Great tutorial once again! really love the content you are putting out. For those on mac or struggling with 3D builder, Blender has 3d repair tools that should do the trick and as far as I am aware, functions the exact same way.
Thank you, I really appreciate the encouragement and feedback! Oh that's fantastic to hear! I'll definitely check out the repair feature in Blender as well. Maybe I'll do a a part 2 to this video explaining what other options there are for STL repair. Thanks!
Holy COW I've been strugling a LOT to fix a 3D model, trying multiple programs and this one tutorial fixed it on an instant Thanks a lot man, sometimes the simplest solution is the best
I was using an online software called Sketchup and for some reason when I would download the file and upload it on Cura, it kept saying that the model had holes in it, and some of the cylinders in the model were completely eradicated when I sliced and viewed the preview. I'm glad I came across this video, and it definitely helped me to restore the model.
This program works freakin MAGIC for me so far, thank you! Spent forever painstakingly editing my mesh looking for gaps and this program took care of everything!
thankfully this helped me get a picture of what i need to fix manually on a project since its not always surefire but it does give you an idea on what to fix if you are able
This has helped me immensely. I was going crazy trying to get rid of some artifacts in my prints for some time now. You sir have saved me a lot of headaches!!
Duuuuuuuuuude this software is amazing. I discovered it when I had to remesh an otherwise incredibly cool thingiverse model that had so many triangles it crashed cura when you loaded it. It also works amazingly for splitting big prints into parts.
It's funny you should mention that. I normally use Meshmixer for all my 3D file editing. However, Meshmixer is very aggressive with how it repairs models. But 3D Builder and Meshmixer seem to be very similar in many areas. So a friend and I decided to put them head to head in a kitbash challenge. Our videos should hopefully be out in a week or two. 😊
@@SlicePrintRoleplay holy crap. Okay that's remarkable timing. Will wait for the video. Thank you!! Also earlier we were debating with my man if you are a kappa or something else. I was underf the impression kappas were more reptilian and less fishy though? Or are you a merman or something else?
@@princeofdew8980 yeah I'm really excited about this collaboration video! Hopefully everything finds it helpful. You are correct that Kappa are more like a big water lizard that walks in two legs. My channel mascot is Named Orem. He is a Sea Troll. He's actually the first NPC I ever created so he's very special to me and my channel. 😊
Cheers...was getting fed up with the repair message from my slicer but it not actually being able to repair the model so this saved me a lot of effort.
OH MY GOD!! I tried everything literally EVERYTHING and I need to deliver the order tomorrow I was about to cry and then I found your video THANK YOUUUUUUUU YOU SAVED ME I APPRECIATE THAT
3D Builder is Microsoft's magnum opus haha, I dunno how they managed to make such a good program. Great video! My theory for why presupported models often display errors is that adding supports in a way is 3D modelling, and with the amount of adjustable parameters involved its possible the slicers aren't capable of creating perfectly manifold supports every single time.
Very well said! I absolutely agree, I've only just scratched the surface of what 3D Builder can do! In many ways it seems comparable to Meshmixer which is definitely impressive!
@@OnceinaSixSide it's definitely a bit more involved than 3D Builder, but I believe it's a bit more versatile... Than again, my opinion on that could change once I get to know 3D Builder a bit more. 🤔
@@SlicePrintRoleplay oh yes!!!!! Absolutely! And I see a lot of different tuts! Cheers my friend and when I can I will join the channel! Super helpful! Btw, I dig your intro!
Great video! Just a little tip though that newbies like me would want to know. The program is really bizarre. After you open and object and view it, you still need to click the "import" button even though you see the object in the program. Then you can click "repair" at bottom left. It's really bizarre we have to do that extra step (import).
I have printed a ton of files that the slicers say need repair. In fact Lychee also seems to export the STL as a broken file about 50% of the time (not real errors, just the slicer being dumb). They never fail and I have never had issues. Interesting take though, have seen some folks using 3D builder to fix major errors. For the most part, unless I see a slicing issue, or actual missing polys or pixels I will just print it. Interesting to say the least, I may include this in my workflow for future projects.
I totally agree, there are some models that a slicer will day has issues but they'll print fine. In my experience, I've never had a bad experience from repairing a model. So if the slicer identifies errors I'll typically repair the model without looking too far into what the errors are. However, sometimes (like with the model in the video) it's easy to see the errors.
@@SlicePrintRoleplay Absolutely, like the video, it does actually explain how to repair in a way that I wasn't currently doing, so in some cases if a file is really broken (which did happen to me once), this might be able to do what the other tools I was trying at that time could not. Thanks for the video again, good stuff.
@@IPrint3dMinis you are very welcome! I was using the NetFab Repair Tool, but I've found this is easier to use and seems to give the same results. Which is saying something considering the NetFab Repair Tool has always given me great results when repairing issues.
Hi im having an issue, When fixing the model on 3d builder it seals the key holes to connect my model hands to arms for example, it seals every single key hole on the model im fixing. Im try to fix it because it gives me artifacts on lychee.
