There are a million ways or more to remove stubborn Plasti Dip, but which one is the best? In this video, we try some of the most common products in the same setting and see which works the best.

use the spray googone, soak the entire surface with a thick coat and let sit for 20 minutes. Pressure wash at close range. It comes right off

Try Rapid Remover and a electric power washer with turbo tip. Just used that method today, and it was amazing!

I went to O'Reilly and bought a can of brake cleaner for 4.29 I sprayed let it sit about 10 minutes came back sprayed it again and it wiped off like makeup

Wd40 worked great for me. The wd40 basically caused it to release from the rims and made it way easier to peel off. The wd40 is not for melting and wiping off the plasti dip. I used engine degreaser for the hard to remove spots and it straight up liquified the plasti dip making it very easy to wipe away.

Broooo....so glad i found this vid....i was goin to go with goo gone but in the instructions it said no rubber surfaces.....so i went with the bug and tar remover......HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD....the longer it sits the easier it is...i literally removed the plasta dip with my finger by just rubbing it

One that is really good to use is Remington REM oil (gun oil). Get the one that is a green and yellow can. You spray it on the surface that has plasti dip and while it's still wet you wipe it off with a towel. You won't even break a sweat doing it.

I just bought mothers foaming bug and tar remover and armorall extreme bug and tar remover and it did absolutely "NOTHING". Thee only thing that i found that works is goo gone. The spray works good but buy the gel spray if available. A couple minutes of wait time and hit it with a bristle brush and it just melts away. Get plenty of microfiber cloths to wipe it off.

What really works and I tried on my wheels is white vinegar mixed with baking soda,just make sure you wear latex gloves if you are doing all 4 wheels.

Yea I've had good luck with mineral spirits or paint thinner. It literally almost melted off. Took a little scrubbing but made it way way easier

I used the exact same bug tar remover and it worked wonders on thin or heavy coated plastic dip. It was on my front chrome bumper and I coated it with the bug tar remover and used a cloth and man it just rolled off. Could even take my finger and it was gone

I just used a product made by JASCO, Premium paint & epoxy remover - brushable semi-paste. It took absolutely mininmal effort to remove the plasti dip!! Highly recommend.

I had no issue peeling most of mine off without any product. Any of the trouble spots I just used acetone. Works better than any product tested here.Very glad you made this video though. Well done!

Robert Dittenhauser Thanks Robert! If Plasti Dip is applied properly it should peel off as your experience shows. When it's applied too thin you have to resort to other measures. I'll be sure to try acetone for a test sometime as now I'm curious to see how it will perform!

Plastidip is good at removing plastidip, no joke. Spray fresh plastidip over dry plastidip and it works like a charm.

I just watched this today, I made the mistake of spraying too thin of a layer on my truck and it was such a b***h taking it off and goo gone worked awesome! I left it sitting for about an hour and it peeled off like a dream, it's super messy but who cares it works so well.

My husband sprayed on some kind of cleaning/wax stuff we purchased out of a gas station parking lot. One of those vendors pushing a product out in front type deal. Anyway he sprayed it all over the running boards then used his power washer with high pressure and it came off so easy. Worked like a charm. Running boards looked new.

xylene is the main thinning agent in plastidip. You can pick it up at the local hardware store it literally melts it off without damaging the factory finish.

Kerosene, spray bottle, scrub brush and a pressure washer. I had a set of motorcycle wheels and a swing arm with several applications over 2 years they have deep crevices and rough surface texture. All ready for blasting and powder coating.

"Well, that settles it,!" leave that engine cleaner on there for about 5-10 & it WILL literally melt off. elbow grease optional. overspray wipes away as well.be careful tho, strong stuff, wont eat the paint

The wd-40 method works really well but the catch is you have to wait 40 to 50 minutes for it to work.

