Ry as long as the headliner is out buy a roll of the Reflective bubble insulation. I used 3M 777 spray adhesive and sprayed the insulation then stuck on the ceiling. It helps keep cooler in the summer and repels any heat loss in the winter. Also good for sounddeadening. It made a huge difference in my 98 Grand Cherokee.
I did that as well and it really does help with noise and temperature control. Also take the time to check the rivnuts for the roof rack. Getting the headliner off is half the work on that job. If the rivnuts are spinning you can hold them with pliers from below and drill them out. I bought an 07 that had some spinning rivnuts. I had to open up the holes and put in slightly larger rivnuts. Then make sure you replace the rubber washers and seal it up properly when you reinstall.
😂 Love your commentary. It's so perfect for me when I am trying to do these things to my X. Thank you, man!! I hope you and your +1 are having great travels together. 🙌🏼
Dang dude, fantastic video! Can't believe ive been watching you for 3 years now (since i got my Xterra). Never really checked out your channel, except when i needed something.. now im watching for fun and theres a ton of amazing info! I love how you added those extra LEDs. Such a big difference. Keep up the great work! 👍
Thanks man! I just checked out your channel and its great! I love seeing more guys working on Xterras. You make me feel like I need to do a lot more shorts. :D
You keep making videos giving me stuff to do! I just finished up the timing chains, valve covers and full tune up last weekend. Charcoal can today to hopefully take care of the rough idle/evap leak code
@Ry the car guy my Cummins needs love, but the wife keeps adding things to the list haha. You ever ran into that rough idle evap leak code stuff? I smoke tested the system to no avail, and didn't find any broken hoses. And it already has new solenoids. The can was the last link
Geez, that was easy. Half of the rivnuts holding the top rack spun and I need to replace them, dreaded this job but this is really really easy.. Add sound insulation too
Yeah to be honest taking it out was a heck of a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. Most cars make it very complicated. Yeah you're right I really should have added some insulation. Would have helped with road noise and heat. As far as the riv nuts go, I'm not touching those things till I need to lol
Ry, good stuff. I'm only about halfway there as far as all the mods I'm doing to my '13 Xterra. 😉 Photo's to come. What I found for the rivnuts on mine - had 3 on the driver's side were cross threaded. 1 over the driver's seat belt, 2 in the far rear. Ended up putting a gasket sealer and a 10mm nut when putting the rack back on. Will repair / replace when it gets repainted.
Nissans have terribly weak lighting - we own a 1996 Nissan Altima. One thing you can do instead of this is to get an LED circuit card on ebay that replaces the 15w super-weak bulb. Our circuit card has 16 LEDs and I just soldered it into the dome ceiling panel since the LEDs are expected to outlast the lifetime of the car. It cost me $10 and i didn't have to remove the headliner :-). However, THANK YOU for this video because the cloth on my headliner has now fallen (car is 26 yrs old, headliner failed after 20Y parked outdoors), so now I DO have to remove the headliner. Your removal is much, much more difficult than mine because I doubt there is much in the way of fluids or electrical routed through a passenger car headliner :-). If your headliner is more than 15Y old such as on this xTerra you should probably remove the cloth and replace it with new foam & cloth if you work on the headliner AT ALL. Soon all the foam will split and no amount of glue will be able to fix the problem without new foam & cloth.
I had a window replacement on my Nissan xterra 05 and the rear view mirror had the digital compass, they guys either cut it or unplugged it somehow. This hopefully helps check.
I need to install a forward overhead light over the drivers/front passengers seats. Since some did not come with that. (2010 Xterra) I noticed that hang down bracket that your front overhead lights snaps into. I just wonder if that bracket is there on models that didn't come with the front overhead light? I'd hate to cut a hole into that headliner only to find out there's no bracket up there. And then I'd have to pull the headliner and find one somewhere to install it.
Another well done project .. But what the hell nice weather man.. thats not fair lol and I'm here with lots of layers in me need to do some electrical work but even cables are all frozen lol 😆 oh well show must go on
@Ry the car guy haha! no wonder you moved ! I need to move from this place too lol.... I dislike winter , anyhow 1 project done with just minor finger tip frostbites LOL😆 will leave 2nd electrical project for next weeked.. not like the weather will be any better but w/e lol
Hi Ry! Soooo what did ya use to clean the headliner fabric with? Jw. Mine has a mess above I’d like to hit buuuut don’t want spots where I try to clean spots from cleaners. Lol. Thought to ask ya. Thanks 😊
ty! i was wondering how to take the head liner off I wanted to change the color to match the dark charcoal color some of my body panels are. and also in case I finally decide to get an aftermarket roof rack.
YW! Thank you for your comment. I was hoping this is how people would receive this video. It's not so much about the headliner as it is about the things you can do to your SUV once the headliner is out.
You mentioned that someone said their Xterra didn't come with those cargo clips in the back. I have one better, I don't have those or a Map Light above the drivers seat. The two lights in the rear of the vehicle are there but the map light above the driver and passenger seats is missing the metal bracket isn't even there. Thank you for the video on how to remove this headliner because I may be running to a junk yard for the bracket and a light assembly and see if I can just tap into the rear overhead lights. But yeah my X didn't even have a map light standard, plus its a 2010, I'd think it should have been standard. Either way I got a pretty good deal on it for its condition and milage so I'm happy. To fix the problem I've just wrapped a LED headlamp over the sun visor that I can click on and off when needed.
@@Rythecarguy Yep I have both! Just yesterday I installed a remote start system that uses the factory keyfob but still haven't found a better solution for the map lights other than my headlamp or taking the whole thing out to add the LED disks like you did.
Man I wanna say I found you right before I bought my xterra, I have a red 05 and we had the same timing chain problem, I got that fixed and I just tuned up my engine, changed the plugs, put a new idler pulley, tensioner pulley and a new serpentine belt on, its running so great right now I love it and these videos, you do awesome work and some pretty good impressions of Scotty and Chris 😂 one question though, do you have a name for your xterra, I named mine Clifford
Hey Ry, I have a question since you removed your headliner. On the driver's side is it possible to install a grab handle like the one on the passenger side above the window? Thank you
Mine didn't have the brackets for a stock handle but he does have a metal plate up there that you might be able to do something with an aftermarket handle.
No, I do not have side airbag. If you do that remove the negative battery cable from your battery and wait 10 minutes before working in areas with airbag. And just be careful.
Unfortunately I do not. I'm sorry. We have the LCA video on the Titan which would be similar but not exact. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-07pWqLcvJtc.html
I just realized how mean this comment sounded, I love how the lights look, they're really neat looking at night, but just for a more cohesive look during the daytime, matching black lined lights would look clean
You're very nice to say that Nicole. I didn't take your comment that way. I like the suggestion. If it didn't require pint matching I would have liked to do it the other way around where I paint the black color tan.
@@Rythecarguy Matching tan would be just as clean!! Love your videos, I've been getting more motivation to get working on my 04 xterra lately because of them!
Help fellow friends! I am having an issue with my 06 Xterra Rear Driver Side Door not wanting to open when unlocked. Now I had this issue and then all of a sudden it started to open again. Unfortunately, the issue came back, and now it won’t open. Anyone have an idea on how to fix this?
