DIY on how to remove any non removable battery smartphone / mobile phone (Huawei Mate 10 in this case) glass back cover with a hairdryer, suction cup and a guitar pick. Do it yourself since it is so easy.
So if you attempt to do this for the first time with a smartphone I have a few tips: 1. The back cover is MADE to break when you try to open it. That's why it is made of glass on most phones. I wouldn't try it for the first time if I didn't have a spare back cover. Mine broke but I don't really care, since I have a case all the time. 2. Use the hair dryer all the time as you go around the back cover with the guitar pick. I would use something thinner next time. Use it before every single step. So at least 15 times to be safe. 3. The pick had to be inserted a lot deeper on my phone then I was left to believe, which got me quite confused as the cover was simply not falling off. Mine is OnePlus 7T.
@@ShermanChin... Your welcome mate, I found it very informative and easy to understand, im sure many more like me will also find it useful too. Thank you 👍🏻
Great video, makes it easy to understand. I'm not so used to these new phones but maybe 6 months ago now I smashed my galaxy A70 and I want to sell it because I have a new phone so I ordered a screen and some tools and will follow this. Saves a lot of money on buying a heat gun. I'm glad you can use just a hairdryer. Thanks for making this video!
You are very welcome! 😊 It is just a bit slower with a hairdryer compared to a heat gun because the heat is more dissipated but nothing a little little patience will not solve. 💪 I still wish they just make phones with removable backs like they used to. 🤬
@@ShermanChin agreed! I was doing local repairs between iPhone 4-5s era and even then it was quite simple. I mainly refurbish/fix laptops and computers which also just use screws and plastic latches and stuff but now everything is made very hard to repair so people will instead just buy a new device. Good to know about the hairdryer though! It's been a while since the phone broke and I only really care to fix it because I have some photos and messages etc on there I can't get otherwise :( I will let you know how it goes in about 2-3 weeks when the screen comes since it's coming from China :)))
@Slooby all the best with that screen replacement of yours! 💪 A pro tip is to check that the screen is working before screwing everything back in. I replaced the screen on my iPhone 5s with a one made from China but found out that the bottom part of the screen had its digitizer not detecting my touches at all. Had to take it all out again and ask for a refund. Such a pain. 😢
@@ShermanChin ahhhh that's so annoying what a shame. Always make sure to turn on device and check everything works before reassembling hahaha especially since now I have to glue the back on again with the double sided tape hahaha. Thanks my friend 😊 will let you know
@@Slooby thanks again and good luck! 💪 Make sure you have a strong suction cup to make the back removal fast and simple without cutting too deep with your pry tool along the edges of the back cover. 😊
Very good question! Yes, you do have to be fast. The adhesive will go back to being sticky again or else it will come off after the phone overheats many times. 😅
If you want it to stick and be somewhat water proof again, you need to buy a new layer of adhesive film to replace the old one. If not, just use the old layer as I did because it will still be a bit sticky.
@@ShermanChin I've got a new adhesive film for my phone, do I have to scratch off the original one or can I just put the new one on top of the original one?
Do you mean a screen protector, Wisnia? If you have a new screen protector, I recommend removing the old one first or the touch sensitivity will be diminished. If it is just a back, then it doesn't matter.
My Mate 10 took only about a minute before loosening but others might take longer depending on how strong the adhesive is. Just keep checking with your suction cup to see if any gap forms. Good luck! 😄
@@GUMTOON you are welcome but please be careful when cutting the glue with your pry tool after the gap has formed. Some phones have wires near the edges. Just check RU-vid teardown videos of your phone to see where the wires are located first.
