Thanks man, I'm currently doing this myself and kinda figured this was the way, but I just wanted to see someone else doing it. Took 3 days of video sifting to find this. Thanks a million 😊

Did this and it refroze after a couple years, even with the extended heater piece. Ultimate fix for me is found in a video titled "Ice under Deli Drawer in GE Profile French Door Refrigerator, my permanent solution!" which required that I cut open the back of the fridge and reroute the condenser tube outside of the back of my fridge, as the speculation is that the condenser tube is insulated and will keep freezing due to being next to the freezer.

Great video! I wish i saw this 2 months ago, because my GE profile is building up ice again. Now i know what to do! Thanks 1000%

Thank you, glad I can help. From time to time my fridge builds ice. Every time, it was either from someone leaving an open container of a drink in the fridge, or from someone blocking the vent in the back of the freezer. As soon as I remove the open drink or unblock the vent, the fridge fixes itself and goes back to normal operation. Check the freezer vent, and check for open liquids too. Good luck!

Craig Tomlin Hey just saw your video , thanks for uploading . I’m seeming to have the same problem , ice keep building up . I did the copper wire hack to no luck, making me think it’s either the thermostat or heater core. Have you tried to diagnose your problem prior to ordering all those parts ? And have you have any more issues since replacing them? Thanks again

Way , way, way too complicated for me, but congrats to Craig for his diligence in getting his fridge up to perfect running order!

Have had most not all parts replaced and still water where you show it. 3 times technicians have come out. A few days ago someone came and replaced a few parts that had been replaced 2 months before. Over the last few days there is still water in the bottom of the refrigerator section. After watching this video I checked the 3 things you mentioned: ice maker secure, open liquid, and energy saver. Last night I turned off energy saver and today there is no more water. I have also turned off water to the ice maker. In a few days I will turn the water back on and see what happens.

Sorry to hear that! Yes, many times it's something simple like frozen foods blocking the vents down in the drawer. Everytime I hear fan noise I go down there and sure enough, my wife has placed food over the vents. Removing the blockage typically corrects fan noise in a day. The water at the bottom is often caused by the ice completely blocking the fan and heating coil and allowing the ice buildup. Hopefully your corrective measures will help get the fridge back to its normal operation soon! Keep us posted!

@@CraigTomlin hi , my question is where can I get part # WR02X12603?
@lindajostalker8892

Opps I forgot to ask, is there a test for the fan behind the panel? I’ve had ice build up on the fan and now I don’t think it is working. Thank you.

@@lindajostalker8892 Hmmm, that I do not know. If you are concerned about it you could try looking at youtube videos for how to replace the fan. I'm sorry I can't help more but that part was not one I had to replace.

The copper wire does a better job because it will retain heat better after the unit comes out of defrost and starts to cool. The other problem for the drain is the stupid latex duck bill drain line down by the compressor. The lips stick together because of the heat down there and consequently will not allow the water to drain into the pan, but will back up and cause water to drain into the floor of the fresh food section . Just cut the duck bill back about 1/8” so they won’t stick together. In the “old days” they didn’t have the duck bill, just a straight open drain line. Because of all the environmental laws with electrical usage they added that. Latex and heat, a bad idea.

Hi Joseph, thanks for your reply. I have to disagree about the copper wire doing a better job. As I mentioned in the beginning of the video it was the copper wire that had caused the icing. The surface area of the clip drain evaporator is much greater than a wire, so it heats far more ice, helping to melt it. Since using the evaporator I've had no new icing problems. That's a good recommendation on the duck bill, I also cut out some of the duck bill which I agree helps drain the water. Thanks for the tip!
@josephfolsom2030
@josephfolsom2030 4 года назад
Craig Tomlin , Had the service tech that installed the copper wire also trim the duck bill or did you do that? If he didn’t trim the duck bill the copper wire wouldn’t have done anything by itself. The comparison of the copper wire vs. the aluminum maybe 6 of one and half a dozen of another except the copper has more density to retain heat.

@@CraigTomlin Have to respectfully disagree with your thoughts about the copper wire as well. You changed many variables so you really have no proof whether it was the copper wire, the heating element, the thermostat, the drains or a certain combination of any or all of those. I do really appreciate the thoroughness and detail of your video and thank you so much for making it!
@CraigTomlin
@CraigTomlin Год назад
@@S1avk0 Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Sorry to disagree with your disagreement. It's a scientific fact that there's a much larger surface area with the new clip drain evaporator to melt ice versus a small copper wire. So the clip drain evaporator is clearly superior to the copper wire in every way. As to the other parts, they were all working. Changing the other parts wasn't necessary, because they were working. However, as I explain in the video since I had the unit open I decided to replace all the other parts with new parts anyway. So it was absolutly the copper wire that was causing the issue. That said, it is important to remember that blocking the freezer vents with frozen food is ALSO a great way to freeze the system, so the copper wire can't take all the blame. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and enjoy your fridge.

@@CraigTomlin ahhh that's makes sense, I missed that part about those other items not being faulty. Thank you for your response 🙏. What are the freezer vents? I will watch again to see? Funny thing everything was so frozen I had a hard time getting the back panel off. Then it took hours of hot water via a baster to melt everything
