How to repair your Pioneer CLD-A100 LaserActive Laserdisc player if your unit won't spin a laserdisc. Mine had no trouble with CDs, but just ejected any laserdisc after a few seconds. If you have already tried replacing belts, I'll show an alternative fix for that issue in this video.

Thanks Buddy for this fix. I've used it to repair a Pioneer CLD-2950 that was playing CDs but spitting out LDs. The 2 washer technique has fixed the LDs !! Cheers from London !

I just repaired mine, but with a little different approach. Instead of adding washers i decided to cut a tiny bit of each spring which is placed under the white cup. It's really easy to get there. Works as a charm. Thanks anyway for the lead.

Thanks so much. My son's Pioneer Laserdisc player had the same problem. He was able to get it working again using your washer technique. He changed it a bit . Two washers made a rubbing sound. But one washer worked perfectly. Thanks again.

@edt1138

I had looked for one for ages as well, and finally took a chance on one listed as "non-working" in order to get a good price. Even as a non-working unit, I think I still paid almost $150 with shipping, but it included the Genesis pak, so I know I could get more than my money back if I never got it working. I still need to do a cap replacement on the pak, but I'm really not looking forward to changing 40 caps crowded together into such a tiny space.

I think some one already chimed in years ago but just so everyone understands this is not an issue w/ the motor so don't over think it. It is the "loading belt" being too stretched and it just needs to be replaced (part VEB-1184). As a belt stretches, you lose torque which is why the tray can not lift the heavy LD disc all the way up to the clamper. If the player does not feel the clamper has properly secured the disc, it won't play it. Other signs of a bad belt include a squeal sound which is a dead giveaway for a slipping belt.
@edt1138
@edt1138 4 года назад
Yep, been chimed and answered. Replaced the belt and it didn't fix it, so I tried this and it worked.
@MovieGuy846
@MovieGuy846 4 года назад
EdT1138 Classic Gaming Enthusiast Hmmm... in that case, maybe you need to grease the slider assembly that raises the transport. I know on my Denon unit it tends to have issues with retracting the clamper from the spindle motor because it has a heavier clamper magnet so regreasing after the belt change helped a lot.
@edt1138
@edt1138 4 года назад
Maybe, I haven't tried that. It has been working fine ever since, so I never bothered to open it back up. I might have to find some time in the future. Thanks for the suggestion.

+Brian E P CH I did not have any more trouble with this unit than any others, but there is a fair amount that needs to be removed, so you may want to watch a few tutorials on that subject if you haven't attempted any electronics repairs before. Also, I recommend taking pictures during tear down to remind yourself how everything is installed. Good luck.

Hi, I have a problem with the CLD-100a and PAC-S1. The LD player can play CD/LD normally, but when combining with the PAC-S1, the menu should display 'Laser Active', 'Mega CD/Mega LD' logos. But it doesn't for my machine. Just 'Pioneer' above and sega on the bottom.

I’m going everywhere to look for help. Would you know what to look at if my discs are spinning Too Fast (CLD-A100 LaserActive to be clear)? CD and LDs don’t read/play. The player will recognize CD or LD and even recognize Side A or B but it just doesn’t actually play. CDs will spin at max and stop immediately upon trying to play it and auto ejects. System is completely recapped, all ICPs replaced. Video board gets +\-14v and +\-5V rails. Any ideas would be appreciated.
@edt1138
@edt1138 2 года назад
Sorry, I didn't get a notification for this comment. I'm not sure it can spin too fast to play, but I have had disks get up to speed and eject when they try to play. If you haven't already try replacing the belts with suitable replacements.
@troymeredith521
@troymeredith521 2 года назад
@@edt1138 No worries. If you saw how fast the discs were spinning, you'd see they were going way way too fast. lol. Like the 52x CD-ROM Drives from the days of old. I did get some help and we narrowed it down to a single resistor that controlled the speed. Swapped the resistor and everything is now playing perfectly.

I'm sorry, but I have zero experience with the older players. I hear that can be a lot more troublesome, and that is saying something when you consider just how complicated Laserdisc players are in general.
@koopaGG

I have a Marantz player that did this, same noise and everything (and played CD's). When I opened it up it was disgusting on the inside. After a nice cleaning and taking apart of that top bracket everything started working but it occasionally needs a tap on the side to get it to work (you can hear it "click" into place after a tap on the sides). I'm 99% sure that the issue is that it had a TV sitting on top if it for many years that and bent the bracket and casing slightly, enough to cause an alignment issue. Could be wrong though.
@edt1138
@edt1138 8 лет назад
+Leif Jensen The first thing I checked before resorting to this was the belt, but changing it didn't help me. It is the most common cause of many issues, and it would be worth your time to change it either way. Assuming that you haven't already done so.

@Watcher3223

I'm sorry, but this is a workaround, not a proper repair. And this is not a very good idea because raising the upper clamper assembly's position means you've reduced the clamping force, which means that spinning LaserDisc isn't going to be held onto the spindle hub as securely as it's supposed to be. The problem with your player was a slipping loading belt, which is to be expected if the belt is the original, meaning that it's more than old enough to have lost its elasticity and would have been stretched out of shape by now. Pause on 9:44 and look at the belt and pulleys located just behind the rear of the disc tray; that's the loading belt. Replace the old loading belt with Pioneer part no. VEB1184. parts.pioneerelectronics.com/part.asp?productNum=VEB1184 And remove those washers from the upper clamper assembly once you do replace the belt. After the belt is replaced, those washers will not be needed and you will want to restore full clamping force to prevent the possibility of disc slippage on the spindle during use.
@edt1138
@edt1138 8 лет назад
+Watcher3223 I understand exactly what you mean, and I unfortunately did not mention in this video that I had already tried replacing the belts with no success. I did however put it into the description of the video, and have corrected myself several times in the comments. Thank you very much for watching, and for attempting to help me and others with this issue.
@Watcher3223
@Watcher3223 8 лет назад
***** What belt did you use? If the tension is too tight or too loose, the mechanism will never cycle properly. You have to use the proper type and the proper length.
@edt1138
@edt1138 8 лет назад
+Watcher3223 It has been nearly two years, so I don't remember specifically where, but after doing a Google search I found a website selling replacements for this model. It seemed to be an appropriate size when compared to the original. When it didn't work I just assumed that I had a weak or dying motor. I bought the player cheap as a non-working unit, so I was thrilled to get it functioning at all.

Hello Watcher, I do have a Pioneer CLD M90 player, I have the same issue, I tried your link but couldnt find any match for the loading belt, seems you are familiar with these issues, would you know the part number of such piece? Thanks in advance!!!
@Watcher3223
@Watcher3223 8 лет назад
Cucu Ca studiosoundelectronics.com/belts.htm#SBM The belt that should work is a square belt medium (SBM) with a circumference of 3 inches (3.0 I.C.). It's also cheaper than buying it from Pioneer. Meanwhile, buying a belt for the CLD-A100 from Studio Sound Electronics will also be cheaper than buying from Pioneer. The belt for this model should also be a square belt medium with a circumference of 4 inches. Unfortunately for Studio Sound Electronics, an order with a total below $5 will have a $1.50 small handling fee applied.

The root cause for this problem is the belt on the lower corner. It has nothing to do with the melt plate on the top. The belt issue also make the ld tray door unable to open unless you pull the tray by hand which showed in the video.
