with baby shampoo. yes baby shampoo! haha then i use coconut oil to moisturize. this has saved my life when it comes to shaving. hope it saves someone else's :-)
Hi shannon try applying cold ROSE WATER in either a spritz spray or on a cotton pad all over the skin after epilating, (i store my bottle in the fridge) its really good at cooling and soothing the skin and is used a lot in the middle east after waxing or threading! Xo
Last weekend I bought a Finishing Touch Lumina hair remover, which is basically a battery operated razor. It is very small, a lot like the ones you use for eyebrows and it has a light built in to make it easy to see what you are doing and I loved it! It really worked well for me and it only cost me $10.
I KNOW RIGHT! I remember my high school best friend used hair removal creme and i'd never used it and the first time I did I couldn't stand it and washed it off and little bits of blood were there around the surface of the hairs!
I'm the same! I tried the sensitive ones when I was younger and ended up with really bad skin irritation on my shins. I think some of us just can't use it! Tied to a life of shaving 😪 lol
Shan , just a tip after removing hair or doing anything that kinda irritates your face just use a cotton round and some rose water (preferably chilled) all over your face it helps calm the skin.
i have one long dark hair that grows on each of my wrist and grows back after a few months of plucking it lol. all the rest of the hair on my arms is blonde
lol girlfriend i hear you! I have at least 2 folicals on my face (one on my side/chin area and the other on my right cheek) I swear if I dont catch it and pluck it before it gets bad it it just never stops growing.i have no idea why it does that and like yours my are whitish (or maybe blonde) so I dont notice them unless I look really look for it. the struggle or unless it is extremely long... how embarrassing 😑
ahahaha that thumbnail is PERFECTION LOVE IT is have the same kind of peach fuzz where it's more concentrated/FLUFFY below the cheek bone and it's super blonde almost see through UNTIL you put makeup and powder over it and the light hits it at certain angles I still haven't had the balls to shave it or get rid of it but I'm coming soon close bc I hate how makeup sits on that area
I just discovered sugar waxing and it has changed my life! I do my arms, legs, bikini, under arms, face and the back of my neck!! It hurts a little at first but it's so much better than regular waxing! And the best part is, it costs next to nothing! 💜
+Alissa D it's more gentle because sugar waxing removes the hair in the "direction" of hair growth - rather than the "opposite" direction like regular waxing. It leaves your face feeling soft. I put baby powder on my skin before applying the wax and that helps a lot. I tried without the baby powder and the wax wouldn't grip my fine hairs. Baby powder is a must! Hope that helps! 😘
you should try witch hazel after removing the hair. it really works for me and i have extremely sensitive skin. it cools down the burning, helps with the redness, helps close the hair follicles and kills germs.
What a wonderful video. You have decided me, I'm getting a facial epilator. I can't use creams, too sensitive. Can't tweezer, too many hairs. Not worth lazering, too few hairs. So I shave every day all around my chin. My colouring is Snow White, my skin is white and my hair dark, so there is no hiding this. But epilating once a month beats shaving every day. Thank you! :D
Same here, though if I’m going out in the evening I will need to shave again! I use a dedicated shave oil now (by King Of Shaves), and it is much kinder to my skin than any shave gels/foams/creams I have used in the past! Having said that, I just purchased a Braun Sensosmart epilator with a face attachment, so will be giving that a try when I work up the courage haha
The BEST thing I have ever spent money on to remove hair! It will pay for itself in no time. I didn't have any post-threading or waxing bumps which are the same as pimples on my stash and face. I am so happy to have seen this video, I went to Farmer's and picked it up straight away and can't believe the results
I have an epilator, and I've used it on my armpits but I find it leaves them really red, with irritated bumps. So I'm afraid this would do the same to my face :/
The same thing happen if I do my armpits! But when I epilate my face I barely get any redness at all! I think it is because the roots of your armpit hairs are super long!
Shan you little ripper you! i never thought of epilating. I hate waxing and shaving the always make me breakout! also- what is the effect on your nails called?? i love it 😍😍😍
Hey! Just decided to drop in because there's this "disease" type thing (nothing life threatening I have it I'm just fine just on medication) called PCOS which is basically polycystic ovary syndrome which is basically you have a high amount of testosterone (the male whatever it's called its late I'm tired) which testosterone is something everyone needs but too much can be bad. If you have PCOS something that comes hand in hand with it is an overactive or under active thyroid which for that and PCOS you should talk medication for. PCOS can cause quite a bit of facial hair like more than normal and also irregular periods. I'm really only saying this because when people discover they have PCOS it's usually when they're older and it can cause infertility. So honestly if you think you have an abnormal amount of facial hair, you could read up on PCOS or the under active or overactive thyroid. Since I have both and I'm only 14, when they explained what came with what I got kinda confused.