Silicon based tire shine is what destroys/removes dip, So some brands/types can be dangerous when applying to your tires, and others, like this one, will only help it haha

Use brake cleaner it's the best way to strip it, just make sure you can either take your tire off the rim or keep it off your tire as best as possible

if the wheels are chrome or aluminum just use air craft stripper. will melt all the dip off down to original chrome or aluminum. no scraping. washes off with garden hose. $15 at orielys

Just tried a wax & grease remover that's used for paint prep. It removes plasti-dip easily like a scratch 'n' win card coating. I used a 3M non-scratch dish-washing pad to rub it off...just dab it on, wait 20 seconds and rub off...so easy

I disagree. I used wd40 on my wheels 2 days ago.... SPRAY ONE COAT ON..LET IT SIT, SPRAY ANOTHER COAT, WIPE WHILE WET... comes right off... Dipped back in 2017. Clean as every. Gloss coating on the wheels too

Get a gallon of odorless Mineral Spirits and some of the blue shop towels. Takes it right off. Getting my M3 ready for paint and the dip over spray is everywhere. Just did the trunk and hood channels with about two ounces. Use the shop towel like a paint brush to keep the dip wet. Can use microfiber towel also. Know what is underneath and how it will react to the spirits, get ready to be happy, you can thank me later

The tire shine gel didn't work? Why would it? It isn't a cleaning product at all. Brake cleaner works better than any of these, and faster.

Spraying ten times the amount that will adhere is a huge waste of time and material. Wrap or lay a paper towel on if you want to keep it moistened, please. Perhaps this can also become a test for damage to tire rubber resulting from copious amounts of runoff?

GOO GONE SPRAY IS THE BEST. SPRAY IT ON AND LET IT SIT FOR ABOUT 30-45 MINUTES. USED A FEW RAGS AND WIPE IT DOWN. SHOULD COME OFF PRETTY EASILY. MIGHT NEED MORE THAN 3 RAGS FOR ALL 4 WHEELS.

For the price of all three of those products I could easily just buy dip disolver. Not much of a hack if you need three products and lots of elbow grease. With dip disolver you soak it then wash it right off.

My first time removing plastic dip from wheels I used automotive lacquer thinner on what didn't want come off. It left stains but with a clean rag it solved that. Automotive reducer would work the same but warning be careful how you use on any part of a vehicle

I just tried wd40 on the chrome areas of my grill. The hyperdip literally wiped off with ease. In some sections it was like fresh paint being wiped away. Maybe it's different with metals.

Maybe drench a rag and then push the rag against it so it soaks. On a hood, I could put a goo gone soaked rag.

To sum up the top vauched for plasti dip removal product within the comments I'll say it's BRAKE CLEANER. Some even attest that it works wonders(so long as one wipes soon after applying since break cleaner tends to evaporated in a short period of time)

Brake-cleaner is OK on paint, since paint is hardened, if you have to clean a mess but if you don't better not use it. Aceton cleans paint. Goof-off and brake cleaner together can be used very carefully just don't spray on brakes/disc/pads/tire.

The GooGone works great... use it wet and keep it wet...I use a body panel scraper and it's really a trouble free way of getting off PlastiDip. .. I'm in the process is re-doing my wheels and am using GooGone to clear the wheels for the new coating... I'll throw a video up of the GooGone in action later today...👈

If the plasti dip is thick enough in spots to peel it off certainly start with that. This is last resort and becomes very time consuming when you have to resort to these types of chemicals. I'd like to try the dip desolver that dip-your-car offers, however it's very expensive and I didn't want to wait for shipping to get these wheels of (I had a weekend and was impatient). My suggestion would be to start with one panel, peel what you can, and then try goo gone or bug and tar and see how it goes from there. If it's a super pain you might bite the bullet and try dip desolver. Good luck!

So used Plasti Dip smoke on my tail lights. the break cleaner didn't seem even do anything other then shine them up. used paint stripper that made the Plasti Dip turn into like a freaking Super Glue. try the wheel cleaner. so I'm assuming that the plasti dip smoke is a totally different formula than what the Standard Plasti Dip stuff is made of.

Why not just peel it of as it was designed to do? I've never in the 4 years that I've dipped, ever needed to use chemicals to remove Plasti Dip. If you applied it properly with a minimum of 5 coats, it will peel off like a sheet. Just saying.

I do 6 coats minimum yeah it may cost more in dip to do it but it's a lot easier to pull off when you don't want it on their anymore
