The axle for the handle broke on my mower, but you gave me the confidence to open up the handle. In some cases the switch problem might be a case of the handle's connection with the switch. In this case, one doesn't need to replace the switch. One needs to figure out how to reposition either the handle or the switch.
@@samanthrax27 I've been using a piece of wood between the lever and the mower handle. This allows me to push down the on button. I've thought about drilling a hole in the side of the start switch container and using a long screw for the handle axle. Of course one could also just buy a new handle casing. I am too cheap for that solution.
Exact same problem here. Instead of replacing the switch, I sprayed tuner cleaner into the small hole on the switch - a bunch of black stuff came out. The switch is now working again!
Hi Geo. That's a great DIY video. I 'd suggest you use some needle-nosed pliers to remove the terminal clips next time, rather than your fingers. You don't want to pull on the wires and loosen the crimp connection. Also, you don't seem to have any actual grass to mow :p Otherwise awesome!
thanks so much because i was wondering why i didn't discard it and i am so glad i did not. i knew where the problem was but i thought it would be s spring that had to be replaced. thanks so much again because with a person with arthritis having to weed eat the entire lawn and make sure it's nice/level/well-groom~~which i am a stickler for that~~it's time consuming as well as painful. i look forward in viewing how to replace the blade and service the fan.
Do you think this might work if the mower was plugged in wet? It made a noise and then flipped the breaker inside the house. I turned the breaker back on, dried everything, then plugged it back in. This time it made a weak whirring sound when the handle was pulled and then stopped, the blades never started spinning. It smells like a burnt wire.
i've had my lm175 for a little over 3 years....and seems to have just "puked" - when i started mowing I was experiencing "loss of power" ....any ideas...? interesting enough, it happened previously, during the first year of ownership, and had to take it to the local Bostich/DeWalt "dealer" for service under warranty (that's where Black&Decker directed me) obviously, no charge for the "repair" under warranty....but now I'm contemplating repairng/replacing it....
@2:20 I wonder if sticking some tape to the orange handle would make it press on top of the switch better. This way, you could have just continued using your old switch.
Thanks for the great video and the walk thru was very much appreciated. Unfortunately mine still won't run after replacing the switch. I cannot afford to buy a mower so I am really stuck here. Any other common problems with the corded B & D mowers? Mine is the exact model you have but it has the flips switch and is very similar.
Open top.of hood the two partsline connect to tske apart and clean there is a video on it theres one on right side and left they usual rust so dont move wellenough google if switch dont fix it simple to do
My problem is, the little plastic piece that holds the orange hand starter broke. I just bought a new mower. It worked great for years, but that little plastic piece broke.
I have a mower with the same handle\switch combination, and the plastic on the handle broke. Had another B &D electric mower, and replaced the handle. Voila' it worked.
You can also clean the copper contacts inside the switch to repair it. Here is a video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NS6GflTZWFo.html
This switch on this particular model of Black and Decker is 'designed' in the WORST POSSIBLE WAY. Yeccccchhh. Replaced one twice on the same stinkin mower.
The only fix is to either replace the plastic housing or do as I did and drill completly through the housing and bolt through with a nut on bottom. That will solve the problem for the rest of your mowers life.
