I hope his explains it better for everyone on why IT DOESN'T BLEACH THE HAIR.
It is not the same as bleaching the hair at all. If it were, the hair would suffer the same effects by lightening several levels or more, there would be significantly noticeable disulfide bond breakage and protein reduction. The water in the shampoo is the biggest oxidant, which is not like using actual developer. It's about 80% shampoo, a total of about 20-40% water, depending on the shampoo 15% bleach powder and the rest oils. With bleaching, at a 1:1 ratio making a 5oz batch, you have a concentration of Bleach powder that is 50%, a much higher concentration of alkalizers and high pH reducing, bleaching agents. You also are releasing a much higher amount of oxygen, at a very rapid rate, which is the driving force behind bleaching.
