Thank you for such a good video clear, and easy, points that were clear to me, make sure car is level (to drain as much as posible and have a good refill level), remove tire (makes easy to reach the refill orifice), measure how much oil you remove to be close at refill. Thank you for tip in making dip stick. Great job, I ended up buying the Haynes Manual, excellent material. Thanks again.

Thanks for this. A couple of findings on my 2019 2.4. 1. With a shop light right behind the center of the engine cover, pointing down, and your left knee over the trim fastener that lies on plastic trim, between the pressed jeep symbol and the coolant tank, (i used a 3 step ladder to get there), you have a perfect top-down view, and easy in and out access for the dipstick measurements. Way better than coming in from the side. 2. According to the video I was high by a quart this entire time (90k). Took nearly a perfect 4 quarts out. Put 3 in, right at 16mm 122 F. This makes me doubt the chart in the video, but I will get a backup source for it. 3. After making the wire dipstick, i wrapped it tightly with blue painter's tape. (1 strip up and down, wrap tightly and adhere to itself on one side, cut off the excess) This is a one time only, as you wouldnt want to risk putting tape in there, but it will display CLEARLY the exact fluid level.

For 50°C is nominal level at 26mm, thats 10mm more. So I just refill the same amount of oil as I drained. I believe that all the temperature/level charts on internet are wrong.

It depends on the manufacturer and the type of transmission. They are all different. For this one on a jeep FCA says lifetime which is until it blows up. The manufacturer says 150,000 km which is 93K. Honda, which has a similar transmission and uses his fluid says 60 K. I’m going with 50k because the factory Mopar fluid is semi synthetic and on the label it says Shake well before using!

Video says transaxle but description says transmission, well which is it..... Then instead of measuring fluid after draining how about measure the fluid level first before the draining. The only good idea is the coat-hanger dip-stick providing 140mm is correct length but then you fail to mention how far up on dipstick the fluid suppose to be, and how does fresh fluid get that hot so quick by that chart,,, and then the Jeep wasn't on level ground to begin with, I find this video vary vague on details.....
@sbond1963
@sbond1963 Год назад
Yeah, that name is misleading. It’s known as a trans axle when the axles connect directly to the transmission. It’s known as a transmission when the wheels are connected using a driveshaft. In this case, it’s both if you have 4WD. The 140 MM dipstick is available everywhere. I got one off eBay. Checking level is like anything else. The vehicle needs to be level. I use ramps in the back and jacks in the front so I can get to it. It’s mostly a measuring game but if you want to be sure, use the temperature chart and the dipstick. Otherwise it’s a straightforward, drain and fill and you don’t have to worry about the vehicle being level.

Where's the dipstick? No dipstick is needed. Until you change the fluid, then you have to buy a dipstick. WTF Also what's this crap of not giving out fluid amounts? TOTAL fill is 6.3 Quarts or 6 Liters. Lastly don't ever do what the guy in the video does at 5:14, putting his feet under the tire to hold it while screwing the bolts in. A tool comes with the jack kit in the rear that screws in the wheel hub and allows a person to hang the tire on the hub to position it and insert a lug bolt.

einstien, you can not drain all of the fluid at 1 time unless you pull the trans out of the car. Only 3 3/4 quarts will drain out. Transmissions have a torque converter that holds 3 quarts of fluid and it can not be drained in the car unless you want to burn up the trans.

Folks just a heads up on the Chrysler 9 speed automatic transmission. This fluid dose not need to be changed on a regular interval. This fluid is serviced for the LIFE of the vehicle . NO SERVICE IS NEEDED................ If a shop is telling you that need a transmission service walk out and never go back to that shop.. Unless you are having internal problems with this transmission or its leaking.
@bobicus

there is no such thing as lifetime fluid. the Chrysler techs will tell you lifetime means approximately 100k miles. thanks for being loud and wrong
@sbond1963
@sbond1963 Год назад
What you’re not considering is the manufacturers definition of lifetime. For example, BMW lifetime is 100K. Chrysler? ZF, the manufacture of this transmission specifies changing the fluid in this transmission at 150,000 kilometers which is a little under 100K miles. So that must be Chrysler’s definition of a lifetime. And honestly owning a jeep Cherokee 100K is definitely a lifetime. Unlike my other vehicles that can go 3x that

You gotta listen to the words…”The transmission fluid is good for the lifetime of the transmission”……if you never change the fluid then you will never get more than 100k miles without problems, servicing the transmission EXTENDS THE LIFETIME of the transmission, so no, the fluid is not good for the lifetime of the trans, change the fluid at least every 60 to 70k miles and you’ll be good
