Thanks for this video! After watching it, I pulled the trigger and did this with my vinyl top and I’m very pleased with the results. My only gripe is that dirt sticks to it like a magnet! Washes off just as easy but worth noting. Hoping it’s “stickiness” will fade with time... Two things I wish I knew before starting: 1: if using a roller (and I recommend that for a uniform finish). Use a high quality roller! I used one I had one hand, and a ton of fibers shed into the paint. This stuff is so thick, it’s like painting with caulk. 2. I trimmed in using a brush and my brush strokes were clearly visible after curing. On subsequent coats, I brushed it on like normal and then went back with a dabbing motion giving it a stippled appearance to match the roller. 👍
Thanx Alot for those tips! 👍👌I definitely would of been brushing it in certain areas and glad you pointed out the strokes will be visible. So I'm gonna try a bigger cotton ball like out of a pill bottle to blot over it. Yes a new, medium to thin roller is what I'm going to try... If it's that thick, I'm afraid the thick rollers will really soak it up too much....
@@mariogarza7796 They say you can use multiple layers, so if they are smaller than a pea, I'd think they'd fill in after 2 to 3 coats..Just a guess though..Good luck 😉
Thanks so much for this video. I really need to do this on my limousine, cuz i just notice this winter that the snow that melted leak inside.😢😢 I went around my town for someone to fix it, but they said that the only way to do it, was to re-do the whole vinal top which it was between $2k or $3k and i was like there's gotta be another way and thanks to you I can do it now without loosing and arm and leg for it.
I’m wondering if Sherman Williams paint store could modify Flex Seal product from semi gloss to flat with a different ingredient? I prefer a flat finish on my rig...
I have a couple of questions. For bigger cracks what should I fill them with - silicone or some sort of paintable caulking? What did you use on your lincoln and this car to fill bigger cracks? Also what sort of roller and brush do your recommend?
I guess rubber flex is pretty much the same as plasti dip? Rubber apint that you put on your car. Wanna try this on my old cadillac but here in sweden we don´t have that brand.
Hi Mike, I enjoyed your video. I noticed there was a question about a hearse and saw your reply. I'm about to take on the same task but unlike the other guy my vinyl roof doesn't leak but it is cracked in spots. After watching your vid, I want to use the flex seal to repair my roof. Only thing is it's grey and I want to change it to black. Do you think the black will give sufficient cover that i won't see the grey?
@@thelimogarage9665 have you ever tried Henry 887 sealant? I went to the local Home Depot today and they steered me towards that product. They no longer carried gallons of flex seal.
Mike, I recently bought a '90 Cadillac hearse and found out the vinyl roof leaks. My first thought was to try and seal it up with Flex Seal. Your post is from January; can you tell me how your repair is holding up? Definitely looking to avoid a $1500 new roof when I only bought the car for $2000, heh.
Rusty Cuttlefish the repairs I did with Flex Seal is mainly for cosmetics. If you have a leak you have a bigger problem. I do not recommend trying to fix it with Flex Seal unless you can actually find the leak and assess the damage.
You talked about what you did, but never showed any of the work. You'd probably get more viewers if you actually showed how it is done. Imagine a car repair guy who tells you how to replace your car's spark plugs versus one who shows you how to replace your car's spark plugs. I'd watch the one who showed me how to do it.
