I’m a 64 year old woman with non draining dishwasher on a holiday weekend. Found this - looked exactly like mine. Took me awhile as I am NOT a DIYer, and not much confidence but MIRACLE OF MIRACLES, it fixed it!! Thank you so very much! PS my knees will never be the same..🤷‍♀️

OMG thank you so much for this video!! I'm a 14 teen year old and i have my chores, one of them is cleaning dishes! I absolutely HATE hand washing the dishes so the washer machine is a precious angel to me. When it stopped working i was mortified. I watched this video and followed all the steps, i ended up finding one of those tubby things deep down was clogged with food! I cleared it out and put it all back together, no more leaks! Determination to not wash dishes can sure get you far xD THANK YOU SO MUCH

Thank you! I'm a 54-year old woman and have never worked on a dishwasher before, but I am the family handyperson. Your video guided me beautifully through the steps I needed to take and the tools I needed to use to clean my dishwasher. Mine was really gross compared to the one in your video. I'm running it now and hoping the problem is solved. If not, I know you have other videos. Thanks!

I’m a 68 year old woman and my dishwasher is 18 years old. I was grossed out by the amount of gunk under that last big screen you take off the bottom! My dad was a plumber though so I preserved. Mine was not this exact model so I’m hoping that flap thing is back on right as it was off when I pulled that basket out. If not, I’ll be taking it all apart to turn it around!

My hero! My husband said he couldn’t figure out how to get the screen out of the bottom. So I came here, watched the video, and figured it out for myself. Easy! And now I can teach him so he can clean it next time. 😁

This was straightforward and clear without any fluff or filler, and showed all of the important steps. It let me fix something stuck in the impeller without a service call, and my dishwasher is now also cleaner than it ever has been. Thanks!

I am a 74 yr old lady who is on a fixed income and can't afford a plumber. I am willing to try any 'fix it' because of financial reasons. I took my dishwasher apart step by step, cleaned it and put it all back together. Hardest part was getting up and down :) Not the draining problem but boy did it get a good cleaning. Thanks for the video. On to tackle the drain hose...

Great help thanks! Was able to take apart easily and get it clean. I'll also add that if you reach your hand into the sump hole in the back once that basket is out and reach towards the center of the washer you'll find a small impeller blade on a shaft. Mine had all sorts of crap wrapped around it. It was a bit difficult and hard to clean but half the gunk I cleaned out came from that opening. I'll also add to make sure ALL the holes on the sprayer arms are clean. Not only won't it spray well but I believe it's also what propels the arms to spin. Especially the arm beneath the upper rack. There are holes on the underside and very tip that look to be for this very purpose. I took it off the rack and cleaned under sink with a bent paper clip.

March 2020 Thank you so much for this video. My son always says "Mom always check RU-vid, they fix everything." Water was not draining out of the dishwasher and in the last load I even had 2 small puddles of water and suds on the floor. I thought it might be a clogged filter, but didn't really have any way of checking or how to take it apart. I found your video with the same washer that I have and that helped to watch your video and the step by step directions. Usually, I would call a repair person, but I am staying in my home and I don't want a stranger coming in due to the COVID 19 virus. I am well, but i'm in the older group of people who will be safer if we don't go outside or be around other people until the time has passed. I'm so pround of myself, I took pictures at each stage of repair/filter cleaning and have now run one load of dishes (after testing with a rinse cycle) and no puddles! You saved me money and the stress of having someone come in the house that may not be totally healthy...plus I'm very proud of myself, at 73 years old I fixed a major appliance...with your help. Thank you.

This Worked!!!! I am in my mid 60's and agree with the earlier comment, hardest part was up and down with my broken foot. The angles were a challenge too but I managed and so happy with the result. I had trouble unscrewing some parts with weakish hands so I cut a piece off of an old yoga mat. WORKED GREAT! Loved channeling my very handy do-it-yourself father! He taught me well and so did you, Adam I can't find the support button.

You just saved me a lot imminent time and trouble. The course filter was disgusting and the sump filter had quite a bit of crap on it, but the sump was fortunately clear. I never gave any thought to the dishwasher until recently, and with this knowledge will ad it to my list of household maintenance duties once a year (quite frequent since it has been 13 years untouched since it was installed). Thanks again.

