Not only does not fixing the stuff we own create waste, but malls tend to cut up unsold clothing to prevent people from dumpster diving, so...yeah. companies would rather cut these items instead of donating them to the homeless.

My grandmother was born during the Spanish Flu pandemic and money was really tight when she was growing up because of the Great Depression. She never bought clothes and made all her clothes even though she eventually became wealthy. I don’t have the talent to make my own clothes but perhaps I can compromise and repair the clothes I own and continue wearing them. I try to stick to very classic slow fashion/style pieces and I have stuff if my closet from 10 years ago that’s still acceptable to wear but it’s annoying when tiny holes or stains develop on these outfits. I don’t believe price determines quality because some of these clothes are from very expensive brands and some of my cheapest outfits have lasted a decade with no signs of damage.

I had a smallish hole on the knee of my jeans, so I embroidered a moon over it, so sort of a stitch repair I think. And it stayed good for a while but then it got a bit ripped elsewhere, so I added some clouds. But that /so/ didn't work, cuz like in this video, the area around it was worn, so doing the stitch repair, it just shifted the tension from one spot to another and ripped above one of the clouds. Def gonna try patching it now

OK, this is a great initiative and I would love to give repairing jeans I have that are desperately in need of a patch. A few things in the video that were sort of rushed over, so possibly assumed knowledge? 1 - Does the patch repair on the jeans require you to slide the leg of the jean over the arm of the sewing machine? 2 - What do you do with the excess, unsecured patch material on the inside of the jean leg?

I know this was forever ago but here's an answer to 1 😅. Yes, you have to kinda put the pants on the sewing machine, or else you'll see the front to the back. I'm also wondering what to do with the extra fabric, like, either they hand stitch it to not flap around or they trim it? But they purposefully made it big so I don't think that's right. I've seen patches (in this video I think) where they go along the outside of the fabric of the patch so I think that.

If the zipper doesn’t close. You can apply pressure with some pliers. Their are also repair sliders available.
@djazt.8053
@djazt.8053 3 года назад
True that! Just, if the slider is from zinc alloy cast material (often the case), then the pressure has to be applied very gently, causing just a minimal amount of bending. Bending too much, or back and forth, easily leads to breaking the slider.

You can also rub wax on a zipper to lube and protect it.

If the jeans button falls off, can you reuse it by separating the two pieces or would you need to get a new unused jeans button to replace?

This video doesn't actually go over the edge stitching or felt stitching :( The rest is awesome but the Table of Contents near the start is incorrect

Which model of sewing machine is that? Thanks

after two years I came for asking the same thing. Anyway looking at the actual video I can read a "pfaff" on the rear of it, which is actually a sewing machines brand. But that's specific model may be something old since I can't seem to find it on their website

I have a shirt that no matter how much I wash it is still stinks like sweat, other clothes don't. It's really weird. But I like the shirt and don't wanna throw it away, does anyone know if I can fix this somehow?

Try washing with vinegar instead of detergent. If you have a “High Efficiency” washer (anything built since 2010), consider washing it in a tub or pot with water and vinegar. Let it soak 15-30 minutes, then rinse and dry. (But check the label and make sure it’s not silk or a fiber that vinegar will harm.)
