Excellent video...my issue was on a 1SERIES (E81). There was a recall in May2018 and the dealership disconnected my aftermarket stereo nearest the front battery (while I believe they changed this part nearest the back battery). I've had 3 separate mechanics (including ex-bmw mechanic) confirm they didn't need to disconnect my stereo for the recall. Now I have to pay for stereo to be reconnected - this video lets me talk specifics from visual knowledge. Kind Regards Dr S you explained very well your repair.
No worries ma friend...Glad i could help. Tell all your friends to subscribe. RU-vid cut my funding. I made $1K last year and was looking for more this year...now I got nuthing. Please subscribe...Thanks again and more on the way. My real job sometimes takes up too much time to let me edit...
Good video thanks, Dealer wanted $900 to fix got part from dismantler from car that hadnt been hit $150. fixed problem seat belt/ airbag fault lights , Thanks again
Thank you sooo much I have only had my car for about 2 weeks I have a 2011 335i and I love my car I got in it to leave and it would not start I changed the starter with I did not need because my starter was already brand new but I did not know that at the time so when I changed that and it still would not start I was at a loss but because of your video I now know exactly what is wrong with my car so thank you so much!!
Best video I've seen about this so far but would've been nice to see you taking the cable apart and explaining that a little bit better. The radio is distracting also.
Nice, the airbag light just pup out randomly on the dashboard, after OBD scan and investigation the code error, I figured out that the issue is with battery plus cable. Need to do the same. Thanks for very detailed manual🎉
Awesome video. I never thought you could change the end of the cable that has the battery terminal. I now have something to do. Thanks for uploading the video.
DrShankopotamus i have my m3 e46 2002 cabrio repaired at the BMW with bst blown , and now I have really hot temps on positive cable? The battery and alternator are working solid . Do you think that i need to claim the repair and ask to check if the cable was all replaced or was just a minor repair to the connector and now im having eat issues. Best , Barros
@@thinkingagain5966 well the total auto repair was around 19 000 euro . The terminal was a just a messy job. I end it buying other used cable and replace it ( Job and cable 250 euros ) . All ok 👍
Make sure you wear safety glasses when you pop those rivets because they come flying out of there with enough Force to split the eyelid. Sharing because of a friend.
Hi! Do you know the correct size for the bigger wire going straight to engine bay? 25mm2? My cable has been replaced near the terminal by cutting. The jointing is a total nightmare and I don't want to remove the connection to check the cauge.
Hello. This video is very useful. I'm thinking about trying it on my 2009 BMW 328i. My question is - what year BMW was the car in the video? I'm trying to figure out if the cable I need is the same as yours or not.
Question; What happens if I just replace that safety positive cable ,but not fix the blowout airbag(crash in my car),?,Ther is no possibility of that safety positive cable blowout again?.Thanks in advance for your response.
Hi. Somethime if battery are loosing that happen. Battery can't moving on randabout or ramp.. I had bigger battery in my e61 and no hole for the long screw. When I put back correct battery Airbag on dash can be removed. Because there is Bst for safety. I try to check all cables under seats but only Creatir c310 show me correct nformation:)
I'll have to look and see if that connector is loose because I'm messing with someone's where there is a lot of heat in that cable and high resistance I don't know if it got pulled on it wasn't even charging the battery it was at like 12.9v and up front it was 14 v I'm actually surprised the car started with that much resistance I was just barely cranking but the battery was low and with a jump box it did start but barely
Thanks for the practical approach and detail. My BST blew after a battery replacement due to a loose connection on the secondary cable causing the BST to heat up until it finally blew the charge (all the plastic around the bad contact had melted down). It made a big POP and blew the two halves completely apart. The guy that replaced the battery started loosening the top bolt then realized it was the wrong one when the terminal was not coming loose. He never retightened it when he put the new battery in.
What year BMW is this? Having BST / airbag codes after doing a battery replacement (unreal) -- and am still having trouble believing it, but when I split the "red box", i lost power, so I'm guessing it must have blown or come apart -- Though from your description, this apparently isn't easy to do accidentally, and it definitely didn't blow while I had it apart or was working on it. Anyway, my '11 e90 has red covers on everything, so not quite as apparent what's going on unless I drill the rivets out, which will require I take it all apart anyway, so I may as well have the part on hand. I guess it's a $50 gamble at this point... Thanks for the video!
Hi I know this video is old but maybe you or someone will reply. I had front end collision not too hard but enough for steering wheel airbag to go off. Can I do this exact thing with my 2011 335is coupe? Battery is obviously different but has the same safety feature where the cable blows off. Thank you.
Yes , I had a heat issue on the positive terminal ( my m3 was hit and blew the terminal) . After that only a new cable ( i have tried to connect it again with a new terminal but no sucess , -1v at both ends and lots of heat resistance) . Buy a used but ok cable and replace it . Good luck , Barros.one
Best I can tell...the e46 "large" wire looks to be 3/0 AWG. It's about 10.4mm diameter with 19 copper wire bundles. The gauge measurement doesn't include the insulation. I'm guessing the e36 should be similar. Hope this helps.
Mine is a 2011 550i xDrive, but it's the positive jump terminal under the hood that began smoking today....repair pal says $400-1700 WTF is up with that disparity? Is my issue something that can be a DIY?
How did you reset the airbag light after fixing? I am doing this fix myself now and was curious how you reset the light. Saw some people had success with ac8O8 tool
You must have the right tool. You will need a computer program on your laptop that can reset it through the OBD-II (or 20-pin connector) or you need an SRS tool(many different manufacturers)...Hope this helps...Have a YWHW day!
I bought mine off eBay. That will definitely be part of the problem. Also check the control module for the airbags and you will need to clear airbag codes. Also check seat belt receivers. Good luck.
I have this problem & have the airbag light on! i changed the whole wire and tried to erase the airbag light code but its clear the code just wondering if you had the same problem? Kind regards
there is a resistor you need to wire in , www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Airbag-Bypass-Resistor-Fused-BMW-1-8-Ohm-0-25-W-2-Amp-SRS-Fault-Finder-Tool-/251634602274 , have a look i think this is a common fix for e46/e85 look on bimmer forums or z4 forum
Thanks , very informative ....but... if you're making another video please turn the radio off in the background - very distracting and makes you hard to hear! Thanks :-)
Sorry for that...not much control over the music...I just hit the Pandora button and get in the DIY zone...maybe time to consider a Spotify upgrade with the dedicated Dr Shankapotomus track! Thanks for watching!
