An ever-growing library of DIY's, "How-To's", and Reviews for you to make the most out of your '13-'15 Ford Escape!
I'm a mechanical engineer, and am a member of the FordEscape.org community forum, and go by the sn, "Rahrena". I purchased my '13 Ford Escape SE with 50,000 mi already on the 1.6T engine, so my warranty was already up.
This prompted me to have less to lose than others with experimenting with my FE, and I have found a great deal of success, converting my MyFord Touch to have NAV, installing aftermarket backup cameras, and more. There's also a strong emphasis on basic vehicle maintenance!
The goal is to create a video library where we can come watch tutorials on how we can make the most of our vehicles. SUBSCRIBE!

. I just picked up a 2011 Ford escape and I noticed the foul smell and discovered lots of water in my spare tire well. I had to remove the padding which was causing the smell due to mold. I reinforced the patch that was already there, but I still have a small amount of moisture coming in yet I’ve been unable to determine source. Sorry for your trouble, but at least I’m not alone.
Ugh sorry you're dealing with it too. The mold can be managed if you deal with it there before it spreads. I'd recommend checking roof rack mounts, upper brake light seals, as well as the flexible rubber boots that feed wire harnesses from the car body to the hatch/lift gate. Sometimes those can pop up and water can come in there too.
Oh no! Did you find a puller tool? That was the muscle that did it for most who have had a hard time with the initial penetrating oil on the bushing and the motor shaft.
Can’t thank you enough for this video. Saved me $500+ and your step by step instructions are with the best of them on RU-vid sir. Sending love and appreciation from Texas 😎
Sorry for the delay- so you went to cycle the wipers with no arms/blades and each motor is standing still regardless of the switch being turned on? Check fuses?
@@aarsenalfan any chance the wand/lever where the wiper switch is located is going bad? I had that go on our F150 at one point and had to change it out. Were they working before you took the arms off?
Came today from the dealer to fix that. Now I have a transmission failure message on the dashboard. Do any of u have the same problem after replace this?
If you only have one key and it's a restricted MyKey, you can't access the MyKey settings to turn it off. If you make a second key... ANY second key.... that is programmed to pair with the vehicle and can turn it on, it is considered an Admin Key and will get you access back to turn off the MyKey settings. That being said, you CAN get a brand new shiny FOB with buttons and all, but if you JUST want to get your MyKey settings off and want to save some cash, you can have a locksmith make you a valet key that doesn't have any buttons on it, but can be programmed and paired with your vehicle. As long as it can start the car, it is paired and will become an Admin key. Hope this helps.
I can't seem to get it to re-seat properly. I confirmed the two prongs are lined up and the front clip is in the slot of the white button but still doesn't want to slide in all the way. Any ideas what could be holding it up? Thanks.
@@HowToEscapeDIYTipsandReviews yeah that’s the problem I wanna change the factory one since I’m having problem with my family so I think they might try to do something to car
@@dilpreetdosanjh3494 man that sounds tough- it could be a bit dramatic, but you could pull the panels off the door and disconnect the wiring connector to the keypad? That way you just have the physical key?
Well I'm not 100% positive, but there may be other half step sockets in those size, but we needed the 19.5mm socket which happened to have the 18.5mm on the other end. You could probably find a 17.5 and 21.5 if you looked.
I had a mirror falling off due to adhesive failure and for some reason the spring tab is missing. Is it crucial that I have one before reinstalling the mirror Or can I get away with just putting it back on the way it was?
I believe the spring tab applies pressure to the snap ring that holds the mirror to the gimbal motor- sorry, but I think you're on the right track in thinking it necessary. I'd find a new mirror with one, or see if you can pull one from a junk yard for cheap maybe?
This came in handy during a detail I am doing on a 2016 ford escape. Has mechanical and cloth seats but with airbags. I am very grateful for you making this video! The only thing different for me was the bolts holding the glove box on were 10mm instead of 8. Also, the negative terminal on the battery took a 13mm to get it disconnected.
All great info- surprised that there were already those differences in just the half step up in the changes from our generations! glad you were able to use this to save some time! Thanks for taking the time to share!
Thanks for this video I'm going through the same problem thought it was the transmission but it can't be cause I had the transmission fix 4 months ago .. Car would turn on running but I couldn't change gears reverse or Drive mode or anything gears slides like butter just stays in parking..so it can't be the transmission it's the Shifter Cable Bushing thanks for this video again bro
Here's a tip If you want to cancel my key settings and it wont let you. Are you using the master key or the spare key ? Master key works instantly. If you only have one key, then keep trying and good luck.
@@mauricerob236 there should be 3. One on the left on the engine, one in the back of the engine, and the other on the right on the transmission. The engine and transmission are bolted together of course so that's why the right one is on the trans to hold up that side.
Thank you for a clear and easy to understand video. I have a 17 SE and upgrading the trim level to the black package. I wanted to know how to remove this fender trim and your video just explained it to me. Im basically doing a Chrome delete and blacking out some trim sections of the car.
Yes- the 4WD is always on, but only in certain conditions where traction control may be kicking in, or if you're just accelerating from a start. The power control module tells the rear differential when to kick in vs just have the 2 wheels up front doing most of the work. From what I can tell, once you're up to speed, it's mostly (if not always) running on the front wheels.
Finally! Every search I did for my front side marker bulb replacement kept turning up the bottom bulb like the fog light area. I typed in 168 to my search and bam quick easy to follow straight to the point video! Thanks!!
I have a 2015 Ford fusion and I'm going to try this because I got my whole windshield replaced a couple months back and ever since the guy changed my windshield the wipers don't act right. The driver one is high like the start of your video and the right one overshoots every time I start the car and hits the driver side because it goes to fast.
I've been using one for about a month. Works very well, and capable of pretty precise adjustment as a secondary lift device for certain purposes. I do question the ultimate longevity of the rubber bladders, because rubber always eventually deteriorates. I keep it out of sunlight and I'll start giving it annual rubber treatments.
THANK YOU!! Seemingly the same as everybody else in here, had my wipers acting up after a battery replacement (that was ALSO crazy) Your video is detailed, to the point and perfect for ‘step by step follow along’ DiY’ing. Thank thank thank you
This is an amazing video and I probably would have had to take this to a shop if it didnt exist. I did fine with just a regular socket set. Took about an hour just from sweating and having to let my fingers rest from cramping up.
What if you don't have the factory code? I just got one used and it's not in the manual. And I only got 1key. So I can't do that trick to find your code
Hey there- if you don't have the factory code and you have a '13-'19 Escape, you can find the code located on a sticker on the BCM, which is a fuse/connector/computer box located in the passenger front footwell behind the glovebox. We did a video on finding the code and it doesn't have anything to do with only having one key so you should be good to go there - hope this helps!
