Replace or Repair? Learn how to make a repair on an Aluminum coil using Lucas Milhaupt AL822. AL822 is a flux-cored rod so no additional flux is needed.
I have used this particular product. It works quite well. I have also used it on non-HVAC aluminum repairs. The key to a good braze is a clean surface, no oxide and no oils; and heating it to just the correct temperature. Wipe the area to be brazed with a clean cotton cloth that is saturated with acetone. I found it important to heat the repair area just enough to to melt the rod. You also have to make sure that you are not melting the rod with your torch.
AL 822 is a low temperature alloy ideal for brazing or soldering aluminum to aluminum or aluminum to copper. It’s an easy weld to do, once all the prep work is done, and it has held every time. I have used it on several occasions since I FIRST heard about it i 2018.
I will upload our video on repairing a microchannel later today. Look out for it! Note this same flux-cored rod also brazes aluminum to copper. I guess I'll be uploading two more videos later today for you to view!
Hello a jeweler recommended lucas handy flux to solder 925 silver . i seen Its lable low temperature brazing on container but it doesn't work on my jewelry .
Maybe someday they'll come up with something that actually lasts. This won't. None of them do, that I've found, can handle #400+ for any real length of time.
Put pressure in it and prove your repair. The thing is with aluminum No matter how good it looks you put a pressure in it and you will see it's still leaking.
I hope you guys know that this is only for new installs that have factory leaks. Why do you think there is not 1 video of a real world leak repair of a coil that has had refrigerant oil ran through it. It can not be done. Don’t waste your time and the customers $.
