In this video, I show you how I take apart the lever switch assembly from a Qualcast lawnmower in order to repair the plastic lever that had snapped in half. This is also how you would gain access to repair the mains lead if required. I used some 2 part epoxy resin to glue the lever back together which then set solid and worked very well. Dan, this is brilliant! Thank you! I’d unscrewed the cover and thought it was riveted on. I didn’t realise they were plastic bits. I’m off to the garage to fix my mower!

The handle on my Qualcast Cordless broke in the same place. Could not find a replacement anywhere. So I measured the part and drawn it up in 3D CAD I modified the inside to give it a lot more strength with internal Gussets. I then 3D Printed the part. It's been going strong for a couple of years now 😁

Hi and thanks for watching 👍. Hey, that's brilliant and I bet it's going to last a good long time now especially with the extra strength added🙏. I think how many times in the past I'd yearned to be able to make a duplicate part for something to be able to fix it. I think often the manufacturers go with cheaper materials rather than durable, good quality ones but then they don't want goods to last forever or they won't sell new ones but, like you, I feel it's much better (and cheaper) to keep things going as long as possible, excellent job👍

did you happen to publish the .stl for your model? I'm currently on a hunt for the handle model before I have to recreate it myself.

Nice one Dan I found one of these on the side of the road put out for the rubbish men so I picked it up & looked at it as my other half's mower was making a terrible racket. I noticed that the lever or at least whats left of it had been taped up & cabled tied to the handle. We tried it out today & it works fine so we'll be ordering a lever & fitting it. Thanks for the upload looks a pretty easy fix

Hi and thanks for watching. That's brilliant, it's great when people throw stuff out sometimes because quite often they have no idea how to fix or simply can't be bothered which is such a waste. It's great to fix and repair, saves money and means one less going in the refuse. Hope all goes well with the repair, I'm sure it'll go smoothly 👍

Hi Dan, great video, thanks for this - my Qualcast has this switch but the two screws holding the unit together, are not the 'normal' screws (ie phillips, or flat). Seem to be a star shape, but none of my star type screwdrivers fit, nor an allen key. Any suggestions of the type used? I see you use a flat blade for the video, but I don't want to shred the screw heads.

Hi, thanks for watching and the comment. Sounds to me like they used torx or maybe security torx screws on it, (security torx bits normally have a hole in the centre). My one was just a normal Phillips head screwdriver luckily. If it has 6 points then it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out the right size bit, sometimes you can get 5 point security torx bits too which aren't as easy to find bits for but not impossible. Hope that's helpful.

Hi there and thanks for watching. If it was me buying the part, I'd be looking at either Ebay or sometimes the manufacturer has a spares or parts section on their websites. Other than that, best to Google search but use the exact model number for your item, it'll be on a sticker or label somewhere on it. Hope that helps...Dan

Hi Dan I have the same lawnmower I.e same model but can't seem to find the lever part online, do you have a link to a site I can buy from, thanks

Hi, thanks for watching. I don't have a link unfortunately but it's something that would need searching for. I'd try eBay or maybe the manufacturer website and just check it's for your model number. Hope that's helps

Hi, great video. Do you know the part number of the handle as mine has broken into loads of pieces. Many thanks
@dandantherepairman
@dandantherepairman Месяц назад
Hi, thanks for watching. Unfortunately I don't know what that part number was because I fixed the existing part. I would go by the model number printed on the label if it's still visible and do an internet search on it, as long as you find one compatible with that model, it'll be fine. Should be fairly available since they are very brittle and prone to breaking. I hope that helps 👍

Hi, thanks for watching. If I ever get another one to fix then I'll try and mention it. It's supposed to pop back out when you let go of the lever so maybe the spring behind the switch has slipped or popped off👍

I can't find a replacement for this anywhere online, mine also cracked as my brother was borrowing it and his 3 year old snapped it. I used a tape to hold it in place, but I need to find a replacement as it's my landlords mower. I've already wasted €8 on what seems to be a generic lever replacement and it was too big. 😔😔
@dandantherepairman

Oh no, that's a bit of a predicament. Sometimes these parts are harder to source especially on older models. Maybe worth trying the resin fix method like I did in the video. The pack of resin is pretty cheap on eBay. Good luck and thanks for watching 👍

Hi, if you look at 9.13 it shows me clipping it back in. It's pretty much exactly the opposite side of the red lever, hope that helps, thanks for watching 👍
