Awesome!!! These machines really do last. Mine is from either 2007 or 2009. (There are 2 dates on mine so it’s confusing). This vacuum has held up very well and is now a part of my pretty collection. Very happy to hear that you’re is still running strong. Make sure to replace your clutch every few years. Between 3-6 years or so. Just depends on usage. Once it no longer ray cheats like I demonstrated, that means it’s time for a new one. And brushroll ss should be replaced every 6-10 years again depending on usage. Sounds great! Trash picking vacuums is actually really fun and something I’ve done for years because it’s always given me a challenge of finding out why a vacuum was thrown away and how or if I can fix it. @@DillonCleans absolutely! Quick question. I'm waiting on my clutch assembly. Just pretty much do everything in reverse when I get it? Do I install the clutch and put the cover plate on then attach the knob that controls floor and carpet? I assume that kinda just pushes back on?

@@kevinc6763 yes! Do everything you did in reverse and put the knob on last. It should just clip on easily. If it doesn’t go on, you may have installed the clutch wrong. But that’s rare.

Clutch assembly installed, new brush installed. Thanks for everything. I did however lose one of the 3 screws that hold on the clutch cover. Have one screw in the bottom and the top screw is in place. Oh well...the repair wasn't difficult, but definitely a bit involved. Thanks again!

That’s awesome!!! I had that same issue at the end of this video. I fixed it by taking the clutch out and putting it back in again. I know that sucks but it’s something you may have to do. I put mine in at the slightest wrong angle and it messed everything up. So I’m sorry that you’re experiencing that but I hope you get it all fixed and I hope my video taught you a new skill!!

Thanks for the comment! My machine may be easier to take apart mainly because it’s been taken apart several times before. If yours has never been taken apart, parts may be stuck due to them being on there 15-20 years.

That’s okay! As you see I struggled in the video and I’ve been doing this for 10 years. Getting it done at all is really impressive and you just saved yourself a lot of money.

You’re welcome!! Replacing the belts is certainly harder in this vacuum than just about any other vacuum. But they last a lot longer than most vacuums which is a nice plus.

Now I just need a tool to make it easier to put the clutch belt onto the drive! :)

As machines get older such as the 07 and 14 parts do become harder to source. I would highly recommend ebay and Amazon. Just make sure they are designed for your machine and read reviews if you’re buying off of Amazon. But those are generally the places that seem to have the most parts at the best price. There are other wel sites such as parts warehouse and they have tons of parts, but they are usually a little more pricey.

@@DillonCleans Thanks Dillon. I think I got it now. I think it was not in the carpet setting and the new brush is somehow faulty when under pressure from the new rubber band. Thanks much for replying; especially so fast. I was going to delete my post but maybe someone else can learn from this too.

I’m really not too sure why the motors would be failing in a case like this. So it may be happening she to improper maintenance of the filters and brushroll. But I do have an idea. The bouncing affect you’re getting it most likely due to the cleaner head not sitting properly on the floor. There will be a clear or translucent hose that may be improperly seating or worn out. It’s a good idea to replace that anyways on a vacuum of this age. The part is only $9. The other thing I could think of the the baseplate being Improperly seated on the cleaner head, thus resulting in the bouncing affect you are getting. You can also take apart the cleaner head until you get to the clutch assembly and inspect it for any damage that may be causing the motors to blow up. The clutch may be the issue. It’s hard to tell exactly what’s going on without me actually being there, but something surely isn’t going right in the cleaner head area.

I’m sure it’s not the motor. The brushroll won’t turn, that is most likely due to stuff wrapped around the brushroll and bearings. And belts can smell really bad if it’s not spinning. So I’m sure it’s the brushroll. But since you smell burning, that means the clutch has been burning. So you should replace the clutch too. It could just be the small belt on the clutch, but since you have clearly had it for w while, you should just go ahead and replace the whole clutch. Please buy a genuine brushroll off of eBay as that is the cheapest place for a genuine brushroll. Amazon has generic ones for really cheap, but they don’t perform well. But you can buy the clutch on Amazon since it’s a genuine component. Clutch is $28. And brushroll is about $20. I hope this helped!

