Thanks for showing people how to change the pump. One thing is I noticed at the end of the video when you started it that the bottom fuel line clip had not been put in place. That will cause a major fuel leak and or fire. Also when you couldn’t get the top fuel line off, just use a flat head screwdriver where it connects to the top of the fuel pump under the edge of the hose and it will come off with ease and you can reuse it if it’s good. Thanks

I was disappointed that your video did not show mounting of the pump onto the engine. I've read that this is the trickiest part of the install, and if you get the actuating lever in wrong, the pump won't work and you might damage the engine. From my perspective I'd rather have you skip the story-telling at the beginning in order to spend more time on the final install. Just my opinion. Thanks.

I just changed the fuel pump in my J-D L110, looks like someone BENT your tab holder because mine was very close tolerance until I stretched it open. Works great since replacing it. Thanks.

Oh god…….as soon as I think rubber gas lines I think channel locks. Always break them loose while everything is rigid. I could t think of a thing this video presented that those offset long nose pliers would be good for. But it was a success, I guess .

I have a great tip- forget struggling with that oversized snap ring, just take a center punch or even a small Phillips head screwdriver, and push in one side of those tabs on the pump and it will open that collar up enough to get the fitting 75% in. then just push the fitting to it's fully seated position and the tab that you pushed in will pop out into the locked position. I had to discover this method because the snap ring they provided was rediculously oversized and not like yours, it was fully closed tabs of the ring touching which probably would have crushed the plastic pump with all that preload

replaced mine with a 10 dollar vacuum briggs pump,drill a hole in the oil filler tube for vacuum

What if you strip the 10mm bolts going into the engine? What can I do to fix this issue?

Snap ring pliers MIGHT be a GOOD CHOICE instead of ELBOW GREASE to push the tabs.

Hi Jeff - thanks a bunch for posting this video. I ordered an identical fuel pump kit that is arriving this afternoon; fortunately, I found & watched your video before I got my hands on the kit. I'm almost 100% certain that I would have struggled with, and F'd up, the hose barbs clips. I don't know whether or not the kit will contain instructions; but I'm male, which means that looking for/reading the instructions will occur ONLY after causing irreparable damage to new and critical parts. I'm located in southeastern PA. Because you're located in the Pacific northwest, on the opposite side of the US from me, will your installation steps work for me in their current sequence? Do I need to play the video backwards or watch it with the screen upside down or anything like that? I can't really grade you on your tree butchering. IIRC, most things are dead before (or are intended to die as a result of) butchering; however, your victim looks alive and only mildly pissed off by it's new haircut👍 Thanks again Jeff!

So you didn't use the gaskets that came with it? Did you just go with the new O ring? I have a troy built rider with that kholer engine and mine just dies out of nowhere. I most definitely think its the fuel pump. Excellent video! Just wish you would have shown how you just used the O ring instead of gaskets?

The rubber ring fits in the contour that you can just make out around 11:20, it matches the shape anyhow. And yes the gasket should be used, only the paper one, unless your old pump had a spacer on it then you use that one as well.

u ever figure this out? Mine wouldn't start at all, replaced fuel pump, now it shuts down after 20 or 30 minutes of mowing. No idea what's going on here.

@@waynefilkins8394 Yes I took mine to a mechanic and got it fixed. It was some type of switch he had to replace. Can't fully remember which switch. Been running great every since.

the hook that goes into the motor... does it go behind or in front of the push rod or what ever that shinny thing is in the motor you skipped over that part. i put my fuel pump in front of it and now my lawn mower seem to be getting to much fuel.

The arrows on the pump indicated wrong fuel flow direction. Did you have to flip the pump around?

@@jeffslawnmowerrepairandservice I turned the WHOLE PUMP around recently and it worked, lol! I am going to fix it back but I think the plunger is running off the balance shaft. Gonna flip the in and out part of the pump.

I did this and it ran for like 20 or 30 minutes then cut off. same thing the next day. Wouldn't run at all (without spraying gas directly into the intake) so this is an improvement, but odd that it cuts out 20 or 30 minutes (when it gets hot apparently) so my guess is something is overheating or something, maybe the new cheap chinese fuel pump can't take the heat or something idk. Anyone have any ideas I'm really stuck here. Heard some stuff about the Fuel Shut off solenoid so might be checking that out next.

check under the engine cover for a mouse nest. I had an engine that was doing this because it was overheating from a mouse nest.

yeah I know what you mean. I have been replacing alot of pumps. I can usually find new ones for $100.00 or less and it is fairly easy to replace.

Probsbly best to twist the hose off before unbolting the fuel pump. Once the hose is twisted off, then you can take the fuel pump off. And that snap ring NEVER works right! You spend hours trying to get that thing on those slots, you buy a snap ring tool, and it still can't be seporated. What's wrong with just simply putting your fittings in with either pipe dope, or teflon tape. Hey! Give it a kiss, which means, Keep It Simple, Stupid!
