You would think this would be a no-brainer but for the life of me I never thought of being able to repair my lace. Thank you so much for posting this, I saved my favorite blouse using this method and now I cannot even tell the repaired areas from the original. All thanks to you! You are absolutely amazing and I just adore your channel. :)

Ursula Kováts did it work? (I would assume it's not difficult and tedious... But I would assume the concept still applies. If nothing else, you could patch sew over it or mend it, and cover your work with some nice clashing lace and bow/satin rose. Or a trim, even some custom beaded embroidery! Just disguise it like a statement piece or accent!

I think it would be messy, make the lace stiff in the repair area, and might be more obvious. Needle and thread is probably best.

I hope you get this and can respond! I have to alter my vow renewal dress for our ceremony in just a week and a half! (My hubby proposed to me for it just this past week, so I got late notice lol)...I need to put a corset into the back of the dress, into the lace material (lace that's like in your video here) on the back of my dress so I can wear it (it only zips to the waist..so I will leave the zipper bottom part in there). HOW CAN I ACCOMPLISH THIS? I checked all over RU-vid typing in diff searches and all over the internet, but there's no tutorials I can find on it. Should I add boning with loops in where I take the zipper out at? Will that be enough to support the corset inside the delicate lace fabric? Or do I need to put in a liner to the entire back (with the lace over it) so I can add eyelets or loops to make a corset back? PLEASE HELP! thanks, Megan :)
@ProfessorPincushion
@ProfessorPincushion 8 лет назад
+Megan Garcia I'm having trouble understanding what you're wanting to do. Do you mean you want to convert the back to a lace up? I'm definitely not the expert in this as I avoid formal gowns but if that's what you're looking for, here are a couple of sites I found that might help: 365days2simplicity.blogspot.com/2011/11/remake-dress-that-fits-with-corset-back.html?m=1 and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MW9e4Hgjgng.html good luck!

I am wearing my grandmothers wedding gown from 1957 (60 years old!) and as you can imagine the lace is very fragile. It has a few tears at the neckline (all fabric intact), would this method work to repair it? Also is there a way to reinforce the lace to prevent further damage?
@ProfessorPincushion
@ProfessorPincushion 6 лет назад
as long as the fabric isn't brittle, which means that it breaks easily, you should be able to repair it. Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to reinforce a fabric like lace unless you're attaching fabric underneath it but then that's not exactly the same.

@ProfessorPincushion
@ProfessorPincushion 6 лет назад
Oh no! I would apply some fray check (you can get it at the fabric store) along the edges to keep it from getting further damage and stop the fraying. Then trim off any fraying and carefully hand sew the edges together using the best matching color thread you can find. It might not be perfect but it'll probably be hard to spot. Have fun on your cruise :)

I have a 1920s lace dress with flowing sleeves it looks marvelous. It was significantly damaged because it was handmade french lace. I watched this video extensively until I knew how to sew the lace. The lace pictured in this video looks very similar my lace was slightly thicker and got thinner as it draped down to create the flow. That was where is was damaged most.. clearly enough the sewing technique worked out so very well that I can now wear my dress thank you!
