I show you how to remove vanity tops in this video. Specifically, I am removing a single sink, then a double sink cultured marble top.

Hi - I am removing a 78 inch long cultured marble vanity top today and I have a suggestion, for getting the side splashes off use a vibrating multi-tool that has about a 1 - 1 1/2 flat blade that has a serrated edge on the front. The blade is offset at a 90 degree angle so it is flush against the wall and it cuts by vibrating and goes through the dry hardened caulk like soft butter and then the side splashes just fall off unless there was adhesive was used in the middle of the splash. But it still makes the job 10X easier with much less damage to the drywall .

Thank you so much. Will attempt to take my double vanity out to save money. Quartz countertop people charging me $9 a square ft to remove the top. Now will look to see if you have a video on removing granite countertops in the kitchen, because that will save me a huge chunk of change.
@AroundTheHome1
@AroundTheHome1 2 года назад
The granite is very similar to the cultured marble. It should be attached the same way. It's just way heavier. I mean it's heavy AF! You can lift a section and hit it with a sledge like I did here, but for the love of God, please be carful. Because like I said earlier, its heavy AF! Now I have lots of videos that help out with removing the tile backsplash, installing new undercabinet lights, installing a new tile backsplash, and so on. Check them out on my website www.aroundthehome.org/ Here is our kitchen page that should help you out a lot. www.aroundthehome.org/kitchens.html
@Graydoggal

I really appreciate the response. If i feel out of my depth in the kitchen I’ll definitely get the quartz company to do it. I’ll see how I do with the master bathroom marble countertop first. It’s wall to wall so I’m going to have to hit it to split it.
@AroundTheHome1
@AroundTheHome1 2 года назад
Oh, and if you do decide to crack the granite, I would probably lift it enough to put a small board under it. Putting it preferably in-between two cabinets where there is strength. Then when you set the granite back down it will crack easily over the board.
@Graydoggal
@Graydoggal 2 года назад
I just finished taking out the double vanity in my master bath by myself. Took me about an hour as I wanted to take my time and try not to cause too much damage and I did it. I followed your video to the tea and I did have to hammer to crack the vanity down the middle. The money I saved in removing it myself means I can now afford quartz side splashes and nicer vessel sinks. I do feel out of my depth doing the kitchen so I am going to pay the professionals to remove all the granite. Thanks once again for making the video.

@AroundTheHome1
@AroundTheHome1 2 года назад
Andrea, thanks for watching and for your question. I don't have a video of the top install because this was being handled by the granite company. Now, if you have bought a premade granite, quartz, or cultured marble top that you are installing yourself it's pretty simple. You can do it in two ways. Some installers like to add the silicone to the top of the vanity and then set the top down. And other just set the top down and caulk were the top and the vanity meet. With the weight of the vanity top, either method I have found works just fine. I hope that helps. Good luck with your project. 👍 So glad to help! Thank you for watching. @AroundTheHome1
@AroundTheHome1 3 месяца назад
Well because the customer ordered granite tops. You might be able to get the top loose enough to slide forward enough to get out from under the mirror. That all depends on how much glue / caulk was used to set the top. Many times I have had to remove the mirror first though. Sorry that all my stuff is easy. 😥

Thanks so much for showing this. I worry so much the mirror is going to break. How can you tell if the faucet or the sink can be reused before demolation?
@AroundTheHome1
@AroundTheHome1 2 года назад
Thanks for stopping by. Yes, the mirror is a concern but it can be done. As long as it was not caulked to the top. If that has been done, the chances of cutting it completely apart are low. And I am afraid that all I can do is wish you luck and tell you to be careful. If one of those big mirrors break, they break off in large, sharp pieces. So if you are having troubles separating the top from the mirror, wear leather gloves and eye protection. As far as your other question, cultured marble doesn't rot so as long as it doesn't crack in the removal you can reuse it. Now if your top isn't cultured marble, maybe a formica top with a drop in sink you can always get under the sink and look for any rot or water damage. You also can check the faucet from under there to see if there is rust or corrosion. It is of course better and easier to check this out once the top is off and you can look it over. I hope that this answers your questions and good luck with your project. Also, I think I just made you more scared of that mirror. Sorry.

So you don't remove the sink faucets first? I'm doing a cosmetic remodel on my bathroom (paint and counters) and I've never done any of this before. I want to save and re-use the current faucet. Do they come out easily?
@AroundTheHome1
@AroundTheHome1 3 года назад
There are a lot of variables with your question. If I was saving the faucets, I don't know that I would split a top with a hammer. But lets assume that you don't have to split the top. If you can carefully remove the top, It will be much easier to remove the faucet. Removing the faucet can be semi easy to really hard. That depends on what tools you have, what kind of mount it used, and how much rust / corrosion is there now. In this video I was not saving the faucets, but If I was, I would still prefer to take the top off first and get it somewhere I could work on it. Hopefully that answers your questions.

Matt, thanks for your question. It is a possibility. The mirror should not be supported by the top, but not everything is done the correct way. It is probably just sitting against the top, and not being supported by it. So, there is a channel on the bottom of it, but nothing on the topside?

I am not sure mine is cultured marble (it's like a builders grade top) however I definitely will have to break it as its built-in between two drywalls with part of it probably sticking around a 1/4 inch into the drywall (the top is probably close to 37 while the space between the walls is closer to 36.5). What if my top is tile?
@AroundTheHome1
@AroundTheHome1 4 года назад
Then you have a lot more work. You may or may not have to chip the tile up. Most of the time you have a sheet of plywood, then a sheet of cement board, then the tile. Depending on if the plywood is nailed down into the cabinet, or if it is screwed. I have even seen nailed and glued or screwed and glued. That is crazy and if that is what you have then may God have mercy upon your soul. If it is just nailed down then you can pry the whole thing off as one. But if it is screwed, then you will have to chip off the tile and cement board and try to reach the screws so that you do not destroy the cabinet while taking off the top. And if it is also glued, then you are just screwed. Expect some cabinet repair. Hope that helps some. Thank you for watching. Check out hundreds more of our videos at www.aroundthehome.org

Why not put that marble on freecycle instead of destroying it. What a waste!
@AroundTheHome1
@AroundTheHome1 2 года назад
I will tell you why. Because no one wants it. When I first started doing a lot of countertop jobs I took it to Habitat, Good Will, Thrift Stores, and listed it online. No one wanted it. And it's cultured marble, not marble. I literally couldn't give it away, and there was no way that I was going to start storing them at my own home. I had a few customers that got upset about just throwing them away, and the tile for the backsplash. They wanted to know why I didn't keep the old tile. I told all of them that I would gladly put the old materials in their garage so that they could donate it or reuse it. You want to know how many people did that? None, that's how many. Now if they were changing out a piece of granite some were happy to try and repurpose it, but not the vanity tops nor the old tile and left over tile. They just expected me to magically take care of it in a way that was not throwing it away.
