I guess hvac is much different. This looks wayyy too much flux. I was taught i had to clean the excess flux on the outside only keep it inside and avoid get it inside the tubes.
Put pressure in it and prove your repair. The thing is with aluminum No matter how good it looks you put a pressure in it and you will see it's still leaking.
Maybe someday they'll come up with something that actually lasts. This won't. None of them do, that I've found, can handle #400+ for any real length of time.
I have used this particular product. It works quite well. I have also used it on non-HVAC aluminum repairs. The key to a good braze is a clean surface, no oxide and no oils; and heating it to just the correct temperature. Wipe the area to be brazed with a clean cotton cloth that is saturated with acetone. I found it important to heat the repair area just enough to to melt the rod. You also have to make sure that you are not melting the rod with your torch.
I hope you guys know that this is only for new installs that have factory leaks. Why do you think there is not 1 video of a real world leak repair of a coil that has had refrigerant oil ran through it. It can not be done. Don’t waste your time and the customers $.
i work in HVAC manufacturing and we braze the brass valve ports or valve body’s to copper on the Switch Over Valves. sometimes it looks beautiful and sometimes i can’t seem to make the alloy bond to both materials
Poor video: no mention of correct shade of eye protection, too much heat making the copper dead soft by extended annealing, wrong type deep seating plumbing fitting, no mention of oxidation inside the tubing, no mention of nitrogen purge requirements, no mention of...yada yada. Rediculous video.
Give credit where it’s due any hvac professional should know that you need to flow nitrogen when brazing and any professional tradesman knows the risk involved with the jobs and precautions they have to take. They did a better job brazing correctly than most other manufacturers do when showing demos of brazing equipment. Plus I’m sure that joint didn’t leak under pressure test which is ultimately the goal.
The video was about brazing copper to copper using sil phos with no specification of the application the brazed copper would be used for. If the video was refrigeration specific brazing, then I would agree with your comment.
I've been soldering for 15yrs in a laboratory setting where our copper sees huge swings in temperature and pressure and holds up to this day. This is a very sloppy plumbing job, the extra flux can cause the joint to fail and develop pinhole leaks after some period of time. All that extra flux gobbed on is unnecessary. There should also not be big gobs of solder around the pipe that you started burning to black. Excessive and ugly mess. You should just see a thin ring of solder at the joint because that solder should actually wrap around the copper inside the brass female portion to create its seal.
Hi Mr lucas Milhaubt im in South Africa interested in t 802 low temperature aluminium braising rods but cant find them in our local hardware stores need your help tnx brother plz reply.
Thanks for the Steel to Copper Tubing. Your Videos are Great! T J (Tom) Vanderloop, Author, Technology Instructor & Consultant. AWS & LSME, CMfgE & CMfgT
Nice job on the finishing processes. Quality brazing always has a final visual inspection. T J (Tom) Vanderloop, Author, Technology Instructor & Consultant
Heat the base metal & then create a wetting process into the joint, this allows for a capillary action. T J (Tom) Vanderloop, Author, Technology Instructor & Consultant
