hello! may i ask if it is possible for foreigners to rent a car through ctrip? it does not seem to have an option for foreigners not from china/hk/macau/taiwan.
What about the insurance? You selected some cheaper silver package instead of gold or similar. What are the excess limits, what is not covered and what should you think about in order to avoid any unwanted costs? What about deposits, especially for nicer cars they seem to range 5-10k RMB?
Hi there! for insurance I chose the cheapest silver package because it actually covers everything in an accident, the only difference between silver and gold is gold also covers the so-called "depreciation" fee and also "outage fee". Which usually is not much. And also as long as you have experience driving, and drive safely here, it is very rare to have an accident, especially when renting for only 1-2 days. If you do rent for more than a week or so, i do recommend you getting the gold insurance package, though it may cost you way more. Also for deposits, if you're staying in china and have alipay, you can get a credit rating score, and usually if u have credit rating score of more than 550~650 you can enjoy renting a car with no deposits.On the other hand, if you don't have it, then yes it will cost you more for nicer fancier cars. :D If you have any other problems, feel free to chat us up!
Hi there! yes, you do need a temp chinese drivers license or a permanent driving license if you decide to rent a car here. It is required by the car rental place, you can go to the local DMV to apply for a temporary drivers license, just bring a notarized translation for your drivers license to the DMV and apply for a temporary drivers license, you can also watch our other video about hw to apply drivers license for more info!
