I'm a detailer for a Toyota dealership and everyday I have to clean vehicles that the lot bought and rims that were once a bright metallic color like the rims in the video, were just a dirty. nasty color. we just use a concentrated degreaser on the rims and if that doesn't work, we have some spoke acid that is kind of a god send. removes the brake dust and contaminant from rims, removes waterspots and bonded particles from paint, also removes most waterspots from windows depending on how strong the dilution is. but DO NOT leave the spoke acid on the paint or the windows for too long and don't use it when the vehicles been buffed.. but nonetheless, great videos, love you guys, glad to see a group of people out there showing the world how to maintain their cars!

Andryusha Zharkov Yeah, that acid is good for 99% of the vehicles and it's really good for all the uses you described. But for vehicles who have a thick layer of brake dust it will be impossible for the regular acid cleaner to remove. I use the ardex brake dust remover (not acid based) in those cases, just spray it and let it work it's magic for 10 to 15 minutes and in most cases won't even need to scrub, just rinse it off and good as new.

That guy Greg sold me and everyone else on Chemical Guys. I like Matt, but everyone else is boring with no personality. The point of these videos is for them to "Sell" products and these guys don't do as good of a job at it.

I have some wheels, SOTHIS sc002 flat gray finished. They have accumulated brake dust and doesn't come off, even with a hard scrub on them... Would this product do the trick?

I would love it if the people doing these videos and using "their" product would instead first try common products to show that it does not come off and then use their product to show that their product actually does the trick that common products won't. It's easy to show brake dust that would easily come off and it makes the product they use look like it works, but in reality any common product would work just as good. So Chemical Guys, next time you show how your product works, try using a common product first to show that it really is not easy to clean.

@@elgato1013 I agree with you. The bucket of soapy water with the brushes removed the brake dust and dirt. People need to stop buying 20 different products to wash a car. The real product test would have been to spray wheel down with the cleaner, wait the three minutes and spray it off with water to see amount of dust left on wheel.

brake dust comes off with plain water and a rag. No spray removes brake dust by itself.

Does this strip the paint on painted wheels? I plan on getting some different wheels later on but right now I have the OEM wheels but painted white. I don’t want to strip that paint off but I want to get the brake dust and grime off

Will this work even if the break dust has been on there for years? Also, any tips on removing break dust from the vehicle itself? I was hard headed in high school and didn't get my breaks fixed so that break dust got all over my left side. Other than buffing, or a new paint job, I wanted to see about some home remedies.

Hey thanks for watching, It definitely will help to loosen as much of that break dust as possible. I suggest a thorough pressure washing to break up as much caked on dirt and grime. Apply some DeconPro afterwards, and watch as it eats away at the break dust without damaging your wheels. You can also try to clay bar the wheels to extract stuborn stuck on deposits.

Chemical Guys not true I have customer who have even a 90’s car that has serious brake dust embedded in and your product only removes 70% all the other stuff that’s in the corner is the 30% you can’t get without using a steam cleaner and still THEN!! It’s not guaranteed it’s just the truth! Not on 90s’ and 80’s car that has never been cleaned (rims).

This is easy to clean. How about a video with matte black wheels, such as certain AMG factory rims? Now those are hard to clean!

Hi and thanks for watching. Matte black wheels are definitely difficult to clean because they are more sensitive, and it's very easy to scratch them which can ruin any detail. We advocate using soft brushes like our Wheel Woolies, Gerbil brushes, Easy wheel brush, and using chemicals that are safe for matte wheels like Diablo Wheel Gel, and Meticulous Matte soap. Nothing can remove that type of damage. If brake dust sits so long that it "burns" into the rim and starts to corrode the finish, the whole wheel must be stripped and refinished.

@@ChemicalGuys That’s what im saying. Unfortunately neither have been strong enough to remove the brake dust caked onto my wheels. I’ve been recommended to try wheel acid, as well as a steamer, or some coarse compound with a rotary tool (as opposed to regular compound)