This 100% fixed my issue! So glad you posted this video. Replaced the clutch and the beater bar with genuine Dyson parts. With some good parts and a little know-how, I’m able to keep my beloved Dyson for a fraction of the cost to replace it with a new one. Thank you again!

I have a Miele vacuum as the best one that I can have; the Dyson has its merit being fairly powerful, but it's a pretty crude design overall in comparison. I liken it to an old muscle car compared to a BMW. Noisy, crude and effective. Holding down the head with your foot while tilting it into position, manual cord wrap, knob switch for carpet or bare floor. Not refined, but it'll do. My Miele runs silently in comparison, adjustable speed, retractable cord mechanism, electric switched brush, under bed capability. It does require a bag though; I like the bagless design of the Dyson, though having the attendant filter maintenance and replacement requirements offsets that.

Don’t worry! Let me try and help. Although this isn’t common, it’s certainly not unheard of. The best advice I can give to you is the try and pull on the piece that needs to come out at the same time as you’re unscrewing it. That should pull the screw out while you unscrew it. The plastic where the screw sits is likely stripped.

New clutch has new belts!!

I don’t own a dc33. so no I have not. However it does work. The dc04,07,14,and 33 all have the same molding in the plastic of the brush bar housing. I am 100% certain it does work. I hope this helps😊

Sounds like it. Unfortunately, Dyson doesn’t offer a suction relief valve so there isn’t much of a way to solve this. But I do that some ideas. Make sure the brushroll is spinning very well. Replace clutch if needed. But I do have another idea. It may cause a loss in performance but not always. Remove the baseplate, you would see a black seal around where the baseplate would sit on the vacuum. Remove that black seal and put back the baseplate. That should solve your issue. Only do that if it’s really hard to push. It may cause a loss on performance but it’s not likely. If any issues happen, you can always put it back. But removing that seal has solved this issue for many people. So I hope this helps.

@@DillonCleans yeah i saw a vid where they guy removed the gasket thing is this seems to have gotten bad , it hasnt always been so tough, could the brush bar think its in the hard floor position and be making it worse?

@@steveo3002 possibly. Make sure the brushroll is on and spinning well. The sting brushroll can help propel it forward

On hard floors mode it should not spin to avoid damage to sensitive hard floors. And the brushroll should spin on carpets so it can best the carpet to Posen the dirt and suck it up. From your comment I believe your clutch is working perfectly.

@@Michael-ob1yp haha yes these certainly were expensive. And these were actually the best built Dysons. The newer ones are also great and they clean better than these older ones. But these older ones were built a lot better and will last longer than any newer dyson. Not that the newer Dysons are bad per se. They still last longer than the average vacuum. But man these older Dysons are nearly indestructible. Simple maintenance and replacements along the way and this machine will be good for many more years. But you’ve gotta take care of it!!

The belts are worn out for sure. Sounds like your biggest issue is the small belt. The big belt will work ok even if it’s stretched and worn. But my recommendation would be to replace the whole clutch so it will last the longest and give you the best cleaning performance. And so you don’t have to go through the hassle of replacing the small belt. The larger belt can’t be replaced unless you really know what you’re doing. That’s a job that I can’t even master and I’ve worked in vacuums for 10 years.

If it spins freely but doesn’t spin when it’s on, make sure it’s in the carpet setting and the vacuum is reclined. The brushroll will not spin if it’s in the upright position

That’s a little more complicated. That would involve rebuilding the clutch. You can watch videos on that. Not from me however. It’s generally better to replace the whole clutch because changing that belt in very complicated. Unless you are very good with taking things apart and you have the tools to do it. @@DillonCleans it's always easy to take things apart when you don't need to put them back in working order though. If you haven't discarded the old clutch already, that would make for a good video. I'd like to see the inner workings of it but don't have an old one to try.

