I have the same car. I had my headlight bulbs changed and they had to take the bumper off to replace them. I paid 150.00 to take the bumper off and 30.00 for the bulbs. I won't buy another Chevrolet, ever.... Great video. Wish I saw this before paying 150.00 to RoadMart.
Sorry to hear that. They know the average person is not going to be able to do this. Instead of 20 or $30 for a headlight it becomes like $200. Easy money for the dealer or mechanic. They want to make it so you have to bring the car in for every little thing...$$$$$$$. You are not the only one who has said I will never buy a chevy again. They will end up hurting themselves in the long run. Anyway. Thanks for watching.
@Jamar Henderson . If you must know and if it's any of your business. My man has tools, but he had a massive stroke. Before the stroke, he did everything, and now certain things are limited. I pray you don't have any serious medical issues that limit what you can do. Have a blessed day.
Doesn't matter what car brand that you buy. If it's less than 20 yrs old, it's going to be expensive to repair because everything is put together so tight to meet fuel economy standards, etc.
I bought a new Malibu and traded in my '08 Malibu. I showed the 3 $180 service bills for headlight replacement and had them subtract that money from the sales price. They balked, I walked, and the dealer called 2 days later and agreed to the deal. I told the sales manager he could thank GM for the assinine design, a fellow ought to be able to change a headlight element on a car!
eric young I want to punch the engineers at Chevy for this design as I am in the midst and cannot get the stupid bumper to fit back in correctly! This video made it look suspiciously too easy.
lastmoto777 really??? We have to thank you for making us use a pole vault to step over a pile of ant shit?? Come on; this is yet another money maker for repair shops.
Hey all, had a collision on my 2012 Malibu not too long ago. In this video you can see a small sensor screwed on top of the frame facing the radiator once the bumper cover is removed. Does anyone know what the sensor is called and how much, mine broke off. Would like to buy a new one.
Thanks for the video-I have to do this job on a 2013, so I'm guessing it will be similar-mostly, I was thinking I'd have to pull the headlights, but it looks like I won't need to.
Glad it helped. It should be exactly the same. This is a good time to consider changing bulbs if they need it because you have to remove the bumper cover to do it .Anyway, best of luck with that. Thanks for watching.
@@lastmoto777 I finished the job yesterday. My wife had hit a barrel in the road, and the cover was broken, along with tearing out the inner wheel well on the pass. side. I had the old cover off in just a few minutes. What took a long time was removing the grills from the old cover, and installing them on the new cover-a million different clips! I had lots of the various push-type connectors for the inner wheel well, and the lower portion of the cover under the car, so that went well. All in all, it took me about 4 hours to have the old cover off, and repair the front of the car with a new wheel well and cover. Having the front of the car up on ramps made accessing the underside much easier, too.
Just an electric screwdriver.7 and 10 mm sockets and a panel popper. The 2 10 mm INSIDE of the inner fenders are difficult. ram a short 2X4 to spread the inner fender away from the fender to gain access.
Did you take the bumper off to change headlights too? I am putting in my e&g classic chrome grille. And also changing my lights since I'm already taking the bumper off.
I've been looking for a front bumper for my malibu that doesn't have the fog lights hole in it? Do you have any suggestions on where I could find a bumper like yours
I use rockauto.com for new parts. You would want one from a 2LT or LTZ. If you get one from a salvage yard. That would be less expensive if you can locate one nearby. Best of luck with it.
They don't have to, but it would make it easier to remove the lower screws, bolts and fasteners. I did it in my driveway because 99% of people do not have access to a lift, so I did it the way the average person would do it. Hope the video was helpful.
True story - My 99 Malibu needs a CV boot job and probably a rack & pinion, the car is 20 years old with 201k on it; safe to say economically speaking - it's curtains for it. Looked on Craigslist and a guy was selling a 2012. Turns out the lights were out, told him to call me when those are fixed, after watching this video I hope he doesn't call me back. Suddenly fixing the old 99 is not out of the realm of possibility.
I believe that should work. Try to get the same trim package as you have. There may be slight differences between trim packages. Mostly in lighting. Anyway. Thanks for watching and good luck with that.
but yeah awesome video man!! really appreciate it :) will be helpful next month when i replace my bumper hahaha, i was going too fast and slid rid off the road last year and cracked mine, damn icy roads -_-
You can probably pull the nose forward enough to get the headlight enclosure off. Even with a couplle of the underneath bolts still on. Best of luck with it.
Make sure the two top pieces by the headlight are snapped into place, and the wheel well plastic is on the outside of the steel fender, and not the inside. Also make sure the plastic underneath is not holding it back. good luck with it. Oh yeah.....once you get the studs through the holes put a nut on it right away or it may just pop back off.
You should use impact sockets, but in applications such as this with all relatively low torque values either impact or a regular socket will work fine. Hope this helps.
I changed the headlight bulbs and when i tried putting the cover back on it would go on all the it did before and im talking about the sides near the wheel well it looks bad but was such a pain in the ass i wouldnt click in
The cover has like ears that go below the headlights. if they are not in the right spot it will fit but it will not fit exactly right. Good luck with it.
Um. You will have to at least remove the plastic clips and 10mm bolt from inside the fenderwell and pull the bumper cover away from the fender so that it wont hold onto the fender. Best of luck with it.
Great video. What is the name of the part you are cleaning at 5:32? Whatever it is, mine came loose and is now dragging. Not sure if I should replace it or just take it off completely.
I'm not sure . I think you can get it out by just removing the upper panel, fan and hoses. mounting bolts etc. I am sure it would be easier with the nose off.Good luck with it.
lastmoto777 I can't find anything on front fender removal or replacement anywhere and I need to do that on top of the front bumper. Would you have anything or know of anything in regards to that?
It just unbolts. There will be plastic fasteners on the fender well and splash guard to remove also. good luck with it. Ps. when you remove it be careful not to scratch your door. Its easy to do.
If you are removing the nose you can just reach in and unplug them when it is most of the way dissembled, or you can disconnect the bumper cover from the splash guard plastic underneath and reach in and unplug it. Hope this helps.
What I use for little stuff like that is an impact driver with a 1/4 " socket end on it. The impact wrench might be a little strong for little stuff like this application. Hope that helps.
Shaquille Farrington I'm pretty sure the 2013 malabu is "part specific" which is a crock of shit! I hate this car. Looking for a video to remove the front bumper on the 13 malabu, this is all that comes up!
