“To make it hard for the next guy to move” 😂😂 that’s my motto. When I’m dead and gone, I want the next young guy to have a hard time as well getting it out 😂😂.

Great video. Very informative. Thanks for making it.

Calvin really doesn't want to be able to see in the future. Hitting hardened steel against hardened steel, running a reciprocating saw through steel screws and timber, and running a circular saw with nothing but 'safety squints' is a good way to seriously injure or lose an eye.

Omg thought the same thing. Especially cutting through screws. That alone makes me paranoid enough to leather up my arms and wear my best gloves!
@mikekim5135

But he was squinting. Surely, his eyelashes would protect his eyeballs from projectile pieces of metal and wood. Obviously, I'm joking. Yes. Most definitely, he should be wearing eye protection. Interesting that he knew to wear hearing protection.

Is it weird that I'm more worried about him hitting hardened steel against hardened steel (hammering his hammer as a wedge).

This is not a crawlspace, it is a basement with living space.

Do i need to be worried about the house collapsing for the hour or so there's a missing floor joist? I need to remove and replace 4 and was going to do it one at a time.

I’ve got a 16ft span that has true 2x8s but 10 have rotted obviously I can’t put 2x8s back in. What type of wood should I use and can I just notch out the joist where it sits on the cinder block wall ?
@ProTradeCraft

you should hire a professional carpenter.

No need for any connectors into the subfloor to replace the (now) missing nails? How many joists in a row can I get away with doing this to using only adhesive?

would it be safe to permanently remove the ceiling joists without ruining the structure of the house? Asking because I want to increase the height of my basement so I can practice golf such as my driver and woods without damaging my house.

I probably wouldn't have published the video if he got blinded. Actually, I probably wouldn't have finished shooting if he got blinded because I would have driven him to the hospital!

Sometimes it's not necessary. At work, we are often required to wear safety glasses when don't really need them. HSE is absolutely inadequate nowadays... And then it just puts strain on our eyes, damaging our vision. But when you are cutting something, it's better to have the glasses... Common sense, yep.
@PhilThurston64

This assumes you have a "modern" floor joist to replace... not 100-year-old solid 8" x 5" joists like me :(

sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, you're going to have TWO FEET with no plywood screwed in from above....../ Why not just set a new joist butting the old, on one side or both.
@danielmorrison-editor
@danielmorrison-editor 6 лет назад
No screws, correct, but plenty of construction adhesive. In this instance, the home owners have chemicle sensitivity, so all of the charred stuff had to be removed.

I will forward your request to the Remodeler, but don't hold your breath-- they do mostly deep energy efficiency retrofits and new construction, this was a house they built, that then had a fire, so they fixed it.
