From www.kevincaron.com - Artist Kevin Caron shows an easy way to neatly get rid of the "strings" created when 3D printing ....
Kevin Caron is about to clean up a 3D-printed sculpture he just finished printing on his 8-foot-tall Cerberus 3D Gigante 3D printer.
The sculpture has some thin strings that go across where the 3D-printer print head was hopping from one side to the other as it was building the sculpture, so he wants to use his heat gun to get rid of them.
In case you don't know about heat guns, Kevin Caron shows his heat gun, which is from Drill Master (this is not a paid endorsement). It has 2 different settings on its toggle switch. Center is off, 1 way is high heat, the other is low heat.
Low heat works perfectly on PLA filament. Kevin Caron runs the heat over the sculpture, and it takes just moments to remove the strings. He just has to give it a little "bath." Maybe you can see the little strings just shrivel up and disappear.
Just that quick, it's done. Now Kevin Caron can go put the sculpture on its pedestal and get it glued in place.
Now you have time to see more of his amazing sculpture at www.kevincaron.com .
Well, you might want to wait a moment to see him get pointers - or is it give them ....
Artist Kevin Caron has been sculpting full time since 2006. See - and hear - his amazing metal and large format 3D-printed sculptures, which are found in public and private places coast-to-coast and online at www.kevincaron.com.

Hey Kevin. I don't have a 3 D printer to make something like you did, but I wanted to drop over and show my support for your channel. It is a nice sculpture for sure. Thanks for sharing.🍁👍👍

Nice sculpture Kevin! I live in Phoenix too! I’m 54 yrs and have an electrical background and I’m looking to get into TIG welding - do you recommend a ‘hands on’ class through Vern Lewis or do you feel I could learn this through online videos? Any recommendations would be helpful. Thx!

A hands on class is always great. You will learn alot I am sure. Just keep in mind that I do one on one classes as well. Or just stop by the studio and I can show you how to get started. My contact info is on my website, www.kevincaron.com Thank you for watching and posting.

I would be very interested to know what software you used to model the sculpture. I like the way the complex curves flow around the work.

That was done with Rhino cad.

Very useful video. Which heat level should bè used for this without deform the printed part?

Low heat works great. Just a plain dryer works as well.

Hi kevin, i'm wanting to try mig brazing, i've been mig welding in general for 20 odd years so i know the basics etc but my main question is are there any specific mig torches for mig brazing with 0.8mm silicon bronze wire. i ask this because someone mentioned that a shorter torch hose length is better because the copper wire is softer and easier to birds nest and jam than regular steel i'm looking at mig brazing rather than tig brazing at this time yes i know the gas is pure vs mixed for regular

Does this also help smooth the surface?
@KevincaronSculpture

If I hold it still for more than a few seconds it will melt the surface!

What material was used to print this?

That was a translucent PLA filament
