Bike not getting fuel? Fuel all over the ground? In this video, I demonstrate the proper methods of repairing and adjusting motorcycle carburetor fuel floats. It is basically the same process for any carburetor regardless of brand or vehicle.

Very informative, thanks Ichiban. I never realised that Harley Davidson used such space aged materials in their carbs. Constantly impressed by that company's forward thinking and innovative style. Sure Brody is gonna be stoked with his badass custom floats.

Since i've swapped out my carburetors with bigger ones, i can now use beer cans (empty offcourse).

Don't forget, beer floats on its own, If the empty cans are too buoyant, your engine might suffer fuel starvation.

it started with the tool roll video back when they discontinued it from the packet choices. used to love a packet of fire with a packet of Verde for freshness, took a taco from a 3 to a solid 4. Verde packets are still right there on the bench!!! at least one started leaking and i had to put it in a baggie, but it's still here lol

I'll have you know, I've ridden my 2013 Harley for 10 miles and the floats are still fine. That's like 5 trips to starbucks. Well worth it.

on my ttr 90 the bowl over flows with gas and comes out of the air box and out of the drain tube. could it be the needle on the float itself?

You made a schoolboy error. That float material is for diesel, you need Chardonnay corks for petrol. Duh!

Due density of E85, Chardonnay corks are the ideal material, Burgundy corks are just too dense.

Please help me understand, when a running bike hits a pot hole or something like a bump, what happens inside the carburetor? Doesn't the fuel splash into the venturi?

Yes that method is familiar with me, i can tell the owner used a jack hammer and jimmy bar to get that pesky float out. He may have used, by the look of the condition of the float, the second option to remove the float... TNT!

Also, hand crafted polystyrene with its closed cell structure, make a great replacement for the Harley floats.

Harley uses mostly 40mm CV carburetors.that are just like the ones you see on other brands.

FYI - Those weren't genuine Harley floats, probably aftermarket. Factory Harley floats are made out of walnut as it's a denser hardwood, thus lasting longer before becoming fuel saturated.

I have a bike where I got it in parts, and assembled but I cannot get it to run. The bike had originally had a blown piston, I replaced it. I also cleaned the carb when I bought it. The tanks clean, petcock works and fuel lines are correctly placed, but when I go to kick it over, I get nothing. Spraying gas in the carb manually or into the top end will get it started as well but the carb wont kick in and do its job. I have not been able to look in the bowl because one of the screws is stripped, could it possibly be a bowl problem? that the float is set too low and so its not drawing any gas in?

+Alberto Knox There is one located in the drip tray on the floor under the HD. It is there to set off an alarm to prevent drip tray overflow.

Never trust settings on carbs sold with generic make/ model fitment from anyone other than oem stock suppliers. Same goes for "pre-jetted" aftermarket units.

I met a guy about like the guy in the video! Who ever used cork for floats in a carburator? And Harley Davidson never made wood floats for there carburators! If you can't do any better than that you need to be ban from working on floats guy!
