This video transported me back to when I was a small boy in Liverpool watching my farther in his workshop working his magic.A. french polisher, what an artist. Like most true artist he never bragged about it ,unlike some ,I’ll say no more.

Bose isn't poor quality.... The professor was an extraordinary talent. He has so many amazing patents including noise cancelling which was first used in military jets... His work on getting an extra octave from a small enclosure is fascinating. He had a course at MIT on RU-vid, I hope its still there.. Granted they are mostly not Hi-fi in the strictest sense, though the 901s can sure sound wonderful. Professor Bose, He WAS quality. Enjoyed that, The system looks nice. I've been in audio for over 40 years...Just like you, with your wood, there isn't much.... etc... 🤠

Cant fault the result Ian, my old dad among many things was a French polisher your use of the rubber was a joy to see, no stiction, dad used to use coloured very hard wax and a French shellac the resin polish was new to me

Really good job! You wont notice the fix unless you know that it's there and look closely. I have a similar fixup to do, but the cabinet is matte black, so in terms of color, should be a bit easier. Thanks for the video!

Great job, I often see damaged speakers and wonder how they could be repaired on eBay. I guess it's only practical if you have all those materials available to you. Brilliant video thanks I enjoyed.

PS Like many here I had just picked up some really tatty KEFs. T27, B200 and ABR sound absolutely wonderful, as all KEFs from that era do. My fave ever tweeter after the Quads ESL and Maggie ribbon... I'm wondering how to proceed restoring them..

Thank you for demonstrating the process. I have a set of NS-690's that have lived a very rough life. Still sound great after an overhaul. I am now going to get after the cabinets. Would wood filler help fill dings on flats or would you stick with the bondo method. I have also seen sawdust and wood glue. I like yourself love hifi...my main issue is I cannot stop buying and overhauling it. Im addicted to saving it.

A tip: If you have any damage to the mdf that makes you pause due to the mdf being kind of weak and crumbly-don’t just stick bondo in it and hope for the best. First use either a wood hardener-they have specific products for This, which work fine-or, just use super glue. Cyanoacrylate works really well to secure those soft spots in your mdf. If you don’t want to wait forever for it to dry, pickup some CA glue activator spray, which will instantly cure your CA your for you. Super glue + activator can be used for 1000’s of different projects and having it on hand is incredibly handy. Bonus tip-CA glue can actually be used as a very nice finish surface as well. It can be polished to a very glossy, very hard and durable surface. Cheers!

I have a 1900’s harmonium and there are two what appear to be hammer hits on the French polish walnut finish. In/down 1/16”. Can they be pulled up/out please?

Hello, yes, you will need to steam them out, but you will probably need to repolish the area after. Get some cotton wool & wet it with water, put it over the dent & then get the tip of a hot iron & press it down on the cotton wool, you will see steam, you might need to repeat the process several times, to raise the dent, thanks for commenting & watching good luck 👍