Hmm I've never experienced or heard of that issue before. Could you check the size in your slicer, then repair it, then scale it back to its original size in your slicer?
quick question. 1. can you print the presupported model when it is showing errors? 2. Ive seen where the models scale shoots way up do you know why that happens? Thanks for your advice
#1, yep I'm most slicers you can still print a model even if the slicers identities errors. #2, I've not encountered that myself. It could be a glitch. It could also be something that 3D Builder has to do in order to repair the model correctly. If you make a note of the Z height before you repair then you should easily be able to rescale/resize the model back to that size once the repair process is done. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Does anyone know any other good programs? I have a stl that needs fixed but this one isnt showing up in the store and a couple others i tried gave my computer pop ups so i deleted them asap
@@kursteenswisher7169 yeah I'm sorry. I don't know what's up with Windows lately. It's been a few weeks since it was available. Most slicers have a repair function. You could try that. Prusa Slicer especially has a good repair function.
It was the best - until I found this !! Meshmixer fixed a female figure with a large braid down her back by dumping most of the braid. It also removed her shoes ! 3D maker fixed it and kept the braid and shoes intact.
@@romeo92314 yeah I'm not sure why it's been pulled but it's a bummer for sure. There is an online option called the Netfab repair tool. It's browser only so it's a bit clunky but. However, it's probably the best 3D repair tool out there.
Gladly! .obj, basic format for a 3D file. Most 3D modeling softwares can/will export this type of file. It can contain a large amount of data so models are normally left in the this format until all edits have been made and the file is finished. Some slicers can read this and some can't. It's best to import it into Meshmixer, Microsoft 3D Builder, etc. Then export it as an STL for use in your slicer. .3ma looks to be a proprietary file format that belongs to a specific modeling software. Not sure which software though. This unfortunately most likely means a file in this format cannot be converted without access to that software that created it. 😞 Not sure what you mean by "2D file formats." do you mean like a .svg file? Those are kinda 2d, but can still be used by 3D printing software once they are extruded (made thicker).
@@SlicePrintRoleplay thank you. I thought .obj was the 3d file, still don't understand .3ma so I'll have to test it more and 2d is fun. I already used 2 models for backgrounds on my phone
@@SlicePrintRoleplay btw to give you a better idea of what I'm talking about, I'm using the app "3D Modeling App" to share it gives those 3 choices but I need the premium version for obj and 3ma so I'll just try another free app. I want to learn all the different file types eventually. I don't see how someone would need more than .obj in my opinion
Personally I would. Like I said, 99% of the time the file is fine. However not all pre-supported files are perfect. If you care to its never a bad idea to just check them real quick fo unsupported islands. You can learn more about checking a model for islands in the video below. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XRZIzwlvVks.html
@@SlicePrintRoleplay ok cool i had lychee flag some recently but it was an archvillain games file and one from lord of the print both who are some of the best in the game so I thought it waa odd. Probably the presupported file confusing lychee
@@DDepsi okay, I have seen that happen occasionally. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about 3D modeling yet to help much. I'd suggest joining my Facebook group and asking there. I know there are a few 3D artists in my group who will probably be able to provide some insight into what's going on.
It is a tragedy for the ages... I'm assuming they'll release their own paid service soon... Or perhaps there was a licensing issue. In any case, the 3D printing community mourns the loss. 😞
Yet you forget to tell ppl that 3d builder stalls on repair, not for an hour but indefinitely. It's the apps only flaw that they refuse to fix. I've left it on repair for more than a day and currently as I type doing the same. I'm hopping it fixes, but I know it's just stuck like always.
I have never experienced that issue. I also certainly wouldn't recommend a program if it couldn't complete the teak I was recommending it be used for. Is this happening with all models or just some? If this is happening evey time you try to repair a model then there is likely an issue with your install of 3D Builder. Try removing it and re-installing it.
@Slice Print Roleplay it's such a pain. I didn't k own about the blender fix as I lost all knowledge of blender and I'm starting the donut again. My model isn't even complex like you cage was and it's having issues repairing in 3d builder. I'm hoping it fixes but based on 3 years experience I've rebuild several models because of the repairing stall. 90% it's needs repair only because I started the program "3d builder" the next day to continue working and it.
Oh wow, that's in 3D Builder? I've never had anything take longer than 15 - 30 minutes max. It's possible that it can't repair the file. However, I guess it could take that long if it was a large file. Definitely let me know if it finishes.
@@SlicePrintRoleplay Left it all night.. Woke up this morning and still was still fixing so I stopped it.. Gonna try to print it un altered.. I will see what happens.
@@figuresix thanks for the update. I'm sorry to hear that it didn't repair the issue. You could take it into Meshmixer and use the Analyzer option to identify the issue(s). It could be that there are just too many issues for it to repair.
Hmm I've not had any problems with it since I started using it about a year ago. It's possible this could be hardware or driver related. It's worth looking into at least.
