How to Remove Old Bubbling Window Tint and Replace with New Window Tint | Dirty Messy Job! People ask how much to Remove old window tint. Removing old bubbling window tint is not a fun job. Replacing window tint can take a lot of time and be a dirty job to get done. Some films can be removed all in one shot and some window tint comes off and leaves the glue behind. Of course you don't want to damage the rear glass so most of the time you need tyo strip the glue with chemicals. Now there are other ways of doing this but when it's cold outside you can't use the heat to help. I steamed this od bubbling tint but the glue didn't come off. So I used Super Stripper and LAs Awesome to remove the glue.

It's not the adhesive. Glues don't "fail" in specific areas only. Those window defrosters are heating that tint up. Over time it caused moisture build-up then "boiling" of the moisture, then, those bubbles. The steam had no place to vent. If window tint is watertight and hydrophobic, there should be no need to "defrost" rear windows. Tell customers to find tint safe anti fogger crap to spray on the rear window tint and tell them DO NOT USE rear defrosters.

Great job! I'm was 3m tinter/trainer from Houston in the 80's and 90's However, I've been an owner operator trucker for the past 27 years. I always tell the customer that the defroster might not work after the film has been removed, to cover my back and have them sign a release to avoid future litigation. My old boss taught me to do inspections, take pictures and have them sign the inspection sheet before any work was to be done. On back glasses, I use simple green, cut a trash bag to fit, put over the tint, leave it in the sun or use a heat gun on the outside to help emulsify the glue. (I cover the interior to protect it from the simple green solvent) This usually works most of the time but if you are dealing with an old car, the tint still comes off in tiny pieces. Then, I just use a heat gun on the outside to heat up the glue. Worst case senario, the defroster comes off with the tint. That's when you show it to the customer and tell him the defrosters is not going to work anymore. Then, you can feel free to razor blade the back glass and remove the defroster paint too. (This didn't happen very often) Keep up the great work.

You know your stuff and have been through this. I like the Super Stripper personally. If I spray and leave it on the glue it will actually disolve the glue away as long as it doesn't dry out. I'll spry the glass and keep it wet with SS and work on other things until it's clean. It doesn't even mess up the interior pieces either. Thanks for sharing your information.

Just got my Civic backglass removed last night. Came off in pieces and much more nasty than this. I guessed the tint was so old and thinnered up so pieces still stucked on and had to be removed by razor blade. I had to remove some of defroster lines as well ( no choice) It took a lot longer than expected. Now, look like I have to touch up defroster line paint conductive. F*** that job. When the tint is old, it will take the defroster line with it. I did use the steamer vigorously and let it sit to soften the film.

It appears that the person featured in the video is knowledgeable about the tinting process and demonstrates a professional approach. Bubbling in window tint can be caused by various factors, such as high temperatures, particularly when cars are parked outside, which is more common in southern states like Florida and California. Additionally, excessive heat application during the installation process, typically done with a heat gun, can damage the film and cause it to harden, potentially allowing air to penetrate the rear window, particularly in the area between the heating wire and the glass. This highlights the importance of the skill and expertise of the installer in ensuring a high-quality and professional tint installation. When performing the forming process, it is crucial to apply just the right amount of heat needed, as window tint films have a predetermined threshold for heat tolerance before hardening.

Hit up The Home Depot and grab some 'ZEPS Floor Stripper' and watch that adhesive just run off the glass. Don't dilute it. Just pour into spray bottle, spray on, and let it sit for about one min. All companies making A+ b c grade films with different adhesives. Aftermarket films with lifetime warranty lasts about 3-5 years then rear windshields suffer the heat elements. The films under heat contrast like condensation and collapse under their own. Regardless of removals the glue can be removed with Acetone with gloves and mask n goggles. I've removed hundreds of rear windshield glues in less than 1 minute. After the clean up a scrub off and 1 final winder n water and baby shampoo for a total of 3 minutes. @FadeToBlackLLC If possible, yes. I also use a heat gun if the glass isn't warming up in areas that are away from the defogger lines. You're probably going to need to reset the defogger button once because it shuts off around 15 minutes. 20 minutes is usually long enough.

I have a much better way to remove it. The basic idea is using Super Strong chemical to penetrate the tint. You need some old school paint remover, or you can mix 6 part of methylene chloride with 4 part of methanol. You need protection gear of these chemicals. You put a lot of them on the old tint. Wait for 10 min. The tint will come right off without any effort. Then, use acetone to remove the glue. Repeat the process above.. Reminder: any product contains Methylene Chloride will do the job. It can get the job done really fast. However, this is a highly toxic chemical. You have to wear protection gear to do the job. You can pin this review.

@lynnmei4346
@lynnmei4346 2 года назад
@@alanandrade2083 yep. I wear a gas mask and protection suit and gloves while working. The old school paint remover I got is gel-like. I cover everything I don't want to damage with multiple layers of plastic cover. Then, I use a cheap paint brush to cover all the tint with gel like paint remover. Waiting for 5-8min, I can use a plastic card to scrape off the tint very very very easily. Then I warp them in the plastic cover and throw everything away. The last step is to use a towel wet with acetone to swipe out the remaining tint glue. It is very time efficient if you have done it correctly.
@lynnmei4346
@lynnmei4346 2 года назад
@@alanandrade2083 yes it is a desperate solution. I spent a week slowly working with a heat gun only to peel off a small corner with a lot of let over. Using this chemical helped me finish this job in about 3 hours. If you have the knowledge to handle chemicals, this will be your best choice.

I'm a chemist 🧪 and the best Way to get it off is actually Regular 409 and or any Sulfa based degreaser or I like to use Greesed Lighting. After spraying the window fully in, cover with plastic even cheep garbage bags work once the degreaser is covered by the plastic fully! Leave the car out in the sun 🌞 for at least 3 hours and then the tint and! The glue will sluff off! REMEMBER to remove it slowly! AND if some glue sticks just use the Greesed lightning ⚡ full no dilution and it will come off after sitting another 20 to 30 minutes.
