How To Replace A Headlight Bulb On 2006-2013 Impala & 2014-2016 Impala Limited Chevrolet
It's a fairly simple process to replace a headlight bulb on the model years of the Chevrolet Impala and Impala limited listed above. It doesn't take very long either, as it's normally just a 5-10 minute job. I only replaced the low beam bulb in this video, but once you have the headlight housing removed (I show you how to do that in this video), you can also replace the high beam, turn signal, and sidemarker bulb lamps as well. The low beam replacement lamp required is a type H11, and I bought a Sylvania Silverstar bulb for my vehicle. The high beam requires an H9, the turn signal requires 3157NAK, and the sidemarker is a 194LL.

Thanks man, one thing to note is you should use a glove when handling the actual bulb, as hand oil can reduce the life of the bulb. cheers

Unfortunately, my dust cover didn't cooperate and 2 out of 3 tabs snapped, leaving me unable to remove the dust cover. I have a pair of light replacements on order anyway since the lens were excessively cloudy. There was no way the mother-in-law would have done this at her age. Great video and thanks for putting it up for us Stan.

Ok, first, awesome video. Told me everything I needed, tyvm for making this. Second, when the lights dust cover won't come off, here's what to do. Take a screwdriver with a large, flat head and put it on one of the cover fins near the base. Apply firm, constant pressure and see if the cover starts to turn. If you do that for about 30 seconds and it still won't budge, move on to part two. Keeping the screwdriver head in the same place, start tapping on the base of the screwdriver with a rubber mallet. Don't hit it very hard, just a couple of inches is all you need to swing it. Keep doing that and it will eventually break free so you can turn it. And that's all there is to it.

Don't forget to wipe bulb clean of skin oils if you touch the glass part.

In my hurry to make this video, I didn't do that. I keep plastic gloves/sandwich bag in my car just for the purpose of holding onto the bulb so that no skin oils or salts get on the bulb. Those will decrease the life of the bulb.

Can never seem to get the lights aligned right on this damn car. And low and behold this must be why. Can't think of why they would want us to take the whole light out and throw off alignment just for a bulb. And theres 4 to burn out...better hope for the inner two. x)

Thank you so much for this one, mate! The manual I had for what you needed to unscrew first to get the assembly out didn't specify the location, so I ended up turning the aiming screw for about a minute before I realised I wasn't getting anywhere. You got it done quick and painless, though, and I can't thank you enough, hahaha. I ended up snapping one of the ridges for the dust cover trying to unscrew it, but when I did finally get it open (praise the WD-40), I found out the cover had been cemented in place! After replacing the bulb, I got everything set back in place, and powered her on to see the shiny new light pointing almost straight at the ground, so I'm gonna need to adjust that back. Again, thank you! You've helped me more than I can say!

Good for you for taking on this task! DON’T TOUCH THE GLASS ON THE NEW BULB. “If you touch the bulb with your fingers, the salts and oils from your skin will damage the bulb and cause the heat to concentrate. This can significantly reduce the life of the bulb or even worse cause it to shatter.”

If your current lightbulbs are still working, I'd say just get a replacement without the lightbulbs and put the current ones in it.

Hey I was wondering what that that piece is called where the headlights sit on . I crashed the front of my impala but got everything replaced besides the plastic pieces that cover the radiator and around the hood latch but I’ don’t know what it’s called and couldn’t find it

Not exactly sure, but there is a headlight mounting panel, a fascia, and a grill assembly that might be part of what you need.

By the way do not touch the the clear part of the new bulb because it will burn out quicker Because you have put skin oils on it causing hotspots on the bulb. My own experience.

You're not supposed to touch the bulb with your bare hands though, use a rag or latex gloves because the oils on your skin will cause bulbs to burn out and fail

That is very true. I got in a hurry making this video and messed that part up. I now keep some spare bulbs in the glove compartment along with a ziploc bag to use to put my hand in to handle the bulbs.

Yes, and Jesus never lies...I should have been more careful! The oil on our skin does nothing good for bulbs. Use plastic gloves or clean gloves of some kind when changing these bulbs.

Yeah, you are definitely right about that. I didn't do that in this video, even though now I always carry something in my glove compartment to safely handle the bulb with. It will definitely decrease the life of the bulb if you get the salts and oils from your skin on it by touching the glass.

I have honestly never used it myself, but from what I understand, it's to be placed on the contacts of the bulb and socket and around the edge of where the seals are to create a watertight seal to prevent corrosion. It's silicone based and doesn't conduct electricity.

Yes, I did. I was careless doing that, and didn't take the time to get a plastic glove or sandwich bag to hold the bub while putting it in. I always keep something like that in the car now just for changing a bulb.

This was a most helpful video. The dust cover tabs snapped off when I tried to twist it off. There was some kind of glue lining the inside and they are pushing being 10 years old.

One note worth making. DO NOT touch the glass of the bulb as oil from the skin will make a hot spot which will result in a shorter bulb life. Use gloves are shield the bulb from your fingers.

Nice Video but I would like to add to never touch the Bulb if you can help it . This can significantly reduce the life of the bulb or even worse cause it to shatter. For this reason most halogen capsule bulbs that you buy will be sealed in plastic inside the box.

It is advisable that you do not touch the light bulb with your bare fingers or hands as you the oils from your skin can cause the light bulb to fail prematurely.
