How to remove Plasti Dip (Thin or old) This small project completely surprised me, can not believe how well this diy process worked! How to plasti dip rims (remove) Plasti dip car removal Thank you for watching!
Thanks! I had a light coat on the chrome sections of my tacoma grill. I used the standard goo gone and got the same great results. Videos like these really reduce frustration! Thanks
Thanks brother. Watched your video. Order product on Amazon. Had plasti-dip on my Tacoma fenders that were peeling off. Sprayed Goo Gone and it started bubbling. Started wiping it off because i was too lazy to get out my power washer. Sprayed more on and let it sit overnight and hit it with the power washer in morning. Shazam, worked awesome. You’re the best.
Thanks for making this video, just bought an used 2015 mazda 6 and the rims we're very poorly plastidiped, I'm glad I watched this video, you helped me saving $$, as I was going to buy later the cleaners that sell in auto parts shops.
Thank you for the video. Went this morning to the auto supply and bought a bottle and it worked like magic. After spending hours trying to remove it dry, I did the 2 last wheels in about an hour. Glad you did this video, saved me a lot of time.
I dont know why the makers of plastidip tell you is so easy to peel off when its not. I ve decided to paint my wheels with regular paint. I discovered that engine paint is much better and tougher that this and regular auto paint. I painted a spare wheel black with engine paint and boy does it look awesome and the paint is so strong couldnt even scratch it with my nail. Cant wait to do all four wheels in my car.
Yeah Plastidip is really only good if you know your gonna remove it in a year or so. Great idea with the engine paint, I wish they made more colors tho.
Whats nice about plastidip is you dont have to mask anythink off. It peels easily but you need like 5-8 heavy coats and only really works on flat surfaces. Engine paint is a good idea. I didn't know it was tough like that
Plastidip is a good product.....BUT. NOT FOR WHEELS. Yet most people use it for their wheels. If you are going through the process of dipping your wheels you may as well paint them. 3 to 4 coats of paint and 2 coats of clear. Much better result and yes, easier to clean brake dust from paint. Plasti diped wheels over time do not clean up well. JUST PAINT THEM.
Thanks for this information, I had to do my Jeeps roof because plastidip was sprayed on over old oxidized paint. I thought it would never come off but Goo Gone worked perfectly. Got the 24oz bottle, sprayed it on the entire roof, waited like 15-20 minutes then power washed it right off, the plastidip was literally turned to liquid. Need a Plastidip remover, this is the answer. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the video man! Wish I would have watched it a day earlier XD. I bought a gallon of dip disolver for 80$, as I have to disolve it from an entire Audi A5. Definitely going to pick up a bottle of this to start with first!
Nothing but praise for this method! I started by pressure washing the rims to get off as much plasti dip as I could. Then, I used this method, and boy did it work. Just make sure to use a very generous amount of the automotive goo gone and you should be good to go. Thank you for the life saving video!
B Rock 86 The goo gone worked but it ran out quick. I was doing a full-size GMC Sierra. So I ended up buying a can of xylene at Home Depot for around 20 bucks. My whole weekend was shot but I got most of it off. I'm going to take another day & use the goo gone to do the detail work and get it 100% clean. That xylene was stronger than the goo gone but its pretty potent sh%t to be breathing in. Either way taking this sh%t off an entire truck really sucked!! 👎plasti-dip😡
Thank you for the video man! Helpful for sure. I recently got a G37 and the rims were plasti dipped black and it’s peeling like crazy. Wasn’t sure what product to use but I’m going with goo-gone now!
glad you put this video up, i have some goo gone in my pantry. the "professionals" are pretty much just trying to get you to buy their home made (probably inferior) product, when they said the main ingredient was a citrus based degreaser it immediately made me think if goo gone would work
Invest in a pressure washer. I did the 8 coats so mine was really thick and i didnt spray it with anything, just held the hose to a spot until it peeled and then it practically folded off. Took about 6 mins per wheel and no wiping/towel waste.
Wow. Sprayed this on all 4 wheels of plastidip that been on I'd say 2 years.. and bout 5-10 minutes later not even 30 min. And saw it bubbling. Power washed it. And literally seconds later ALL OFF..
For really old plastic dip that feels like it won’t come off don’t try Goo gone. I tried it and nothing worked. I tried soaking it for an hour and nothing. Instead I tried Goof Off Pro Strength remover. It may sound the same but it’s not. It did the job pretty good, enjoy.
Hey, thanks for the vid. Is one 24oz bottle enough for 4 wheels that are slightly thicker than your wheels? Also, is it safe to do with wheels on the car?
+Jigar my pleasure, thank you for watching man! Yeah one bottle is plenty. I did all four wheels and still had two thirds left. You can do it with the wheels on the car but be careful not to get it on the brakes. Also I wanted to make sure to get all of it off inside the lug but wells.
I need some help I have white powercoated wheels that have a layer of green spray paint over them with black plastidip over that. Is there anyway for me to take off both the plastidip and green paint to get back to the white powdercoat? Thanks
Ok, so I was young and dumb (2 years ago) and plasti dipped my hood and then decided not to finish. I plan on getting the hood paint matched, but if I use this will it take the paint on my hood off? The hood is painted a different color than the rest of my car underneath the plastidip.
It says it is safe for use on automotive surface like body paint. There have been lots of people in the comments that have had good results on large panels of there cars. Thank you for watching!
It should work just as well on a whole car. The product is designed to be able to help remove residue from stickers and other things like bug guts lol. Never had it harm paint before but you can always test it on a small, less conspicuous panel first. Thank you for watching! I hope this helps.
Thanks so much dude. Have you tried this on paint do you know if it's safe to use to remove the bullshit stripe across the hood or will I ruin my paint in the process
I tried this on my 2000 Ford Mustang wheels some dump ass kid tried to tuner it out and plastic dipped the wheels black and the two bumpers and the rockers leaving the rest of the car blue I got all the plastic dip off finally and got my wheels to a nice aluminum clean finish giving my mustang that nice clean original muscle look (But in some areas it wasn’t that easy to get off more like the thic areas I left the goo gone sitting for about an hour after cleaning and pre soaking I started to wipe my wheels but ended up needing a fkn rugged plastic sponge which made the job faster
No problem bro thanks for the advice I wish I would’ve known of this idea when I hand peeled the rear bumper it was a pain in the ass I don’t think I mentioned that in my last comment but I used your method on the wheels and rockers works great thank for the video again

I bought the very same exact Goo Gone. Waited a bit more than 30min. Doesnt “melt” like this at all. It can peel of a little bit but not at all like the video.
B Rock 86 Even with pressure washer only a few bits took off. But the plastidip was very thin. The previous owner of those wheels was greedy on the dip. Very thin layers. Best way i found is using 3M Adhesive Remover and acetone. Took more than 2 hours to do two wheels.
I spent 3 hours trying to get mine off!! I’m using this next time!! I had to have someone professional get it off for me! I’m getting goo gone tomorrow!! I used goof off
Nah man thank you I got a Acura TL Type-S and somebody plasti dipped the nice waffle rims and after watching your video it actually gave me hope of getting it off since they put it on to thin. I tried one little spot with brake cleaner and I didn't like the way it came out even if the bronze is it on the other side of the Plasti dip at least it'll be down to bare metal aluminum and look a lot better than that dusty ass thin black. 👌👌👌