@@dubmob151 certainly replacement parts. Belts and the white wheel as well as the bearings are the main wear points. But after the machine being so old, it may sometimes be worth it to just replace the whole clutch

A lot went wrong in this video 😅

The brushroll housing can be tricky to take off. Try to slowly push off each corner or try putting something like a flatbread screwdriver between the gray and yellow pieces on the front. It should come off

THey are slightly different. The dc14 was probably the best because it has better cyclones than the dc07. The dc33 was made out of the cheapest materials and has less power. But they are all good

They have recently gone up in price. At the time of filming this they were $28. If you want to save some money you can get a refurbished one on eBay for around the $35 mark. Just make sure to not buy used. Refurbished or new only. The prices have gone up due to Dyson discontinuing them I believe. They have been out of stock for a while now.

@@dubmob151 yes! The main thing that wears out is the belts and the white wheel. The belts can be replaced but it takes skill. And the white wheel is not possible to replace with ease. So given the age of the clutch, it’s best to go ahead and replace the whole thing

Well this was quite a rude comment. If you decide to open your eyes a little bit and read the title, it said how to replace the clutch. Not how to replace clutch belts. So for you to say that I didn’t do what I was supposed to do is soooooo far from the truth. You didn’t do what you were suppose to do and read the damn title. I’m sorry you waited 2 weeks on belts but you literally watched a video on how to replace a clutch and got mad at me for not showing how to replace belts. I even said at the beginning of the video I would be replacing the clutch and even showed the new clutch I would be replacing it with. I put a lot of hard work into my videos so for you to discredit me is very wrong and childish. Now if you want some real advice, I would say replace the whole clutch. These machines are older the the white wheel I showed in the video wears out. And replacing individual belts is not an easy job by any stretch of the imagination. So if you decide to actually have some common sense and read the title and listen to what I said at the beginning of the video, you will realize that this is not the video for you. And I am very aware that I am writing this reply with an attitude and tone. Because if you want to say that I am useless because you didn’t read, that is not my problem. Doesn’t matter how many hate comments I get, all it will do is push me into the algorithm more and pay me.

There are 2 tabs. One at the top. And the other one you need to go under the machine and get it from below. It can be tricky. But it will come off. Keep trying , just make sure to not break it

Place a flat head screwdriver between the yellow and gray plates on top of the housing. Like when the machine is sitting straight up you’ll see the two prices meet on top. Use a flat head screwdriver to stick it in there any gently pry it apart on both sides. Sometimes getting those two catches off are hard, to trying from the top usually always works

These dysons will last a very long time. And since you replaced your filters and your clutch, you’re good for many more years.

@@DillonCleans the thing is, you show every step! I would watch, go do it, watch again for the next step. The other ones I saw, they would jump from step one to step three assuming you knew step two. Well, I didn't know step two so they were useless to me. Being 71 years old, I love a challenge with the proper help.

It is indeed possible to replace only the belts, however it isn’t an easy job. I personally would not recommend doing it unless you are very mechanically inclined or like challenges. As for the brushroll not spinning, it’s important to find out why. If it doesn’t spin at all, it’s likely a problem with the brushroll or a broken belt. So find out what condition the belts are in, then we can find out the solution to your problem.

@@eileenkelly6371 okay. That’s a good start. There’s still a chance it could be slightly stretched. But as long as its still making good contact and is somewhat tight, it wouldn’t cause the roller to completely stop

@@DillonCleans I bought the whole clutch. Honestly just hate wasting plastic and hurting the earth but I got whole thing. In taking it out, I saw the wear and tear on the white ring so glad I got it all. Will let you know if I’m successful! Thank you!

I ended up taking the clutch out again and putting it back in. I must have put it in slightly at an angle. A bit annoying, but you need the cover in order for it to work

Hey genius. I didn’t say to change both belts, I said you can change one of the belts. The other belt is not replaceable by a regular consumer as there are a lot of parts to it. And I did mention at 7:54 that it is worth it to replace the whole clutch because even if you replaced both belts, that white wheel inside is still worn down, which it shouldn’t be. Rude comments are never appreciated, but if you ever have a question, I’m more than happy to answer.

I actually wouldn’t consider this a difficult vacuum to work on. It’s fairly straightforward. But it’s certainly more difficult than a cheap bissell mainly because cost of manufacturing and quality.