Adam: Great job. One thing I thought might be helpful to other DIYers: my 2009 Quiet Power 3 underwent a change in the value flapper system. I was searching for the one you showed. I was concerned that mine had "disappeared" at some point. My model has three in the motor and no longer has the external flapper as in your machine. Thanks for a very helpful video. It's nice to be able to reef on the hub nut, knowing that it will come off with the right amount of pressure. Having a few decades worth of disassemble experience, I HATE cranking on a fastener if I'm not sure it actually is supposed to come off the way it appears. Keep those vids coming.

I am so glad I found this video! I had standing water in the bottom of the dishwasher and had no idea on how to fix it. This walked me through step by step and after only a half hour, the dishwasher was working perfectly. I'm embarrased to say that after owning my dishwasher for 13 years I had never taken it apart to clean. It was disgusting! Glad I was able to fix it myself without having to call a plumber. I did break the clips for the top rack as they were old and brittle so I ordered new ones on Amazon. I also am investing in a new fine filter since I couldn't take the old one apart to completely clean.

Thank you Andy for the clear and thorough steps. This solved my problem is there was something lodged against the rubber flap. The parts that were dismantled needed a proper cleaning as well. I appreciate your helpfulness, kind sir!

Great tutorial. Quick potential shortcut for those tackling the drain hose. Almost all GE units drain upwards (hence the drain pump). There are two valves that prevent backflow on most machines. One immediately inside the sump where the drain motor connects to the unit and one at the lower elbow on the exterior drain line. Both are the first to clog and/or fail...allowing "pumped out" water to drain back into the unit. Check these small "redish" rubber valves to ensure they are not torn, worn or otherwise clogged with debris. The one at the sump can be visually inspected from inside the dishwasher. The in-line valve is sandwiched between two plastic fittings in the drain line itself.

Great video! This was a huge help in identifying the problem in my dishwasher. While I was inspecting the sump I noticed that it looked like the rubber was degrading. I am curious if using tablets containing bleach caused this issue? My question, can you replace that sump, and if so, how much work is involved? My unit is a little more than 8 years old. Thanks!!

My dishwasher was making a knocking sound ever since we moved into the house - I didn't see anything out of whack except perhaps the lower spray arm hitting something but the dishwasher was working well. Suddenly the knocking stopped and I knew something was wrong. The dishes didn't clean the same so I investigated and found that the metal piece under the bottom spray arm was bent and no longer spinning - I opened up the floor of the dishwasher and it seemed all was good if not a tiny bit dirty. With your video I was able to remove everything and replace it - Thank you for a great video and this really was wonderful.

This is my first comment ever on a RU-vid video. Because I had to say THANK YOU! This is exactly what I my dishwasher needed. It was appalling the gunk and junk, hard water buildup I found in my dishwasher! Not to mention (I have small children at home) the plastic fork, a dice, and a sparkly butterfly barrette I found in various nooks and crannies! Now the dishwasher is running smoothly, no flooding, and I can't wait to see if they'll actually be clean with the normal cycle. Thank you thank you thank you!

great video. odd engineering that you have to remove the upper sprayer line to remove the drain cover. unf this cleanout didnt solve my problem so im off to the drain line video. also you mentioned the rubber flap/sphincter at bottom but i felt nothing but a very small hole no way i was getting my finger in there. also when i removed the bottom sprayer arm there was some kind of cracked ring ( 2.5" wide and abt 1/2" high) beneath, cant tell if it it's from the unit or some long-ago washed device but the color matches.
@wingeren
@wingeren 7 лет назад
Thank you! This worked perfectly. It was the piece underneath the sump cover that was the problem. All the little holes were clogged with calcium buildup and I had to go in there and clean them out to get water flowing into the dishwasher again. Saved me a call to a repairman, and couldn't have taken more than 45 mins start to finish.

