I see what I did wrong on the one I was working on. I didn't put in ChipQuick/QuickAlloy before removing the old connector. I just applied as much heat as I could with tons of flux and ripped off a pad! Well, I learned. Might be able to rebuild the pad, Did that on a Fire Tablet once.

good vid...i have done hundreds of these ports..i actually have a fairly easy way of cleaning out the holes for the legs of the port...you use some 0.5mm solder braid and your hot air station with a small nozzle heat the holes till they liquefy and feed the solder braid through the holes cleans them out pretty quick..i am currently working on one that has been completely fubar..a previous tech ripped all but one of the pads off the board (that's what happens when you try to pull a port without heating it properly) so i now have to completely rebuild the circuit with awg 36 wire ...oh and they blew off several of the diodes near the port so i get to replace those too lol
@Eyem1337
@Eyem1337 4 года назад
When I buy broken systems and see that much damage (just had one, 3 missing diodes), I end up salvaging the working parts (PSU, BD Drive, HDD, etc) and resell them, I actually 100% of the time end up making more off of the console than I would if it was just working. I've done about 6 of the HDMI ports now, they can be a real pain in the ass

She is actually using very good quality tools and supplies, as I can see, she is using a very good desoldering wick and as she said she's using Chip Quik, which is a very good flux... so I can't understand why struggles so much to clean those support holes. The only reason I can think is the soldering iron is too low on temperature, otherwise that solder should came off very easily.

Yeah awesome. I discovered my Pioneer KRP-600M had only one working HDMI port after having it moved over 700 miles and over water to me here in the UK. It's the first 2nd hand display I've bought but always a risk on Ebay and I've found that out to my cost in away. I still have the working HDMI. There's DVI-D and component - fortunately this monitor supports 1080P over component RGB. But it's always a worry when down to your last port. Took the thing apart yesterday and these things are built to last so even getting the board out took quite a while and about 40 screws, ribbon cables, power supply connectors etc. Anyway one of the connectors is very slightly damaged inside - on the far right, second from right the little copper strip is very slightly damaged. It wasn't saying no signal before just a blank screen. But I'm actually glad it's just a damaged port itself and not the chip itself dying. Like 75% eventually of LG video input boards lol. Anyway it's £160 to buy a fully functional tested used board, or it's send it off for repair through the post somewhere - or attempt it myself as I've nothing to lose. I don't have any soldering equipment anymore and have never attempted HDMI before. But I love all this stuff so I'll guess I'll just need to think about it first. Your example here is by far the neatest, professional I've seen yet here. Amazing touch and skill - very quick and tidy too. Fantastic. Subbed.

Listen up kids trying to fix your PlayStation: this is an excellent video and great instruction. One thing to remember and consider before attempting this is the proper tools and materials to do this job properly are not cheap. Im all for people learning to repair things for a variety of reasons, but the most common is to save money. If you buy a $10 iron at Walmart and borrow you grandma's magnifying glass you are destined to lift pads and screw up traces. Then you'll take it to a repair shop and the repair will cost 5x what it would've cost to just have them do it first. Does this mean you have to get a degree to do the work? Absolutely not, but you better be prepared to fail for the first few times! Failure is the quickest way to learn sometimes so do the first repairs on friend's PlayStation. 😉😂

So I tried this repair with a heat gun off of eBay and I learned that it blew the right amount of heat but way to hard. The board around my hdmi port is burnt quite a bit. Will that effect it’s functionality? And I learned my 2$ soldering iron from the flea market I bought when I was 11 isn’t hot enough on the top to melt solder

My PS4 is turning off immediately after I open up any game, disc-based or not. The PS4 first gives an on-screen warning that the PS4 is overheating, shortly followed by the light bar on the PS4 flashing a red color, 3 beeps, then a black screen. It does not, however, immediately turn off when I am on the main screen, only when I open up a game. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? (Additional information: it's the optical drive/HDD area which is overheating, and every time I turn the PS4 back on, it searches the HDD in the same fashion as though I installed a new one, and comes up with the error message that the PS4 what not shut down properly.) how fix that.

That's a bevel tip, not a chisel. T15-B are bevels T15-D are chisels. Also, you can get the FM-2030 140watt heavy duty iron. It works wonders on those larger thermal mass ground planes. And have you tried the FM-2024 or the 808 desoldering tools? Mine work great for through-hole components. I'll bet they would clear those holes with ease.
@JessaJones
@JessaJones 8 лет назад
I have the FM 206 with desoldering gun. Still in the box. Just not enough use for that on when soldering on microscale of iPhones.
@mike7958
@mike7958 8 лет назад
Very true. I can imagine the heavy duty FM-2030 iron and FM-2024 would not get much use when it comes to microsoldering. But in cases like these, when you're not working on the microscale, they can make your life so much easier. And the FM-206 runs every iron under the sun. Why not take advantage of it?

went to remove an hdmi port from an xbox one s today and was using my new hot air station i purchased from Amazon. I fluxed the led free solder and added some leaded solder to the ground pads and used my hot air gun at 480 degrees. I worked at it for awhile and could not for the life of me get the solder to melt to release the port. I have no idea what the deal was. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

A good reason those can get damaged is because there are HDMI cables that look like hoses, and they put a lot of stress on the port.

Just happened to my Onkyo recievers one hdmi port. Im using Supra-cables and they are quite thick and causes some stress on the port. Mine needs fixing because the port is kinda loose. I can wiggle it up and down. Signal is lost doing this :) new HDMI-board is like the half price of a new reciever :) so i think it will be cheaper to change or resolder the connector pins that are loose.

The PC never had a back IO HDMI port but the connection is there on the board (just Lenovo never put one on). If I just solder one on should I expect it to work (as long as I do it right)? The processor will support HDMI also so no issue there. It's not my main PC anymore so I'm using it to experiment and see how much I can upgrade it. Thanks

Seems like a stupid question, but this could be possible with a normal soldering iron as well, I suppose? Snip off the old connector, get rid of all the remaining pins and pieces from the old connector, clean the pads up with some flux and wick, and for the new connector just melt all four main solder joints in a circular motion to seat the connector, and then finally soldering the little pins by doing the pull-soldering method. I cant see why it wouldnt work.

03:23 No, for some reason that I cannot find an explaination for, the PS4 (at least on the original model SAA-001 board) has one side of the socket barely soldered on on some boards. The other socket on back (some kind of connection port) is always half soldered and the HDMI is almost always half soldered or all 4 look like the joints on the right. Very bare and spare solder.

I don't know how these hot air guns are designed but I wonder if I could use a culinary butane torch to do this type of job. How hot is too hot? I find it very hard to judge with the culinary torch as the flame isn't vectored to the work like that of an actual hot air gun. I wonder maybe I could add a collar with a nozzle and get the heat where i need it.

very useful video, don't think ill be able to do the job due to lack of equipment and lack of soldering experience but If I had the kit id definitely give it a go... so precise though damn here's me thinking id just be striping a few wires and screwing in a new port... damn it

I got the middle part of an HDMI cable stuck in the HDMI port of my graphics card, this wasn't my main machine so I just set it off to the side and didn't worry about it but now I want to use it so could you help me.

Currently bidding on a PS4 that turns on but was listed to not show video or make sound would that most likely be the hdmi port

You can easily remove the solder from the holes using a desoldering gun. Every repair shop should have one and they're no longer expensive.

Can you possibly do this at home? With other appliances? I can disassemble the machine but I don't have the air gun and equipment.

The pins do they have to be inside the holes or just in the correct line and with the paste and the solder will do their job and make it work?
