As always, enjoying this series as well, did not think wood could be as "rigid" for precision rifle use, adds interesting and probably more affordable options for sure.

This is crazy Elmer's Glue! Custom stock makers use EPOXY and Hickory rod or all thread aluminum rods drilled through the pistol grip. Hacking up gunstocks like that, it's good there's no high grade wood he's working on.

now, i may have missed this but what is the benefit outside of the more aesthetically pleasing look of a wood stock over a polymer one?

Great question... There are a variety of 'polymer' stocks, some are of very good quality some are not. The mechanical integrity and 'harmonic superiority' of one over the other depends on exactly what kind of synthetic and what kind of wood you are talking about. Value: Dollar for dollar, something like a $75 walnut stock generally offers much better construction than an equally priced plastic stock. Its true, from a strictly utilitarian point of view that the best stock would be a Premium Quality fiberglass stock, properly bedded of course. But you may have to spend a lot more coin than you 'wood' have... ;-) Advantages of WOOD: Most hardwood gunstocks offer greater rigidity and are therefore harmonically superior to cheap injected molded (plastic) stocks --- in the same price class. Wood stocks can also be easier to work with than injected molded in terms of bedding. Warp and moisture are not issues for wood stocks IF the wood was chosen properly and the wood was finished correctly. Where synthetics can WIN out: If you talk about about higher quality, heavily-constructed synthetic stocks, then they are about equal with wood in terms of rigidity. Premium quality fiberglass stocks (like the McMillan A5) will usually be superior to wood, mechanically speaking, but often can cost much more.

+Gren Moyo: classic, traditional, non tacticoolness, old school beauty...etc All the polymer tactical stocks are for the guys that just want to look cool, but that coolness wears off and you desire the good ol walnut. At least thats what happened to me. Now my heavy barreled 308 is in a turkish walnut CZ550. All my rifles from now on are walnut, no more tactigayness
