Same, we used to leave the metal part in the roof at the beginning as there weren't any tutorials online back then years ago. I'm glad I made it easier for you. Once we started removing the metal part it just made sense and made the job much easier 😅

@Reece.wilson Thanks Reece. I struggled getting the whole moulded liner out. I ended up damaging the corners and cracking another couple of places. I have a WM Statesman. Bit longer than the Commodores. I repaired it with some Gorrila glue good as new. I had the front and rear screens out for installation. Very simple except for the visors...😄

I feel like i'm the dumbest human being alive, i was trying to fit those while the metal part was on the car i spent hours then i came inside the house (after i managed to somewhat make it "stay" on the car and by somewhat i mean it was barely holding on to it's life) and search youtube thinking it has to be a simpler way. Thank you Sir for showing me the way to the next step in human evolution!! :))

Its ok, I've been there and done that too 🤕 thinking there has to be an easier way haha. Makes it so much easier having the metal bracket out and reassemble while its completely removed.

Essential viewing as this part of the process is crucial.If the visor obstructs your view at high speed,your taking an unnecessary risk.Thanks for the video,your time and effort.

Shot for the detailed walkthrough dude! I removed mine, kind of roughly, when I removed the roof liner. Went to put back in for WoF and yeh found i was missing some pieces etc. =)

Thanks for the video. The metal clip somehow was inside the roof. Had to get it out through the holes above the sunroof switch. You saved me time and a headache..Thanks again and cheers! G8 GT!!!🇺🇸

Awesome tutorial....in the process of doing my homework as my G8 Sportswagon headliner is starting to come down...bit dissapointed with the build quality to be honest! I've got other cars older than 25 years & their headliners are still in good condition!👍🍻

Who's dumb idea was it to make those. Same goes for grab handles, floating mounts backed with plastic that falls apart. Glad they aren't making these heaps anymore

Thanks for your comment, I agree, the older way to remove most plastics was just a simple screw, but the newer cars are becoming more time consuming to work on, with all thats involved now in taking off simple plastic components.

Its really all about manufacturing efficiency. Its probably quicker to have these survivor clips show up to the station ready to click into place rather than having to get the part, find a screw and getting a tool to zap the screw into it. I do agree that older cars are better though but VEs really are pretty easy to work on.

Is there somewhere we can buy new clips? The metal clip fell into the roof lining and I basically had to rip it apart to get it out.

Maybe through ebay or a holden dealer you could buy Replacement parts for the rooflining, or wreckers.

If the metal clip falls inside the metal part of the roof, may be very difficult to remove, and sometimes I'm not sure if you can. However if its between the headliner board and metal roof, you could get it by removing down or flexing away some of the headliner board, if you still can't reach it, you may have to drop the headliner board completely down, or just replace the metal clip.

Same on VF Commodore Roof linings , they use the same board as VE and will eventually have a saggy roof. We done one now so far.

Took mine apart but just removed the plastic minus the metal piece that stays in the roof. Cannot for the life of me get it to stay on properly without it feeling like it's going to come off

Haha yeah looks odd, but I think it's because my hands were cut up from something a few days before the video. So gloves were ideal instead of zooming up to cuts LOL
