Such a great series of videos, couldn't have tackled this job without! Not sure if its been mentioned but if the old mirror is broken and won't be reused, you can cut the wires at the old mirror and attach the new mirror wire plug to the cut end and then pull the wire out the bottom bringing the new harness with it. Worked like a charm. Thank you for taking the time to make these.

Thanks very much for this video. It was very helpful for my project. For others, when you are installing the mirror assembly again, if you find it very tough for it to fit under the weather stripping, use the trim tool that has a forked end (like a crowbar). With one prong under the weather stripping and another prong over it, pry in a rocking motion. Then the stripping should go over the assembly eventually.

Good idea with the plug! You should do an install video of the wing mirrors since it is pretty tricky to install properly and to get top grove under rubber door trim

Excellent instructions on removal, worked like a charm. However, when it came to install the new mirror, I was unable to get it to fit under the top grove of the rubber door trim. Based on the tip below, I purchased a plastic trim tool and getting the top groove of the weather stripping to slide over the mirror bracket was a breeze! Afterwards the drivers door did not have power and I figured out I put the power plug in backwards. Perhaps a result of the right hand drive in the video? :-)

Bought a used replacement mirror as fold hinge bracket broke on mine. OEM on my base A4 has motorized fold and I assume auto dim for some reason. IDK how to even work the motorized fold. Replacement does not so pulled harness out of it thinking could just swap but now will have to try to use press to compress spring to remove the C-clip from fold hings so I can swap the inner metal mounting bracket that broke. Harness on new mirror was cut so had to swap but this is becoming more work than had expected.

Sounds like you're having a nightmare!! The best bet, sorry to say, is to ensure the spec on the new mirror you are buying matches the spec you had. So if you hadc electric fold, for example, ensure that the new mirrors came out of a car with electric fold. This generally saves a lot of headaches. Question? once enough slack is acquired on the cable, wouldn't it be easier to splice the cable from old and new unit and solder or join together with twist ties, electricians tape etc? Is it possible? in order to avoid the removal and rerouting of the cable? Thank you

Hey there! Yes, absolutely that would be possible. However, it must be sealed up properly otherwise could be subject to rust issues. Maybe attach a string to the end of the old connector before pulling it out to use later on fishing the new wire in.

Why didn't Audi just put the connector at the top as a wing mirror is a likely fix? Absolutely stupid idea. Ive got one of these and a mirror to change.....damn! 🤣 thanks for the demo guys! 👍

Hey there! Glad you are enjoying the vid's :-) Yes, it is a stupid design. Many Audi's do indeed have a connector at the top inside in the car behind the cover, which make removal/replacement SO much easier! Sure they have saved some money but reducing one plug and one socket, and one loom per car. Which probably adds to to a lot when you are talking hundreds of thousands of cars, but really!!!??!!?
