How To Replace a Hard Drive and Install Windows 10 On Your HP 

Thank you for the video, couple of points helped but the biggest was I didn't know to delete the partitions, it's now installing fine.

As a multi-decade Mac user, I was at a loss when a friend asked me to help replace a failed ssd drive and reload the OS on his HP laptop. This video was a huge help and kept me from wasting time trying to figure out everything on my own. Much appreciated!

Thank you for the helpful video. Is there an easy way to install a new hard drive by cloning the old hard drive? I would like to keep all of my old files without having to backup the old hard disk drive and restoring the contents to the new disk drive.

So Im getting the "blue screen of death". I did the diagnostic with the F12 button. The hatd drive failed. If I replace the hard drive will I lose all the data and files on it that were not backed up?

Okay, I get to 5:15 in the video where the partitions you said to delete are showing on my screen. I see five partitions, one for System, one for MSR (Reserved), one for Primary, one fo Recovery and the last one for OEM Reserved. I do as you say. I highlight each partition and then hit delete. However, in my case I get a new screen. Let's take my Drive 0 Partition 1/ Total Size 260.0 MB/ Free Space 0.0 MB / Type System as an example: If I highlight this partition 1 and then the delete button, some seconds lapse and finally a screen pops up with a Red X under the title of "Windows Setup" which says "We couldn't delete the selected partition [Error: 0x800701b1] There's an x box in the right hand top corner, or in the bottom right corner an OK button. I hit the OK button. The whole box disappears. And I am looking at those 5 partitions again. However, down below there is this new yield sign below the choices for Refresh, Delete, Format, New, Load Driver and Extend and this new line says "Windows can't be installed on Drive 0 partition 1. (Show Details) If I click on the "Show Details" I get a new smaller Windows Setup box again. This time it says: "Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space . Windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS. Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. The partition is an EFI system partition (ESP)" I hit the large OK button in this box and it disappears. So, I am back to seeing the big Windows Setup box which asks "Where do you want to install Windows?" and the five partitions below which I cannot delete. All five partitions, when I highlight them, tell me Windows can't be installed to them. In the bottom right hand corner is a NEXT button. If I hit that Next button, it does not click. And nothing happens. So, after explaining all this, is there another way around to get my new Windows 10 OS off my flash drive and into the hard drive? Or is there another way to delete these drive partitions? By the way, I did a RAM memory and Hard Drive check and both are fine. Thanks in advance. You are a great teacher.

Need to know if reinstalling windows 10 from a USB will wipe out my personal files and pictures if I do not have a backup. If so which option do I need to pick so this won’t happen. Also, what are the partitions in the video, can I not delete these. I have read elsewhere not to delete as it could delete data and personal files.

My HP pavilion came with a windows and the HDD is dead. I replace it with a new empty HDD. Can I simply go to Microsoft website and format a U-disk as a system drive with another PC or install win10 on the new HDD as D drive of another PC and then put it back to HP Pavilion?

I updated my hp laptop from a bootable USB drive and it worked ... But yesterday i was trying to use it to install a certain game then it certainly stopped responding... I gave it time and a message popped out saying my pc went into an error ...i let it restart automatically and it stucked for 5 hours ... then i tried to boot from booting from that usb again but i couldn't...it is just showing a windows logo .... So i seriously need immediate help ... And i have a question.... If i once booted using a usb or cd drive ....do i always have to start my pc with it on ?....because even if i do that it's just showing preparing automatic repair and stuck there for almost a day 😔

Thank you for the video. I followed all the directions and windows 10 booted up normally. Thanks be to God. However, I noticed that I am noticing a bunch of missing devices: SM Bus Controller, PCI Memory Controller, and PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller, etc... I tried to update and search updates and online using the trouble shoot tool, but it couldn't find any solutions. Any idea how to update these devices? Was it a problem in the download of windows? It didn't tell me there were driver or device issues during the download, so I am not sure

ok you installed windows 10 on the new hd. but what about the hp driver files? would the computer still work with out the hp drivers not on the HD? or will it, so you can then download the drivers from hp?

Egghead Fixers, I need help with my HP All In One Desktop. It is stuck in the dreaded "Preparing Automatic Repair." I followed yours and other RU-vid's videos on how to get out of it. I even tested my drive, it passes the tests, but when I got to the memory, it did not pass. Is that why I can't get to the part where I can go back to Factor reset? I did notice the day before my computer shut off that my D Drive was almost full but the C drive still had a lot of space. What do I have to do to get it running again? Do I need to install a new drive and put Windows 10 back on my computer? I am so confused, I am not techie at all. Thanks in advance

I found no link for trouble shooting windows installation fails on a new laptop hard drive. Here is what I have, replacing a hard drive in an HP laptop, attempted to install windows, first showed no hard drive. took it out, formatted NTFS, tried again to install windows. HP Declined GPT format so converted to mbr, still won't install. Even, tried to format during installation, when it would allow, and that failed. Now what? I replaced this drive and within a week, it failed, same as original drive. Friend has dropped it, corner is slightly cracked. Any suggestions? was a desktop support tech for many years so not a newby. Probably will be S.U.E. explain later. Mine fails at 5:10 in your video.

RE: 5:10 ... I was not able to delete all of the partitions. After I deleted everything I could, I still had 4 that would not go away so I just installed in the top one that said unallocated and left the others... hopefully that wont cause issues in the future.

I get to the Applicable Notices and license Terms Screen when installing from a USB creation tool, but cannot check the box next to “I accept the license terms.” This prevents me from going on to the next screen and installing Windows 10.