Also depression can also go hand in hand with this (which I know because I also have that moderately) By all means don't think a lot of facial hair is a bad thing! I know certain places that's considered normal and I wish that's how it was for me because it sucksss getting rid of it but if you do have it, the hair does grow back quite a bit less. Positive comments only please, I'm just trying to be helpful. I hope you're all having a great day!! 😊💜
You are lucky that you are growing up in a time when there are a lot more options for women with Hirsutism (with PCOS). You may be able to try the medication Spiractonalone (sp?). I wish it was around 30 years ago when I was diagnosed!
In my experience, waxing my face produced the same results as how you described the Nair. I waxed above my eyebrows and my lip and no makeup would stick to it for 2-3 days. I found the hair grew back with similar thickness as well even though I waxed for 3 years. I've been going to a threading place for my upper lip for the past 4 months and now the hair is barely growing in and it's blonde so I'm super happy :) This seems like a great solution for convenience purposes if you want to do it at home though
Face waxing definitely doesn't have that effect. I mean if your blonde than maybe. Epilating has a similar effect to waxing, but Nir might have a bad effect, and it's full of chemicals.
Hey Shan, just so you're aware, the hair all over your body (so head, legs etc) is called terminal hair and the 'little fluffy hairs' you're talking about are called vellus hairs. It is strongly advised to not use a razor on your face, partly because they're not made for the face but also because when you remove the vellus hair it can grow back as terminal hair (this is the confusion about it supposedly growing back quicker) which is obviously thicker and longer. Hope this is helpful x
Love watching your videos, just wondering if you have a video on different foundations? There are so many to choose from its overwhelming! liquid, matte and powder and many many brands
I love your disclaimer that you don't NEED to remove face or body hair. Given the size of your audience I think it's important that you put that message that there's absolutely no need or pressure to alter your appearance out into the world. Thank you for being open-minded and nonjudgmental of other people's choices.
I have some blonde peachfuzz on my upper lip and it's really faint so it never bothered me until my boyfriend started to pick on me about it and now I'm here desperate and embarrassed ayy🤗
I use to have the same exact epilady you showed in Your video, but it broke after not even a year, so I got a new epilady that is for full body but I only use it for my face. I have never been happier. Good video 💜💐
+bran What sounds more grammatically correct? You are not early you are on time or You're not early, you're on time. They both correct but obviously you're is more commonly used than you are.
hi Shannon, I've been watching you for a very long time and am obsessed with your makeup looks! you are Beautiful and so inspiring!! could you please do a drugstore natural makeup look xxx love you lots xoxxoxo
so can shaving most of the times when my skin was irritated was when daxs two days in a row... with waxing your skin is smooth for 2 weeks , maybe even more
Shanon you are so inspiring to me,everytime I am in a bad mood or feeling down I just watch one of your videos(luckily this just appeared in my subscription box)and just by watching you explaining something or doing a makeup tutorial ,it totally helps me to relax. So thank you for being yourself❤And congratiulations on your success and I hope you know that we love you so much,I appreciate the sacrifices you've prpbably made to get this far and I wish you and your loved ones the best😇Greetings from Romania!🐶
I agree and would like to add that it kind of looks like she is sweating. She always looks flawless but in my personal opinion I'm not a fan of this makeup look.
MakeUpByCamila2, Shaaanxo & Desi Perkins those were the channels I only watched when I first started watching makeup videos on RU-vid & I was obsessed with these 3 channels! I just suddenly remembered this when you were talking through the first part of the video. I remembered how much I used to love you and I still love you. You inspired me and you 3 changed my life forever
Old wives tale. They only seem to look darker because they are stubbier when they first grow back out but once they grow to their original length, they're the same.
Shan, I do laser hair removal now, and they have a new technique called electrolysis, which removes every hair individually and it's meant for blonde or white hairs which the regular laser doesn't. It's been working on my moms white hairs, you should look into it.
Been waiting for this video. Definitely gonna purchase that. I've always wanted the hair gone on my face and I didn't wanna resort to shaving cuz I would of broken out too. Thanks for the informative video Shan ❤️
