This video is a simple how to for removing the stock stereo in a 2009 Hyundai Sonata. Please ask any questions in the comments below and thumbs up if this helped you.
Thanks so much! My husband was so thankful to be able to see and followed perfectly. It was straight forward and simple to follow. Used (but looks like new) 2009 exact radio/CD purchased on ebay slid right in and works fantastic! His only comment, should have used his magnetic screwdriver like you said, lost a screw, but found a replacement. ;)
Thanks for the video - best one I've seen for replacing the radio in the 2009 / 2010 Sonata. One thing I did differently - for the clock, you can remove the two screws on the back that hold it onto the dash panel, that way you don't have to mess with the connectors. I left all of the connectors in place - I just removed the clock and let the dash panel down gently to rest the top of it on the large open compartment lid or on the stick shift.
My man! Thank you so much for the tip! I was also able to remove it without worrying about the shift knob. This is the best video I’ve seen for radio removal for a 2009, 2010 Sonata.
Thanks a ton for posting this. Had to replace my radio as it started loosing it's memory and eating cd's. Took less than half an hour and no broken parts. Thanks to you.
Thanks for the tips! Worked like a charm. The edge of the plugs on the back of the radio come out more easily with a flathead, fyi; they were hurting my fingers, too. I had to use a socket to break loose the 4 screws holding the radio in.
I realize this was posted a long time ago, but nice video and thanks for taking the time to show how it is done. My 2009 is the "limited" version with the Infinity GPS system. I just purchased a replacement double-din unit (JVC) since the stock Infinity O/S became corrupted and it is no longer covered under warranty - of course! I will be tackling this project in a few days when the new GPS audio unit arrives from Crutchfield. Your video gives me a great insight as to what I will be facing...and how to do it. Thanks!!
Very helpful! After taking my stereo out using this video, let me offer the following suggestions: 1) Instead of removing the top of the shifter, you can move it down to "D" and out of the way by opening the little tab to the upper left of the shifter and inserting a screwdriver in. This allows the transmission to be moved out of Park without having the engine on or keys in the ignition. Just be sure to have the parking brake set! 2) The rear connector that you were having problems with is unlike all the others (who knows why). You have to take the top tab, and instead of pushing it down, push it IN and then pull the entire connector out. After re-inserting the connector, push the top tab OUT to secure it. (FYI - It's been a while since I took the stereo out; I might have the tab directions reversed)
Thank you for posting...I thought I could just change the CD player, but I see I have to change the entire unit. I will be tackling this over the summer...can you post pics of the work that was done to hook up the system or Bazooka Tube (wth is that for...lol)
Is there another. Video where you finish installing the wiring? I am literally doing the exact same thing to my wife's car. 09 sonata installing bazooka tube lol. Thanks so much for this video, this will save me $85 to have a professional install it
Sorry for the late reply. Don't at this time, but look above at the comments where I purchased the wiring. Had the hardest time trying to understand what wires did what, being a Hyundai. I can take a picture of the wiring diagram if you wish.
Do you have any video with how to plug bass tube? Its first time for me to plug it to serial radio. There is not much Sonata here in Poland, especialy with this interior, so you're my last hope to do this properly. :) Plizzzz help.
