This came in handy during a detail I am doing on a 2016 ford escape. Has mechanical and cloth seats but with airbags. I am very grateful for you making this video! The only thing different for me was the bolts holding the glove box on were 10mm instead of 8. Also, the negative terminal on the battery took a 13mm to get it disconnected.
All great info- surprised that there were already those differences in just the half step up in the changes from our generations! glad you were able to use this to save some time! Thanks for taking the time to share!
It's a fair question- I had read it was more of a redundancy to the system. There is also confirmation that the air bag is disabled by pulling the fuse and setting the warning light on the dash so that you can continue to work on anything else in the car and the battery in without the risk of the airbag going off. This can be especially important if you have power seats and can't manually slide the seat forward and back to get to each set of bolts holding the seat to the floor.
It's not a super convenient location for sure. In truth, the fuse box is also integrated into the BCM (Body Control Module) which has some major wire harnesses going in and out of it, so it's good to have tucked away to keep those intact....it's a good question though- why turn the module into a fuse box at all? Some extra steps to get in there :/
Absolutely no need to remove the weatherstriping, side panel and glove box to access this fuse. Just remove the fuse box foot well cover as shown and you have access to the airbag fuse.