I'm a plumber and should probably know more about dishwashers but it's not something we really work on. I do know it would have cost way more than two hundred dollars and for that I'm very thankful. With amount of build up and debris ubder the screen and in the sump screen im wondering if the pods ate fulky breaking up of it that is nornal after 15 years of not being cleaned. I followed your clear instructions for dismantling the interior. Turned out that gray sump/ strainer shown at 2:42 in the video was clogged with fatty sludge. Put everything back together, now it's working perfectly. This saved me $100+. Thanks for this.

I have a GE Quietpower 1 (looks exactly the same inside) that wasn't cleaning and wasn't draining water at the bottom....followed all your directions and took everything apart and cleaned all the parts and filters. Then I ran the dishwasher on HOT START / HOT WASH / HEAVY LOAD with 1 cup of white vinegar in a measuring cup which was sitting in the top rack... It is nice and clean and running beautiful again. YEAH! Thanks for your video :) saved me a repair cost.

Very helpful. 15 yr. old GE Triton XL . Able to clean and troubleshoot. Now testing. Not able to release the last grey piece that has the one way valve. If this cleaning doesn't work, I'm guessing it's the final flap valve to the sump pump; or the pump itself that isn't working to drain . Had lots of water in bottom of washer, before disassembly and cleaning. A challenge for a 75 yr. old man with arthritis, who never tried such a repair before. Good experience; your video is very well done. thank you.

Great step by step and reassembled. Best tip for me was to use the base of my screwdriver tool. Also, glad I read prior reviews about tiny metal ring/washer that goes back in the bottom hub. I ran a simple cycle with a bowl of vinegar on the bottom rack to finish the cleaning process. My dishwasher is super-clean now and drains properly. Thank you!

You just saved me a TON of money! Spent about 30 mins taking apart my circa 2002 GE Triton XL and cleaned the sump grate.

Video was straight forward and accurate for the model. Worked like a charm following the instructions as shown. When you do remove the basket, there is a mini propellor that you should check is clean of debris also.

Thank you for the great video and clear instructions! I did a cleaning of the arms, but did not fix the problem of getting dirty dishes. When I took EVERYTHING apart I was amazed how gunked up everything was. Hopefully, now we will get clean dishes again.

This is video is great. I fixed my dishwasher once with it. When it ceased draining again, I came back for a refresher view. It only took about 20 minutes this time, and finding the tools was about half of that! There was a paper label stuck to the backflow valve (down where he says you should feel a little rubber flap). Cleared that out, and all is good.

Thank you so much for your video. I hadn't used my dishwasher for years because it wasn't draining & dishes weren't coming out clean. I was able to completely remove all parts & free the clog with the help of your video. I'm so thrilled!

Fantastic video! Easy to follow instructions. 2 pieces of glass and a piece of clear plastic wrap in the dark grey trap were the causes of our clogged drain. Once I removed them, our DW ran like new. Thank you.

SUBSCRIBED. Dude, thank you SO much! I can hardly fix a sandwich, but you have made me a professional handyman. I also gently took a screwdriver to the drain tube that the filter plugs into. I am guessing the black junk that I pulled out was coffee grounds, but it was disgusting. I can't wait to see what our dishes look like when they're done. They have been super spotty for weeks now. I'm guessing that since the dishwasher is 15-18 years old that it has been here since our home was built, and that it hasn't been cleaned or serviced the entire time. Pretty sure you saved me a new one.

This video saved me a ton of time, and when you are dealing with fragile plastic pieces it is helpful to have the step by step. I did break a clip on the upper tray which seems to be staying put. Not sure if you can find replacements for those.

Thank you so much!! So clear. Other dishwashers I've had were very easy to figure out how to take apart, but we just moved into a rental a few months ago and the dishwasher was not performing. I've never seen one so disgusting!! Thank you so much.

Thank you for this . Was a bit intimidated at first but you showed just how simple GE put this thing together. I was also a bit troubled to see the exact same screw you were missing was missing in my machine. That can't be coincidence. I wonder if stopped put them in figuring the machine just needed to the connection at the bottom and top. Machine was not doing a good job cleaning but once i got in there it was easy to see why. The filter screen had probably never be cleaned and several water jets were not working well.
